Official UCI Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

@uctransfer16 I have a chance of passing so I don’t want to report it just yet. If my other schools rescind me based off this one class, but UCI happens to be okay with it, then it would be a good backup?

@ryan0378 Of course. Best of luck with the class.

Waitlisted
UC to UC transfer (from ucsc)
Major : Computer Science
GPA and major GPA: 4.0
Pre reqs:done

Accepted: UCSD
Waitlisted:UCI
Rejected: UCB

How do you get denied with a 4.0…

That UC to UC transfer is no joke.

@StantheMarshDarsh Why are you leaving UCSC with a 4.0 in CS? just curious?

Still waiting, no news, This wait is literally starting to eat me up inside.

Yeah nothing yet so probably rejecting. Already beginning to think about my appeal.

Waitlisted.
Major: Mechanical Engineering
GPA: 3.2ish, 3.5 major

Im out of state, trying to transfer from Texas Tech. Got rejected from Davis because they wanted to focus on in-state transfers. I’ve attended both California and Texas community colleges though so maybe that factored in a little here.

@ryan0378 what date did you get rejected? If you don’t me asking, and did you appeal your waitlist?

@lugi350 Do you mean last year? No I never appealed.

@ryan0378 Yeah last year. People who got accepted last year from the waitlist was around the 3rd week of May, so I’m wondering when did waitlist people get rejected.

I just realized there’s 2 UCI fall 2015 transfer thread. Damn now I have to go through that.

I’ve been lurking around this thread, but I got a result today so I decided to share what happened to me with as much info as I can provide, hoping everyone can use this as some sort of reference

Waitlisted for UCI
Major: Computer Science
Alternative Major: Sociology
Overall GPA: 3.10 ish
Major GPA (math & cs): 3.25 ish
IGETC: completed

completed courses for this major: (letters in parenthesis is the grade I got)
calc 1 (B) & 2 © , java(A), intro to C++(A), C++2(B), discrete structures (counts as discrete math; got B), and boolean algebra (A).

currently taking:
data structures, python, linear algebra & diff eq, and software engineering.

Academic background:
I was a sociology major when I first started community college. I didn’t take school seriously, so I ended up getting lots of C on my general ed courses. I decided to change my major to CS around year and half ago and getting A and B on most of my courses since then (except Calc II, which screwed me over because I took it during summer).
Even then, the C from general ed classes are bringing my GPA down really badly so I’m really worried that I might not get in.,. I honestly would like some feedback on if I have a chance or not.

TL;DR:
did poorly on fist few years with wrong major. Changed major to CS and doing ok for most part now.

Schools I applied:
Only UCI

Plans if I get rejected:
take more classes at my community college (all physics, calc 3, computer architecture, etc) and apply to UCI again and apply to few different schools (UCD, UCSB, UCSC, CSUF, CalPoly Pomona would be my alternative choices if I were to apply again on next fall).

I wish everyone a best of luck!

Also, I chose my alternative major as sociology (big mistake! wish I put informatics, data science, etc instead), but does anyone know if I can change major from sociology to CS, even when it’s in a different department? and what are the likelihood of that happening?

So I scanned through the other transfer thread last year, and people were getting accepted from the 3rd week of May through the end of June, and nobody posted being rejected from the waitlist, so I’m really curious if we end up getting rejected(from the waitlist) when UCI will let us know.

@lugi350 Would like to know the amount that were accepted last year. Only stats I can find are 2012-2014. With 2013 being extremely low.

Waitlisted
Comp Sci at CC level
GPA: 3.20
Waitlisted: UCD

I had admission guaranteed at CSULB and admission pretty close to guaranteed at Cal Poly Pomona but I missed the application deadline because of a combination of not having the money when I filled the apptsoin October 1st and once I got out of the red, not remembering until December 5th. I never considered myself UC material but when I got notice of the extended period to apply, I had to give it try. When I researched UC Irvine, it became my dream school. Considering my blunder, I’m grateful to even be on a wait list for this fall anywhere. I have more classes I can take but with no financial aid, trying to survive the high rent of LA while going to school with limited income might cause me to give it up. This might me my last gasp being on these wait list. As much as I hate working in the hospitality industry pretty much being the verbal doormat of the richer and entitled, I can tolerate it so it might have to become a career.

@uctransfer16 so the stats you posted earlier was true? I thought you were being sarcastic lol. “2014 was 80% 2013 1% and 2012 100%.” wow what happened in 2013. For selfish reasons I did not notice a CS major getting accepted from the waitlist on the thread.

Other than 2013 those stats are pretty good for us. Either most of us get in together or we all cry on each other’s shoulders.

@lugi350 That’s what I read on the waitlist thread (We should make one as well.) I believe 2013 there was a lack of funding. UCD had the same numbers. Hopefully it doesn’t happen this year…

Basically I just wasn’t happy there. It had nothing to do with the school academically.
