I only know of 1 person who was accepted into the Paul Merage School of Business.
I went all-in with this major, which is seriously competitive. Only 900/22,000 applicants are being accepted this year. I didn’t find out until fall how competitive it was. I spoke to the UCI outreach specialists and they told me that their average GPA for acceptance was 3.98… I was not too thrilled when I found out.
They told me to apply anyways because they look at circumstances too. But just in case I don’t get accepted, (because we became homeless at the time) to choose an alternative major. So I chose Social Ecology: Criminalogy/Law and Policy.
My back story is that I am a former foster youth. Single parent student with 100% custody. Decided to go to school when I had a baby. GED.
My stats:
Major: Business Admin
GPA: 3.47
IGETC: Complete
Transfer requirements to complete: Calculus 2, in progress currently.
Extra Curricular Activities: 20+ years of work experience. 2 consecutive years as CARE President, sat for 3 years on the board of the OCC children’s center advisory committee, won over 30 scholarships from environmental essays to parent of the year (twice) in the last 4 years of attending Community College. I implemented a program to help manage volunteers for an annual Science Night we host and then I help manage over 135 volunteers for the event.

@ lenocturne Could you tell me about the prerequisites of CS? As I know that we need to finish math 180 and math 185, two computer course (one of the computer course must be OO language ). Those prerequisites must finish before we file Tag application. And I right?
Based on what has been reported so far the GPAs have ranged from 4.0 - 3.5
There were a chunk of 3.9+ GPAs that did not have tag that were admitted
except for a few, virtually all of the GPAs 3.8 and below have been TAG.
This has been a high GPA and TAG admission burst, stay tuned for the rest.
Oh and if you are high GPA and or TAG don’t worry, plenty were still admitted with the rest of the transfers last year
Admissions came through on Friday the 24th for last year. I see one here on the 25th that says the notification came at like 3:30 AM on Saturday, a few others for the 25th, so who knows maybe it’s automated and there is some Windows 95 computer in admissions sending out emails. Funny last year everyone noticed that TAG got notified first, and everyone was just as worried about the same issues here.
@BackNSchool83 Funny, I just read that thread. Well, at least I have a slight chance at Business Administrations–if I appeal. Hopefully that won’t be the case. I think I did a good job on arguing my case in my personal statement. Who knows?!!
@Eterion Unfortunately I can’t make it since we just visited the campus last week (its a 3hr drive from me), but you will fall in love with it. Lovely area and campus.
Is there any chance of UCI ,or any school for that matter, to allow me to retake a course in the summer if i explain my situation? or am i screwed? any insight on this would be great ty.
Hi, is TAG eligible for the alternate major?
and is it okay when your GPA drops below the required 3.4 for TAG after fall quarter but get it up by spring?
