I know this spot will go to someone who loves Chicago and will thrive there. College Confidential has been a major help in my own admissions process and I have always wanted to make one of these stats posts to help future UChicago applicants evaluate themselves. Good luck Regular Decisioners! To those deferred, you’ll find somewhere amazing soon, trust me!

[/ul][ b]Subjective:**[ul]
[] ECs listed on app: 4 years v swim, 11 years piano, some volunteering, summer trip to china
[] Job/Work Experience:
[] Essays (subject and responses):
personal essay: swimming
why chicago: generic

[] Interview (feel, interviewer and general location): super chill, young guy who graduated last year, talked about things like my current gym class and some random math class, not too intellectual
[li] Hook (TASP, RSI, Research, etc.):
[/li]

[] Strengths: well rounded…aka none
[] Weaknesses: extended essay, submitted bare minimum of materials
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied:
[/li]

[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: best advice I can give is to not kill yourself in high school doing things you hate just so you can get in college, its not worth it and little things barely help imo. my example was community service, not that I hate volunteering or anything but the specific activities I did sucked, so i barely did any of it and I turned out (and hopefully will turn out) fine.

i’m assuming uchicago doesn’t reject anyone who applied EA right?

Are there any hispanics that applied? Or am i the only one???

They reject people. 2 of the kids from my school got rejected. I guess they’ve gotten to hate my school that much over the years.

Decision: Accepted

[ *] ECs listed on app: Varsity soccer/Outside Soccer, Peer Tutoring (important!), took a Creative Writing (shows diversity!) course at Columbia University, some other stuff
[ *] Job/Work Experience: N/A
[ *] Essays (subject and responses): Probably the deciding factor considering my previous stats pale in comparison to everyone else who got accepted…

Extended essay - about my morning routine (I thought it was quite good)
Why Chicago - talked about how I was the only one in my class who thought derivatives were interesting (not particularly innovative, but well written)
Optional essay - talked about rap, David Sedaris, and a painting (quite good I thought as well)

[ *] Teacher Recs: Haven’t read them but i’m sure they are amazing (they would have to be for me to get in)

I also sent 3: French, Art + U.S. History, and Mathematics

[ *] Counselor Rec: Same as above
[ *] Interview (feel, interviewer and general location): Coffee shop - I thought it was excellent

[ *] Weaknesses: GPA/SAT Scores (Although 1420 is well within the range I believe, just pales compared to these 1500+ people)
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Essays and I included some particularly impressive poems in the additional information section of the Common Application.

[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:

[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I think my essays and ECs really showed how I am a much different candidate than the university usually attracts, but still able to fulfill every expectation, and they were probably willing to take a risk, having been drawn by how eccentric my essays described me, despite my lower-than-average grades and mid-range test scores.
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
UChicago is tied for #2 with NYU Stern for me. Columbia is my number #1. Hopefully I can get into those two schools as well RD b/c I was rejected from Penn Wharton ED.

Congrats to the people that got accepted! To those that were deferred/rejected, there are so many great colleges out there that you will like that will want you, so continue to enjoy our life. And remember, to all that didn’t get in that a college shouldn’t change what you are as a person, and that’s what’s most important about each and every one of us.
