“@eziamm I don’t want to argument over school rankings, but Ivy League schools are generally more academically strong overall. Michigan is known for its programs, like engineering, etc.”

With the exception of HYP, no Ivy League school is “generally more academically strong overall” than Michigan. They will all have stronger student bodies in terms of test scores, but not necessarily stronger “academic” programs.

The reason all of Michigan’s peers, including Vanderbilt, have much lower acceptance rates is simply because they are MUCH SMALLER SCHOOLS. Lower acceptance rates do not mean a school is better.

For those of you that don’t know this, UM technically requires 2 years of a foreign language, BUT the truth is without 4 years, they don’t even read your essays. You are weeded out basically immediately.

Hello guys not going to lie i told u guys thurs day- accpetance/ deferrals, firday acceptance, monday deferrals with some rejections and i can almost guaranntee tomm will be almost all rejections so gl guys I got deferred thursday so you know fate is fate and imma work hard for the semester guys gl by the way my sacore was 28 act, 3.7 gpa highest volunnteering hours in my community, created first ever business club in my school district and play tennis, and I am the first ever highh schooler on my board of directors for my cities chamber of commerce and i go to a top 1% high school in the nation OOS ohio …GL all… they also told me that last year they over enrolled people so they were really cutting down hard in EA and then looking at the pool of RD to see the qualified people but honestly i think all us Deferred people have a better shot becuase all the top motivated people noramlly applied EA so gl and i understand if u cant wait till april but i dont mind better chance for me haha gl all we are all smart…

"My dad called the admissions office awhile and here’s what someone on the board of admissions told him:

They accepted less EA applicants this year than they have in previous years. They DID (or WILL) send out rejections as well as deferrals in the EA round. The people accepted in EA were, in their eyes, the top 10% to 15% of the EA applicant pool."

SICKKKKK. So in their eyes sub-31 sub-2000 applicants are CLEARLY in the top 10-15% of the applicant pool as opposed to higher-scoring applicants who are well-rounded and getting into other selective schools? LAWLLLLLLLLLL

everyone can go and pay their enrollment deposits if they want. WA updated.

@massgirl: I hate to say it, but umich is a public university and favor in state kids. Kids who are above a 31 will probably get off the deferral list soon enough as long as they show they’re interested.

forgot to post this. but was accepted to lsa a few days ago

30 act
3.9 unweighted, 4.3 weighted
740 us history
probably good recs
really good common app essay/mich supplement was okay
5 apush, 5 ap span lang, 4 ap bio
strong research internships

^I agree with you 100%. Of course it’s not all about the numbers. But a lot of us with good numbers also had good apps all around. There are legit people on this board who got into Ivies ED and then got deferred from UMich EA. So clearly this **** is ****ed up.

May I ask u what u are embarrassed about??? They cant everyone in. Just because u don’t understand the process doesn’t mean they are wrong. Does your sister have 4 years of foreign language? Without it they don’t even read your essays.

massgirl-don’t be bitter. Most of those accepted had exceptional scores, the rest probably did something amazing outside of school.
Wolverinemom- the foreign language thing is completely untrue. Where are you getting your information?

It definitely wasn’t only kids with scores on the lower to average end getting accepted EA. And all due respect, but you didn’t see those applications and neither did I. We don’t know what their essays, recs, ECs, hooks, extenuating circumstances were like.
