Official UChicago 2017 RD Thread

^So did you apply to UChacigo

I sure did! :D

Had my interview a while ago. :3

A warm hearted good luck from an EA applicant :slight_smile: Hope to see you guys all in Chicago in October or September (Whenever the school begins :P)

Alexisss u r in better position than where I’m in… I was planning to apply 15, but my school counselor was very persistent in decreasing the number of university of maximum 10. And I could apply to only 5 dream/reach schools, 2 match and 3 safeties. It was very unfortunate since I had to trash like 7 essays for schools I’ve planned to apply and that he was the only counselor out of 3 who set a strict limit on the number of application. Trashing 7 sets of essays and watching my friends applying to 18, 20 universities were brutal for me lol

I had my interview a few days ago. It was pretty chill. It was more informative than evaluative. Is that the way it’s supposed to be? I really liked my interview. She was very friendly. She basically negated the “nerdy” stereotype that U-chicag tends to have. It was a bit surprising.

@hate
That sucks. T_T I think I made a mistake in applying to all reaches, though. Lolololo
I can’t believe your gc placed a limit. I’ve never heard of that.
:O

@alexissss

Some schools, especially private schools, do that to ease up the competition within the school i heard.

Ohhh, I see.

@hate

same here. i am limited to apply for only 10 schools (i’m an international applicant) and ended up only applying for 6 US colleges, in which only 3 of them are reaches :(

i go to a small private catholic school.
i applied to 23. i know, its nothing to be proud of, quite insane, rather.
if my counselor hindered me in any way i would F L I P, that’s not cool.
about half of the schools i applied to are total reaches, but i already have a full ride at a safety school under my belt, so any reach acceptances are a pleasant surprise.

@artobsessed, I’m in a similar place… applied to 20, including a couple of UCs and way too many reaches, and also have a safety with a pretty big scholarship waiting if I need it. My problem is that I’m way too optimistic and could honestly picture myself loving every single school I applied to. I just wish I’d been able to narrow it down. It gets sort of awkward when people ask… lol.

@Canadian112… Are you on any kind of scholarship? Another Canadian applicant here (RD) but no way to go without big help!

Same situation here. I’m really worried about not getting aid because, though my family’s income is below 65000 (maybe I could qualify for Odyssey), we own our house, our business and another piece of real estate (which we’re renting out to make ends meet). Let’s just say that we were better off before and then our situation changed.
Based on financial aid calculators, that real estate cheats us out of tons of aid and we might be forced to pay 65% of our income should I get into Harvard/Yale/UPenn/Columbia (and even more at UChicago) :frowning:
So it looks like I will be staying in Canada.

The models they use may make things less dire than you think, @Ragdolls. Harvard doesn’t count home value and Princeton, Yale, and, I believe, Chicago, caps it at something like 1.5x annual income. I THINK that’s right. Of course, I don’t know what they do about businesses…

^
Thank you for trying to cheer me up :slight_smile:
I will remain hopeful because I haven’t recieved any news as of yet, so maybe I’m just ahead of myself.
We’ll just have to wait another month and a half

I took some bad advice on the fafsa and accidentally included my parents retirement accounts in “Value of Parent’s Current Investments”… which added hundreds of thousands of dollars. I have since changed it, however, I hope they haven’t calculated it already so that they have time to readjust, otherwise there is pretty much no way I can go there :/

@ragdolls, I remember my mom saying there was a cap for Brown as well. I don’t think they can possibly expect you to sell a house to pay for college. I think your income is low enough that you should be okay. Plus, you may be able to appeal a finaid decision.

Happy Chinese New Year guys :smiley:
Wish you receive the decision/offer you want this year :slight_smile:
*sent email to Brown about my Jan SAT and they never replied…

^
我也祝你新年快乐!
Sorry, I rarely get to practice my mandarin outside of class :slight_smile:
Translation: I wish you a happy new year as well :D
