[ /list] b]Other Factors:**
b]General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:**
Well, it was nice to get in but getting no financial aid means I will not be attending this school.

Accepted! I think im like 2nd percentile for SAT scores lmao (1450/1600) (HOW DO YOU DO MATH?!?!)
But i think the track coach helped me

1450 is well within UChicago’s middle 50 percent.

haha i know but just looking at the other acceptances it seems like the scores are all really high

w/ all these incredibly smarter ppl getting deferred…imma just give up and assume that my deferral will turn into a rejection…i have no more hope…

nice knowing u u chic

I got a new SAT score…so now cr+math goes up to 1510…(was 1380 in Nov.)…tho I kno Standardized test scores aren’t decisive factors,I still sneak in a little more faith that my chance of getting in is slightly pulled up,or not><

Wow I really wish I applied EA now. So many people got in.

If only I didn’t spend so much time on my (deferred) MIT application.

Congratulations if you were accepted. I was deferred. =[

trf, I spent so much time on my MIT app, and I was deferred as well… I wasn’t even going to apply to Chicago until a few weeks before the deadline. MIT was my one and only, but I’m so glad I decided to apply, and now chicago is my first choice. The more I look at MIT, the less I think it’s for me. And I really think I’ll get rejected come March. It won’t be a surprise.

I’m just so excited for Chicago. I don’t think anyone knew there’d be this big an advantage for EAers. I have a friend who got deferred (it’s his first choice), so I’m feeling pretty worried about you RDers. It looks like it’ll be pretty hard.

At least you didn’t apply EA and get deferred! You can now hope that you would’ve been accepted EA and will be RD. Good luck!

I suppose I shall post something now. I applied EA and didnt get in. Im very upset. Not because I got rejected, because I didnt. They said they never recieved my school councellor report which was sent in late by him, so now im unsure who to believe and was deffered to RD. So now I unno what to do :P

But congrats to those of you who got in! :)

“Well think of it this way. By posting here, when some poor c/o 2015 soul revisits these boasts countless times in his decision anxiety, he’ll be able to see the true emotions, worry, optimism, pessimism, everything else that’s a lot more important than seeing a cold facade of stats. What’s a decision thread even worth anyway. You could virtually imitate an accepted person’s stats and still get turned down. The converse is also true. We’re doing that poor soul (and other pour souls, who will hopefully remember to maintain the good cheer that characterizes our lot) a favor by preserving what should truly matter to a Chicago applicant, the people behind the statistics.”

srrinath- this guy’s getting in.

Decision: Accepted

[] ECs listed on app: XC captain, track, soccer on competitive team outside of school, class president 11th and 12th grades, writing tutor, president of a foreign language club, student rep to school board, playing fun gamezzzzz
[] Job/Work Experience: worked as a babysitter (lol once again. i included that on my app. it takes up time!) volunteered in a library for fourty hours.
[] Essays (subject and responses): common app was pretty good. i wrote about my connection with an emotional song (“strange fruit”) and how it influenced my interest in history. why chicago essay was really bland. uhhh and as for my supplement for chicago, i wrote about my gawkiness as a child and how i outgrew my jeans very quickly. it was good, not great.
[] Teacher Recs: probably pretty good, but i never read them.
[] Counselor Rec: good… he’s nice, and we get along well, but not amazingly.
[] Interview (feel, interviewer and general location): had a somewhat short interview, but we really connected. she was very personable and seemed to enjoy talking to me, although she never actually wrote anything down (which, in retrospect, was probably best since i would have been wondering what she was writing down the wholeeee interview).
[li] Hook (TASP, RSI, Research, etc.): nothing too amazing… i do a lot of activities, i suppose, but who doesn’t these days?
[/li]

[] Ethnicity: caucasian
[] Gender: male
[] Income Bracket: not sure exactly, but i don’t qualify for financial aid, if that’s what you’re asking.
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): didn’t you already ask me this in the previous section?
[] Strengths: again, nothing too crazy about my application. i’d say that most of its components were good, but not great, so their combined powers probably tipped the scales in my favor.
[] Weaknesses: a girl with high cheekbones.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: i’ve got the luck of the irish, of course!
[/li]

[/ul]Other Factors: none that i can think of, at this time.
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
Yay for us! I still need to visit Chicago, so maybe I should get on top of that. I’ve applied to a few other schools (Emory, Yale, Brown, UPenn), so when I hear back from them, I’ll make my decision. That said, Chicago is very alluring and enticing, so it’s definitely a top contender. Good luck to all as this process continues!

Sigh First time I’ve come on here again since being rejected EA. So dissapointed and depressed…I have NO idea how this happened to me?

[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I COULD NOT stop crying for like 2 days. UChicago was my top choice and I thought I made that so clear in my essays. :frowning: I talked about the Core and everything I loved about UChicago. Idk how I got rejected, not even deferred. Life is over. :frowning:

^^^That is a head scratcher! If two English professors thought your Chicago essay was good…just huh?

The only problem I see is that your Common App. essay might have been too cliche.

The only explanation I can think of is that something went wrong with your application.

WE, did you get an interview? If so, ask your interviewer nicely about what may have triggered the rejection. Make the best of the situation and move forward. You are a strong candidate for many top schools.

Hey, Waldo! Life is definitely NOT over for you. Assuming that you applied to a few colleges other than Minnesota and Mankato State, I suspect that by this time next year you are going to be very happy with your educational life, and Chicago will be a dot in your rear-view mirror.

They probably rejected you (a) because you were making everyone else they were accepting look inadequate, and/or (b) so they could say, “We even rejected one minority candidate with a 36 ACT who ranked second in his class at a good school. Look how tough we are!”

Why WE was rejected is indeed quite a puzzle. In any case, my condolences. It’s a shame you won’t be joining the UC student body, as you seem like quite the ideal student Chicago is looking for. I don’t know what went wrong…

It would be interesting to see exactly what those letters of recommendation said. I once saw a recommendation that said something like: “X is a very bright and hardworking students who works well under strict supervision.”

You may want to call ask that they review your application to make sure there was not a mistake. Those things do happen.
