Official UC Berkeley 2015 Transfer Thread

These posts make me so sad. You really have no idea what it is like to be in someone else’s shoes. It’s normal to have feelings, but you also need to assess yourself and why you have so much negative energy about people you don’t know.

Also, I have received merit scholarships from multiple sources because I knew I had to find a way to fund my education without any family support. These scholarships were not because of my need but because of my passion for helping others and leading in my community. So check yourself.

@MaMoi77 my appeal was accepted a couple weeks ago into UCSD. I got into Cal with a 3.27 GPA and was awarded $84,000 in grants/scholarships, and an IPad from Cal and the alumni association. My GPA is lower than other applicants, but I’m a published medicinal chemistry researcher, so my education is already helping people. I also took over 20 semester units for 3 of my community college semester so seeing a B or two on my transcripts wasn’t a big surprise. A 4.0 is a note worthy achievement, but it wasn’t my goal. I just want to be good at what I do. I think my scholarship from Cal was like $25,000. It was a lot of work to earn it, and well deserved I believe. I didn’t get anywhere near that kind of funding from any of the other UC campuses. I will be receiving free tuition and around $10,000/year in grants at UCSD.

@onmyway @MaMoi77 distinguished between merit scholarships and need based financial aid, so his comments were not really directed at people like you. I agree that it would be kind of annoying to hear people bragging about getting financial aid when they only got it because of their situation. That’s great for them, but it’s not really anything to brag about. What would be even more annoying is hearing people complain about not having full cost covered, when they are going to college for a fraction of the price most students in this country pay. Again, your merit scholarships don’t fall into any of these categories because you earned them, and congratulations on that.

@IWannaMakeDrugs so now I finally understand the real reason for your handle.

Just got the regents scholarship! Anyone else get one??

Wow. Today? Congrats @claferia!

@lindyk8 No, on Friday! I thought they had already given them out, so I wasn’t expecting it at all!

@Claferia congrats! can you share your stats and possibly give some insight into what you wrote about in your personal essays? I really want to get the regents scholarship but I have no idea what they’re looking for.

Hi, I am a student who is accepted to Berkeley as a transfer. I was wondering if anyone, who is also accepted to Berkeley, is having trouble contacting his or her adviser. I am trying my best to contact my adviser but it seems like there is no way. I called the admissions office and the lady told me that there is nothing that the admissions office could do. She just told me to wait but I have sent him several emails for the last three weeks and no replies. And I tried to call him but he has a voicemail that asks students to email him… And the deadline for SIR submission is coming up. Is anyone in the same situation?

Is this Quincy Jones?

Actually yeah! My adviser is Mr. Quincy Jones

@lindyk8 Do you know anything about what happened to him?

They seemed to throw everyone at the guy. My daughter kept waiting and waiting and finally emailed him direct. It been funneled to him before. He did answer after that. But yeah, it seems like he’s handling everyone.

What is your question? If it’s about your major, each major has an undergrad advisor. Try that option.

My appeal was rejected to both UCB & UCLA T_T D;

@otoribashi I posted my stats and some of my essay topics on this thread on April 18, post #248. I don’t want to clutter the forum by reposting, so feel free to look it up and ask me any questions that you might have.

@Claferla thanks! I looked it up, congrats!

Hey guys, so I requested approval for taking a summer course at my CCC from my admissions advisor(Quincy Jones). I have yet to receive an email back from him and I know that the deadline to request taking a summer course is June 1st. Since I tried contacting him before the deadline, do you think it’ll be a problem to get approval?

I would just sign up for the course, and send a message letting him know. Put URGENT in the heading.

Has anyone not yet received their appeal decision?

Are we able to submit our statement of legal residence tomorrow? I’m having trouble filling it out because my situation is quite odd. I was born and raised in California but during my second semester of freshman year, we were in a certain situation that caused my brothers and I, for our safety, to be sent to live with my aunt in Arkansas for about 10 months. My mother was still living in California and we were only sent to live with my aunt because my mother had to move to another city in California and get everything situated before we went back with her. We got back at the beginning of the second semester of my sophomore year and I continued to attend a California high school until I graduated, though I moved once more within the state to a different high school. In the SLR it asks what state I consider my permanent home so I’m putting yes and my current age as the time that I have considered it my home. It then asks if I’m a California resident, I’m planning to put yes, and then it asks for how long, I am tempted to put “since birth” but it says “physical presence” and since I was in a different state for almost a year, I’m not sure if I’m able to. I don’t want them to think I’m lying and deny my acceptance since it says I attended an out of state high school in my high school transcripts. Also, I put on my application that I attended a California high school for three years, which is true because I finished the first semester my freshman year of high school here and continued to be in California my second semester of sophomore year until graduation. I’m not sure if that works? I don’t know what to put since I don’t want to put the wrong thing and have to pay nonresident tuition even though I’ve lived here for nearly my whole life and my mother has lived here for much longer than that continuously. Anyone know what I should do?
