Official University of Chicago 2020 Waitlisted Applicants Thread

Does anyone have any idea when the waitlist denials come out? I’ve committed to another school and I’m super happy with it, but I’d like to know if I’m definitely done with UChicago so I can pay some other deposits, instead of losing more money. Congrats to all the accepted! And to the ones still waiting, I’m sure you’ll all be extremely happy with another school as well; I am!

wait, i’m confused-- they explicitly said on the waitlist reply form to respond by may 15th, so i assumed they wouldn’t be making any decisions until then?? i replied earlier on, but was a bit late getting my updates in, so i guess i’m just kind of confused as to why chicago’s waitlist would be 100% done before the official reply-by date

@Swarleys you’re right, the form does say May 15 so weird…but yeah, last year they sent out a wave of denials on May 12th.

@pisquarius just out of curiosity, how much more money are they asking for? do you mind me asking which school?

@swarleys ,can you let me know where you find this that uchicago will be reply the waitlist by May 15?thank you.

@Hoped123 it doesn’t say that they will reply by May 15th, but when you go into your portal and click on the “waitlist reply form” it says “Please submit this form no later than May 15.” so there’s that. it just seems weird to me that they’d say that and then start pulling people off the waiting list in april idk

Thank you, hope we all have good news soon.

@jpa0115 They’re not asking for a lot; It’s a housing deposit of approx, $1200USD. And no, not at all! It’s McGill University!

@swarleys Although they say that they will take people from the waitlist only after May 2, U Chicago is known for completing most of it’s decisions by the first week of May; they don’t want to keep people waiting.
It’s a bit hard on us, those who haven’t been accepted yet and are still on the waiting list, but that’s the sad truth: most of the selections from the waiting list are already done by now. :((

@blazedragon ,so now the wsitlist is no chance to accept?those who still waitlist when will got the letter about reject?thanks.

@Hoped123 There can be few acceptances, but I guess it will be best to assume a rejection now. :-S The rejection letters should come in a few days, but all won’t be rejected, some will be place on the extended waitlist, from which they might take a few people during mid June, in case a few spots become vacant by then.

Thank you,Do you know how many waitlist this year and how high yied this year?

I think around 2000+ candidates were waitlisted, from which around 1000 accepted their place in the waitlist. No idea about the yield though. It must have been pretty high this year though, as very few acceptances were made from the waiting list this year.

@blazedragon how do you know these stats? there is no way that you can know how many people accepted their pllace on the waitlist or how many got off. the deadline is May 15. Until May 1, they need the responds from the ones that enrolled so they could see how many openings they have to offer. after that they start reviewing the waitlisted

@playcool That’s my estimate in comparison to what I have heard from other posters on CC, and by judging the past years’ records.

But as per as admissions from the waitlist are concerned, U Chicago completes most of the admissions by the end of the month of April, even before the deadline of May 1, by estimating their yield, and the only admits from the waitlist that happen in May are due to any discrepancies that might have risen while calculating the yield. So, quite unfortunately for waitlisted candidates like you and me, the admission committee has already reviewed the waitlisted candidates, and the further we go into the month of May, the more unlikely it becomes that we would be taken off from the waiting list. :frowning:

@blazedragon I don’t know. It just does not make sense that they would decide on the individual admissions from wl before May 1 because they do not know which people would accept to stay waitlisted . there are many who got better offers( good schools with good scholarships) maybe and would not care to stay waitlisted. I am just guessing logically

Hi everyone! Although I’m new to CC, I have been following this thread incessantly in hopes of acquiring new information regarding the WL. Does anyone have an idea of when we will know our final consideration? A friend of mine from NJ was accepted off the WL last Friday, and my regional counselor has mentioned that there will be limited movement through the end of this month. However, on last year’s thread, many people received the rejection email around this time. Like many of you, I’m anxious to hear back, but also tired of waiting.

@serendipity211 I assume by this friday and nolater than May 15 we will know and be able to move on.

@playcool That’s true, logically speaking, I don’t really understand how they exactly work this out, and I really am still having a tiny amount of hope that things might just work out, but well, you never know.

And yes, judging by last year’s threads, the rejections were sent out on around 12th May, I guess, so we should expect at least most of the waitlisted candidates’ decisions any time now…
 And I really do hope that we get positive decisions, but oh well, what has to happen, will happen.

@Serendipity211,if you don’t mind can you let us know that your friend received the email or phone call?thanks.
