Official UCI Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

Oh yea I got the grade update message - I think all transfers have to fill out the supplementary application/update their Fall semester grades. But what was odd was a separate email from UC that requested I scan ALL my college transcripts and send it within 4 days.

@Eterion I heard that they choose a small group of people at random and audit them. I don’t think it means anything,. UCD did the same thing to one of my friends.

I got that email saying I had 5 days to send scans of my unofficial transcripts from every college I ever attended, plus it was on a Thursday I was notified so I didn’t know if the weekend counted or not. That was not as easy as it would seem since I couldn’t access those records with 2 of the previous colleges, they wont let you have an online account unless you are enrolled, which leaves you the only option of ordering transcripts. Thankfully I had ordered transcripts in the past and had them, scanned those, and the UCI admissions said that was fine. While they may have meant scanning some print out from your academic history online, sending scans of official transcripts is ok as they are then unofficial. So yep I got that too, I figured it was because in total I’ve attended 5 community colleges since 2000. That means when some of you were in pre school I was dropping out of college for the first time, crazy world huh lol. Anyways congrats to the one person I noticed being admitted tonight, you are a bad ass and have a high GPA.

Also, I know everyone is all excited, nervous, on edge, etc, but please be cautious about how you post your comments on here. I notice people saying “I got in !!!” small print “a week ago” lol or assuming that a batch of decisions are coming out because you can’t log onto your portal, lots of people can’t log onto their portal periodically for different reasons, lets not jump to conclusions. After that comment everyone IS checking their portal every 5 minutes over nothing. Love you guys, but please just calm your tits cause it raises my hopes all dramatically for no reason. IF you are admitted, we are all excited for you and happy for you. Please come on and provide your stats meaning your GPA, your major, and if you were TAG or not, and your admission date/time, just include that info with your commentary about how happy you are.

Earlier there was this one post where someone was saying they got in, added a gpa and their major and left it at that. We asked if the person was tag and when they were admitted, and the reply to BOTH those questions was that they did tag. So again we ask, when were you admitted, finally get a response that the person was admitted last Friday when everyone else was. Please, slow down, before you post stuff like that and provide the information needed for anyone to read your post and understand your stats, your admission date, and then anything else you might want to add. Its not like there are rules here, but I think it’s considerate if you try to include information like this when posting stats and saying stuff like you got admitted. We are all keeping our eye on the thread for when the next batch happens.

@BackNSchool83 - what is your profile picture from now? I was getting used to Allstate guy! And yes, I got that email too… on a Thursday, 5 day window. Same deal with you - multiple colleges back in pre-facebook era (lol) - dropped out to join the Navy for a decade.

My college has a weird unofficial transcript format - short of taking a picture with my cellphone, it was going to be hard to generate a unofficial transcript because of the “frames”. I ended up copy and pasting the entire frames spreadout onto a word document and sent them that.

I’m sticking with Allstate till I find out from UCI, good call, tommy lee jones avatar can wait till I apply to grad school.

I also got the request for transcript copies, and attended 2 colleges from 2001 to 2008.

Due to problems with depression and financial struggles, I had about 200 units attempted ( most Ws) with over 60 completed and a 1.75 gpa. I ended up opening a reptile store that now has 5 full time employees and over $500k in annual revenue. But I decided I wasnt intellectually fulfilled and wanted to go back to school. I took 10 units last summer, 21 units last fall, 3 over winter (study abroad in Costa rica) and I’m taking 22 now. I got all As except for a B in Calc 3. Luckily, my old F grades were spread out perfectly to catch all of them with an academic renewal at each school, using all avaliable unit forgiveness. I currently have a total 3.45 gpa.

The sucky part is only UCs have my major, cognitive neuroscience, except for Cal State Fresno (wtf?). Plus my business is in OC so UCI is my best option with UCLA and UCSD as backups. (I’m hoping for UCSD for a phd program)

So if I don’t get in, I have no where to go for a year, since more CC units might start to look bad and I already have my pre reqs done. My GPA is on the low side, but I’m hoping being a successful business owner in my 30s with a clear determination will push me through. …

@CogSciRob - Prehistoric Pets!!! =P

If you have to travel away for school - you can always bring your business mail order? I think that’s how I got my Emperor Scorpion pet many many years ago =P

@Eterion , not prehistoric, reptile island in stanton. I have a 3000sq ft retail store, so it’s not very mobile.

Those of you who are admitted. What GPA do you have to maintain on your last semester? Is it certain number of Cs?

Oh. Well I’ve never been to either. Just heard of them. I did have a 8 inch emperor scorpion as a pet though a few years back. For some reason, my roommates freaked out when they found out I was keeping him as a pet so I had to let him go.

Best hopes for all of us to get in =)

Does anyone know if Emphasizing in Creative Writing as an English major is something anyone can do? Or is the program very hard to get into? I can barely find any information on this, and have only found one source saying only about half of the English majors who apply get in.

Any insight would be really useful.

@tomhee469 I have to maintain a 2.0 GPA in the last semester but maintain a 3.4 over all semesters so I don’t violate my TAG contract.

Hi guys I was admitted last Thursday as a Computer Science Major. I was wondering if UCI would have any problems with my dropping a communication class. The only reason I was taking it was for CSU, but since I am planning to attend UCI, I wouldn’t think they would have a problem with me dropping it. The only reason I am a little nervous is that I am a tag student, meaning that my admission in provisional at this point. Is anyone in this situation right now? I messaged them through the portal but they have not contacted me back yet.

Here are my stats just if you are wondering:

Major: Computer Science
GPA: 3.47
IGETC: Done by this fall
TAG: yes
Prereqs: Done by this fall.

@jf45122 - congrats - call admissions office directly and ask. We’re not admission counselors here. If we were, I’d be able to log into the system and find out (instead of waiting in torturous anxiety) whether I got in or not. =P

@jf45122 I highly doubt they will care. I dropped a course within my major (not a pre-req) and they didn’t care. I didn’t tag, though. But I believe that since your course isn’t part of IGETC or a major pre-req, they won’t care. I would recommend calling them, but they’ll probably give you some spiel about not being able to answer hypotheticals.

Really, all of our acceptances are provisional until they receive our official transcripts and verify our courses.

Are you going to UCR ? What are your stats ?

The general thought on this thread is that UCI is releasing decisions on Friday, right? Isn’t that the same day UCSD, Davis, and UCLA are releasing?

Since last week on Thursday the TAG and honor students started receiving notices, I feel like they might start releasing them tomorrow possibly? Or at least starting tomorrow and lasting till next Friday. /Wishful thinking

@100789 yep. UCD is confirmed and UCSD and UCLA are assumed due to previous years. UCLA always releases theirs a week before Cal, and UCSD’s “second batch” should at least start this Friday and possibly continue until next week as well sense they roll theirs out.

@boxandwhiskers @Sanla124 Essentially, people who applied to UCI, Davis, UCLA, and UCSD and none others will learn their fate all on the same day? That’s super stressful. Good luck to whoever that may be.
