@sm2626: Some schools give AP classes 6 points and Honors 5, so that would lead to a significant increase in GPA. Some schools also include plusses and minuses when calculating GPA, giving you a .3 advantage for a plus next to a grade, but a negative .3 for a minus (rounded).

oh, ok that makes sense. Yeah, my high school doesn’t even give us a GPA boost for honors classes and we only get 5 points for AP’s. thats totally not fair i mean it sucks that i have taken 4 aps and 2 honors but the highest i can get is a 4.2. I hope colleges pay attention to these things.

They definitely do. Your school has to send out a report with your application, and most schools have a class ranking system, so colleges get a good sense of how you’re performing and have a good idea on how to compare you to other applicants.

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc: Congratulations on everyone being accepted into UChicago so far. I know this is a bit late, but better late than never.
Does anyone ever make it with a 3.2-3.4 gpa? :/

i’m really nervous looking at all this, but uchicago is like my dream school.

@vballchick08,
not really. Nearly no one gets accepted with a 3.2-3.4 GPA. Good luck.

what if you do really good on the SATs, have great extracurriculars, and a great essay? I’ve heard of people getting in with 3.5s…
