**Writing (Write a brief description and Rate Quality on 1-10 Scale; 10 as Best):

[li] Essays (Include Subjects):
[/li]

[li] Common App Main: Talked about my favorite book character, Isabel Archer from Henry Jamess The Portrait of a Lady. Id give it a 9/10. It was a very standard I have no idea what to do with my life but Im sure Ill figure it out essay with (what I thought was) a new perspective and a creative twist.
[/li]

[li] EC Short Answer: I decided to be original and talk about how I read The New Yorker every week. Id give that a 10 for creativity and because it took a lot of effort to fit into 150 words.
[/li]

[li] Extended essay(which topic): choose your own because I had ABSOLUTELY no idea what to say to any of the prompts. It was really about my hometown and its very hard to explain but unfortunately it had a typo. Darn. 8-10 maybe?
[/li]

[li] Optional Essay: Made a list of my favorite things. I thought it was clever at the time.
[/li]

[li] Why Chicago: Oh this was fun. It was quite long and I basically created an extended metaphor where University is like Oz (as in the Wizard of…) and the applicant (me) is like Dorothy and how UChicago is the perfect Oz. It had a lot of details but I ended by saying something about how no other Oz, not even Hogwarts, could ever hope to rival it!
[/li]

[li] Other:
[/li]

[li] Teacher Recommendation #1: APUS teacher, NHS advisory, and theatre tech director (small school, I know) wrote an amazing rec. I didnt read it but I dont have to.
[/li]

[li] Teacher Recommendation #2: French teacher Ive had for three years who is kind of a big deal in the world of AP French wrote about how Im a true scholar and how I bring something new to each assignment Im given. He used great examples of my work too (I wrote a paper en francais comparing an existentialist hero to the quintessential child and one about Victorian society and repression and one about how the Babar childrens stories are really about French colonialism in Africa).
[/li]

[li] Counselor Rec: good Im pretty sure.
[/li]

[li] Additional Rec: n/a
[/li]

[li] Interview: Alumnus interview. It was really long! It went really well I thought except I went to the wrong coffee shop at first. Dont do that if you can help it.
[/li]

[li] Art Supplement: none. just a resume of sorts.
[/li]

Other[ul]
[] Date Submitted App: 10/29
[] State (if domestic applicant): MA
[] Country (if international applicant): USA
[] School Type: smallish public
[] Ethnicity: Anglo-Irish Jew = White
[] Gender: female
[] Income Bracket: 100-150k I think
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): I suppose the only thing is that Ive had very productive summers:
-Performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Fest (Theatre festival in Scotland) at the young young age of 14 (Terrifying/enlightening experience), 2007
-Interlochen Arts Camp for two years!!! (2008 and 2009)
-JSA summer school at Georgetown University, July 2010
-Princeton Humanities and Creative Arts Symposium Attendee, October 2010

But lots of other people did those things so really its not a hook. I just dont like bumming around my small New England seaside town during tourist season.

**Reflection:
[] Strengths: Passion in everything I do. Ive been told I have a very strong writing voice as well. I think Im well rounded but I have a clear focused path. Ive done almost everything except sports.
[] Weaknesses: Not an excellent test taker. I studied quite hard for the Math on SAT I and it was my lowest score. But if they really do adhere to this holistic process, they they would see that I really am not awful at Chemistry and that I think in a different way than any test. My essays were definitely my strongest area.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I think they saw that I am a passionate person and a passionate scholar-to-be.
[] What would you have done differently?: I would have caught that typo AND my french teacher repeatedly spelled my name wrong in my rec. That was hilarious. Other than that, nothing I guess.

[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc:
I was very shocked. No person from my high school has ever gotten in to UChicago. And when I saw that I was granted 10k of merit scholarship distinction per year I nearly fainted.
