Official UC Berkeley 2015 Transfer Thread

@ocnative Someone is on defense when they’re playing sportsball.

@lindyk8 Yes! I’m a Psych major. Is your daughter leaning toward UCLA now?

@woukdyoukindly, oh no, she wants berkeley. this is trivial in the scope of things. She’s media studies. Trying to get into a psych class tomorrow, actually.

So I still haven’t heard back from my admissions officer and it’s been five business days. Maybe you guys can give your input on my situation.

I submitted my SIR to UC Berkeley but I had already submitted a SIR to San Jose State University before learning of my admission to Cal. I will write to San Jose State University to rescind my admittance but it will take them about a week to process that. I intend on attending only UC Berkeley. I don’t want to rescind my SJSU admittance until I know my Cal admittance wont be revoked because of this situation, but I can’t wait much longer.

Anyone have any advice or was in a similar situation?

Thanks in advance guys.

Why would it be rescinded? They know nothing about CSUs if that’s what you’re referring to. As long as you have followed your provisional contract, you’re fine.

You should really sign up for CalSo as soon as possible to get classes.

You’re in berkeley. Ppl withdraw from backups all the time. They’re not connected.

To give everyone an update on CalSo. My daughter got into all the classes she wanted, so just one more for phase 2.
This day has been great (except for the third roommate who stole her $250 glasses when she went to the bathroom with the second roommate, and then split – don’t forget renter’s insurance in the fall!)

Anyhow, that aside, everyone super super friendly, a preso, a lot of stuff from L&S, then splitting off to your major groups. As she has media studies and it was a big group, the leader didn’t give them a set time to register for classes, and just said do it any time after it opens at 1. So my daughter went right away and was done by 1:03. She connected with a lot of ppl. Three others are in her media studies 10 and they already have a study group. Now she’s taking a tour.

The main day has been great all around. So no worries @wouldyoukindly!

For what it’s worth, while UCLA may be better at the event planning, my daughter felt the easy-going friendliness from students was way better at Berkeley. !! B-) @ocnative

Thanks @lindyk8! I just needed peace of mind.

Oh shoot. Do people who attend CalSo get to register for classes earlier than those who don’t?

Yeah, CalSo is the registration portal. So, yeah, some might be closed by the time you apply - although they do hold seats for transfers into their majors. But they say to Waitlist those as soon as possible.

The tour took my daughter on top of the campanile! Yay!

All you guys who go to CalSo should definitely take the tour! I went to berkeley and didn’t even know this stuff:

There are underground tunnels that connect to all the libraries. You walk through it to all the libraries.

Bancroft library is only open to graduate students or those with passes and has a book bound in human flesh.

Because of the protests back in the '60s (?) when protesters chained the doors closed to the administration building and everyone inside was stuck there for like two days, they removed all door handles on the left side of every building, so it would never happen again.

What they didn’t tell her and I will relate:
Sather Gate has a plague that says erected by Jane Sather. She’s was an old lady with tons of money. On either side of the gate they had reliefs of naked people. The naked man was above the erected by Jane Sather plaque. She had a fit and they removed the naked people for years and years. Finally put them back up but it’s either women on both sides, or a woman on the Jane side.

Don’t forget to check out the Littlest Bear on the balcony of South Hall, the oldest building on campus.

@lindyk8 RIP your daughter’s sunglasses. What a terrible person.

I had a lot of fun at CalSO. Mostly because of all of the people I met. One of them was this adorable girl who asked someone if they knew where a certain building was and they said “you have a map” and walked away. Luckily I never crossed paths with this guy or the sunglass thief. I’m excited for school to start! :x

@wouldyoukindly, you were there today? My daughter LOVED it. She feels the same. Too bad about the few jerks.

@lindyk8 glad to hear she had a good time after a rough start yesterday!! I feel like its a hit or miss kind of thing with your experience at orientation.

@fncrane I think I asked you but did you SIR anywhere in case, you know… :frowning:

Another fun fact my daughter told me (I love it!): the Natural Sciences building (I think that’s the name) is the largest campus building west of the mississippi, so Stanford made a bigger building, so then UC added on to theirs - so it’s still the biggest!

@lindyk8 nah I only applied to UCLA. If things don’t work out I’ll just stay at UCI and try to finish early.

Oh that’s right, you’re at UCI. Now I remember.

I took my foreign language in cc and so what’s printed on my high school transcript doesn’t matter and they just want proof that I graduated, right? Also I put 08/2009 - 06-2013 for the dates but apparently I was apart of the district/school in 12/2008, should I email my advisor about this?

First time seeing my final transcript and my hs GPA was extremely low (I more than doubled it in cc lol) and I’ve read on here that it doesn’t affect anything but I wanna double check

.

Don’t worry about the grades. Are you an international or moved? That may be why they want to see it.

Huh, I thought it was standard protocol for Berkeley to receive both hs and college transcripts…? And I’ve lived in CA my whole life
