Official Unofficial Class of '11 Thread

Are you referring to me? If yes, then I am taking it on Saturday. You’re taking it tomorrow, right? Good luck!

Yep, thanks!

No problem:) Hmm…has anyone read the tags? haha

Also, when are you guys taking the SAT II tests? I’m not sure when I’m going to yet.

I just read the tags. And I was like, LOL, TS Elliot? ***.

And I don’t know if I’m going to take SAT II’s, since I don’t think they’re required for admission at the places I’m interested in. But I plan on taking AP exams in May.

I already took four… I’m considering taking APUSH and maybe Physics at the end of this school year.

^^O wow, I thought most colleges wanted SAT IIs. I’ll have to look into that, thanks:) I intend to do the same:) Let’s just hope I don’t take everything in one day…^Are you referring to SAT IIs or AP tests? Either way, congratulations, that’s awesome!

SAT IIs, lol. I took Math IIC, Bio, Chinese, and World History.

I’m not sure having more than 3 SAT IIs would help… what do you guys think?

Unless you completely bombed the ones you already took, I’d focus your time on your college applications. However, I suppose you could take more if you wanted to:)

I think all really competitive colleges want them. But I’d be pretty content with a non-top 20 school. Northwestern requires SAT II’s for admission into certain programs. And just reccommends them for all of the other stuff.

^ I have no idea when to take SAT IIs either. I’m thinking maybe one or two in the Spring and one next fall? Or maybe I’ll just do them both in the Fall. I’m definitely taking SAT II Literature, but I’m not sure what to do for the other yet.

And also, in case I’m not on again tonight (unlikely) best of luck to everyone taking the PSATs tomorrow!

I hope (and am sure) that you will all do wonderfully! :)

No, I got 800 on all them except the Bio one ): grr

But yeah, like I see people in the Chance Me threads that have like 6 SAT IIs… IDK if they matter though/do colleges look at them?

Edit: I don’t mean asking if SAT IIs in general matter, I mean taking more than 3.

I don’t think they matter. Why waste your time on taking more SAT IIs than are necessary when you could be devoting your time to your college application? If you want to take more, then I think you should, but I don’t think it’s necessary. I mean, say you apply to Harvard. You took three SAT tests and got a couple of 800s while you got a 750 on the other. You only took three(which is all that is necessary) and spent the rest of your time on your college application(which usually means you did well on it). This other guy took 6 SAT IIs but didn’t spend as much time on his application and it wasn’t as great as yours. If you both are pretty similar in grades and scores, who do you think will get in? The guy who is portrayed as someone who just does well on taking multiple tests or the guy who portrays personality(acts like a human being) in his essay AND does well on tests? haha

Yeah I totally see your point, but idk. My personality has this annoying trait where I HAVE to exceed the minimum… and the schools all say that they “require 3”. I don’t know if it means “a minimum of 3”, or “just take 3 and if you do take more, only 3 will be looked at” :/

Lol, no I see your point:) You only need three, but to be honest, that’s exactly the total they are looking for. Colleges will probably only look at or at least focus on three anyway, so why waste your time taking more? I know it can be tempting, but really focus on everything else and then if there is time remaining take another one or two. However, get your essays done first!

It would be better to do all of them.

It shows that you have a diverse mastery of all the basic subjects.
800s in every test except languages=you’re pretty legit.

^ Honestly though, don’t you think that would make you a pretty generic applicant? Everyone applying to Ivies(or at least everyone who has a chance) is going to have awesome grades and scores. Therefore, wouldn’t it make sense to devote some time to doing something that makes you stand out? Haven’t you seen that Harvard123(or something like that)person’s thread? He only has a 3.6 GPA and has a pretty good shot at Ivies because of his ecs. While I’m not saying grades and scores aren’t important, they are, but wouldn’t you want something extra that makes you stand out amongst the pool of applicants with 4.6+ GPAs?

I’m not taking SAT II’s, because I’m not going to apply to any really competitive colleges.

I don’t know if where I want to go has changed (I don’t know that either), but I’ve definitely gotten a better sense of where I can go. (financial stuff, etc.)

Are you guys the eldest sibling in your family? What role do your parents play in the whole college thing?

I’m the youngest (I have one older brother) so I feel like my mom knows a lot about the process, so she doesn’t have any insane expectations that are impossible to meet, which is nice.

I find that some of my friends who are the oldest in the family have parents who are either clueless or REALLY into the whole college process thing.

meh, my SAT’s either generic or a bit on the low side for ivies (2200). Then again it was a cold score so I’ll definitely study and retake (:

I’m hoping photography and freelance graphic design can give me and edge though, since those aren’t the stereotypical Asian extracurriculars lol.

^: Nah, I’m the younger sibling. Even though my sis is @ Harvard I don’t have that much pressure… my parents actually think I’m giving myself too much pressure. They’d be totally cool with it if I went to Berkeley. Like, I wanted to take Chem AP but they were like omg no *** that’s too much work.

I’m not the oldest, but I’m the only. And honestly, my parents don’t know **** when it comes to a college search. Like my dad just knew he wanted to go to Purdue, and because he was in-state, he automatically got in. And my mom just went to the local part of IU. So my parents are clueless. I depend more on the internet and friends since my guidance counselor doesn’t care about us. (:

Aww, well this is a good website for you:)
