Well my school does it out of a 8.0 scale, with 8.5 being the highest (the extra .5 comes from the weighted classes such as APs and honors) and my GPA is 7.64 weighted. So that’s like a 3.82 weighted, if you divide by 2 to make it on the 4.0 scale. I think thats how it works?

Well on a 4.0 scale an honors A was a 5 so you may be a little higher than you think. And GPA is important, there are just a lot of other things that go into it. People that got defered just need to realize they weren’t the cream of the crop and that if they really are THAT good they’ll get their acceptance email eventually.

^Not on an uw 4.0 scale which is what they use. Different high schools use different weighting systems so they just put everyone on an A=4 scale and then evaluate the strength holistically. You needed a high uw gpa and a hard schedule for ea.

To those of you that have been deferred, don’t be influenced by people saying you weren’t the “cream of the crop”. As the parent of one who was accepted with lower ACT, lower GPA, less AP classes and less EC’s this simply isn’t true. I don’t know how people can keep arguing that when you have someone offering you the example of someone accepted with a less impressive resume. I don’t know what the heck criteria they are using.

This is the longest thread I have ever seen.

Did all the kids who applied EA get their decisions?

^everyone should have received their decisions by dec23rd

Still waiting for the letter in the mail to arrive (accepted in an e-mail on Friday 12/17, CoE). Anyone from CA receive the letter already?

jora, of course there are going to be a few that fall through the cracks. And for all we know your kid actually had something in his applitcation that was really inmpressive/made the school want him. Example, is he a one legged vietnamese immagrant that works a full job down at the docks but still has time to do well in school?

The University said they wanted a smaller class this year. Their problem last year was accepting too many kids too soon and then having too many enroll. Also, this is the first year on the common app so there are more applicants than ever. This all means more and more kids will be defered in the EA stage but could very easily get in later.

Finally, you can’t look at GPAs or test scores and assume everything else in on the same level. What about IS vs OOS, legacy or not, APs, ECs, essays, circumstance, URM, and all that jazz.

Okay, to answer all your questions…I believe the moderator deleted those posts. And no, since I’m not 2, I didn’t ‘report’ anyone.

also, Souris…yes I did apologize, but I didn’t feel it was necessary to ‘admit’ I called him a db, since I never denied it. You asked for an apology, but I already gave one.

goblue418…yes, that does make sense. I was referring to my use of the word ‘ever’. It was too finite a word and instead chose to use the word ‘generally’. Also, since you asked, we are caucasion.

jorabamama…I did not get bronco ‘kicked off’ the site. He either got booted another way or chose to leave on his own.

to whoever responded to me:
i’m just frustrated that they defferred such a large amount of people. there just isn’t a point of offering an early decision if it is going to be a vague one. that’s all I am saying. oh and I did not know that umich usually never rejects anyone in the early rounds.

A few people used the phrase “cream of the crop” to reference the early admits.
I think it would be much more accurate to say they admitted a select few first round who in some way STOOD OUT and/or were more “DISTINCT” and ergo more readily easy to identify as fits for the class they seek. This means that SOME students might have had lower stats, but “fit” the “did well at a competitive school/or overcame adversity” theme. Other stood out because of their stats + class rank + caliber of program. Which is not to say that the deferred candidates were less qualified or more qualified – just that their “hook” did not IMMEDIATELY or EASILY identify them, YET, key word being YET.

^If that were true then, to be completely honest, I have no idea how I got accepted. Considering the pool for OOS is even more difficult than in-state and that I would consider myself an average applicant for OOS (maybe even a little below average? hard to judge these things), who knows why they picked me and not someone else. People, at some point it comes down to luck/randomness I think. Just relax, you will ALL end up where you were supposed to in the end.

I was just curious about when the Ross pre-admit would come out. Would that be a separate email. If anyone has any information, it would be greatly appreciated.
