lots of last years’ acceptances were on friday, the 24th so i’m thinking acceptances (or at least people with tag, if they release most of those first) will hear back this year on friday, the 22nd. that’s just my guess, though. i’d rather hear back on the 15th of course. this wait is seriously a killer LOL
@100789 No if you look at assist.org it says that you can get accepted without completing all the major pre-reqs which basically means that it is not impacted
@dledesma46 Okay, I get you. That’s interesting, though. I thought UCI would be impacted for psych since all I hear is about how UCI is one of the top 3 UCs for psych following UCLA and Berk.
I was told that Psych and Psych/Social Behavior were both impacted majors for UCI. I confirmed this twice with the UCI rep that comes to my CC’s campus every month or so. She told me that the gpa requirements, while it’s 2.4 min to apply to a UC, the actual minimums were being raised for Fall 2016 due to the sheer number of applicants. They also look at essay/personal statement as a way to further eliminate applicants.
I actually have another appt with the UCI rep today - so I’ll confirm everything again and get back to y’all.
Does anyone know whether it’s difficult to switch majors at UCI? I got in as a PSB major with regents a month ago and I was considering a B.S. such as Public Health Sciences or neurobio?
I’m a pre-med student so I was wondering as I am taking my core science classes whether I could get into a B.S. program. Any advice appreciated.
Should I call admissions? I feel like this is something a uci student would know because I am sure it’s a mess in admissions right now
@Eterion Sounds good. I would assume UCI would be impacted for psych, so I was surprised when @dledesma46 said that it wasn’t.
@grimmghost You can submit a change of major request in your admission portal, PHS would be your best bet especially if you are premed, since a lot of the major requirements correlate with medical school prerequisites. Calling admissions would be in your best interest about this. You can also send them a message through your portal. From past experiences, they are very prompt at responding. I do not not know the turnout rate for major change requests, hopefully someone else has more experience on that. Hope that helped a little.
That’s what I was thinking, @Giraffe347 Thank you. Would they most likely just update my provisional contract for admission and have me do classes x, y, and z to stay in the major they give me? Because with my classes as of now I only have pre-reqs done for PSB, not PHS.
@grimmghost I think that they would accept you into the pre PHS major and once the prerequisites are completed, you will be admitted to the PHS major. Also, it depends if the major is impacted or not. I know that the main prerequisite courses include Chem series (1A-1B) and Bio Series (1-3) and there are additionally approved courses as well. It is really hard to say what exactly will happen or how admissions will deal with it.
Do you happen to know how soon I would have to fill out a major request? Is this something I would have to do before an SIR?
Sorry for the spam @Giraffe347 haha
@grimmghost No worries. I honestly do not know. I have not received any decision from UCI yet, so I still have the major request change option on the home page. I do not know if it is the same for admitted applicants. Best bet would be to email or contact admissions by phone.
@grimmghost Also found this link on change of major request: http://www.changeofmajor.uci.edu/CoM_HlthSci.html#policy
Hope it helps unless you have seen it already. Requirements for PHS major is at the bottom of the webpage. It also says that major request changes will only be reviewed during the summer before your junior year.
Alright all, spoke to rep today, Psych is indeed a impacted major at most, if not all of the UC campuses for Fall 2016. UCI I was told, received well over 18K applications, so wherever it is that you may have gotten information that it isn’t impacted - probably does not apply to UCI, considering my source actually works in UCI’s admissions office.
Regardless, hope to hear the results soon! =)
admitted today into public health sciences major! i tagged UCI and will be finishing major requirements this semester!
Just got accepted for CGS right now
