Percussion Instructor (teach fundamental drumming technique to a middle schooler), Employed as an Orchestral Percussionist in my school’s holiday show.

AP Scholar with Distinction, Commended Student, U Rochester Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award, National Latin Exam Gold Medal, 3rd in County Calculus Competition

-Commonapp: Wrote about the various elements of my identity. Both teachers who read it thought it to be very unique and said it spoke honestly about me.
-Supplement: Why UChicago spoke a lot about the curriculum, Chicago, and the specific programs available. Optional essay was about a lot of things like favorite books, events, hobbies, etc. (some were pretty witty). I did the essay on living and dreaming; I think I took an interesting take on it.

-Didn’t read, but probably good. One from Chem teacher. The other from my Latin teacher (she knows me really well; also, she’s impressed with me because I’ve self-studied 3 years of Latin and currently have the highest grade in the class)
-Got a rec from the Columbia SHP director, but he writes one for any student that asks.

I think it went really well. He could tell that I knew a lot about the school and its specific programs. Other than talking about classes and academics, we talked about androids/iphones and his house in Maine.

Additional factors: I sent them an email a week ago with some updated accomplishments, including the part-time Percussion Instructor job and a few very small things.

Ethnicity: Middle-Eastern
Gender: XY
School: Average School in NJ

I was not expecting this at all. I got really lucky. Congrats to all the other acceptees. To those deferred/rejected, I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavours.
