Decision: Accepted

I’ve never posted here before, and I know this is quite late, but I am hoping that this information can help other students.

[] Weighted GPA: 4.35
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): My school doesn’t rank, but I know I’m in the top 5%.
[] AP (place score in parentheses): None; my school only offers 1 AP class.
[] IB (place score in parentheses): French SL (6)

Subjective:[ul]

[] Job/Work Experience: Internship for local Congressman last summer (~10 hours a week), Internship at local courthouse for a month (20 hours weekly)
[li] Volunteer/Community service: Peer Court probably counts here. And a mission trip to Mexico. [/ul]
[/li]

Writing (Write a brief description and Rate Quality on 1-10 Scale; 10 as Best):[ul]
[] Essays (Include Subjects):
[li] Common App Main: Reading books (I talked about why I enjoy to read and about my experiences as a reader, and then extrapolated to talk about why it is important for all people to read. I think I over-revised it. (7/10)[/li][] EC Short Answer: As good as a 150 word essay can be. I wrote mine on peer court.(10/10)
[] Extended essay(which topic): Two types of people (savers and spenders). I actually did not care for it but in the letter that my regional counselor sent to me she mentioned that she enjoyed reading it. It was about 300 words and tied in a lot of contrived anecdotes about my family (which evidently, she liked). It was well written, but overly consise, which is a good example of my writing style. (8/10)
[] Optional Essay: I listed my favorite art exhibits, periodical, musicians, novels, and non-fiction books. No explanations.
[] Why Chicago: Genuine, and it was clearly written specifically for Chicago and not a copy-and-paste the name essay. i wrote about the intellectual atmosphere at the school and the Core and how it was a good fit for someone like me who wants to study everything. (9/10)
[] Other:[/ul]
[] Teacher Recommendation #1: I waived my rights but this one was probably amazing. Written by my French teacher, who absolutely loved me. He almost cried when I asked him. And he is an incredibly eloquent writer.
[] Teacher Recommendation #2: This one was probably pretty good too. It was from my history teacher/Aca Dec coach who has a lot of respect for me.
[] Counselor Rec: Eh, probably pretty good, but my counselor is clueless.
[] Additional Rec:
[] Interview: Went really well! The girl who interviewed me was really nice and it was more of a conversation than interrogation. We ended the meeting with a hug and we are still in touch.
[] Art Supplement:
Other[ul]
[] Date Submitted App: 10/25
[] State (if domestic applicant): CA
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Rural public, nothing special but fairly good for its size. I’d say it send 2 kids to Ivies/Stanford etc. every three years.
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket : > $100,000
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):Nothing really… maybe that my first language isn’t English? Or that no other student from my high school has ever attended U of Chicago? I made it clear in my application that I would attend if accepted. [/ul]

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Recommendations, by far the most rigorous courseload at my school, grades, and maybe the interview.
[] Weaknesses: Maybe a lack of more prestigious ECs? Also, my essays weren’t as quirky or whimsical as some.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I was solid in all aspects of my application.
[] What would you have done differently?:[/ul]
