Official Unofficial Class of '11 Thread

I do love learning often to a fault- sigh- I get so excited about Social Studies or English and do extra work its really bad. But doesn’t everyone.

Good luck applying to TASP! I’m not applying, but I’m sure you’ll do fine. :]

This year is really stressful lol. There’s so many things to think about and do, and so little time to do them all…

Plus school this year is really intense, workload wise. But it’ll all be over in June XD

@Warts, I’ve been doing debate since my freshman year, and I love it. I like having a reason to dress up for more than just holidays. We always come across really unique and interesting people. And we usually have a good laugh or two. I could do without getting up early on Saturdays for it. Our meet was in the central part of the state, and we live in the north, so we had to drive three hours. So, I had to get up at 2:30. It’s basically my main extracirricular. I don’t really do a ton, but I’m devoted to what I do.

And I’ve never heard of the TASP or RSI. So I think that’ll mean I’m not going to apply. Plus, they’re probably out east somewhere, and travel is too expensive.

^I think it’s an English program:) Either that or I’m way off haha

Also, I’m glad you like it, it sounds like fun:)

^ I always wished my school had speech and debate. Sound like a really fun and rewarding EC! :)

I don’t do speech. The teacher that is in charge of it runs it like a dictatorship. But my friends keep wanting me to join it since they’re in it. Which I guess means it isn’t as hardcore as it seems. But I had the teacher for speech class, and our personalities kind fo clashed. :/

youwiththeface- i do speech&debate too. I’m an Original Oratory person and I love it. Where do you live? What leagues do you compete in?

I do Student Congress. And I’m from Indiana. So I’m in the IHSFA. And NFL when it comes to districts and all that jazz.

I’m in NFL and NCFL and PHSSL. PHSSL is the Pennslyvania league. NFL isthe national league- can’t go to the national tournaments because of cost and the NCFL is the catholic league- we mainly compete in the catholic league.

Wow, I can’t believe I didn’t see the description of TASP defined haha, o well, I don’t plan to do it so I guess it doesn’t matter:) It’s nice to know what it is though.

Hey I’m a speechie too! lol
i do domestic extemp in MSHSL (Minnesota’s League) and NFL.

And the part of the state that I’m in is super competitive. Like we had a school from the Bronx come to a meet one time. And schools from St. Louis, Illinois, and California at another. I don’t go to a very big speech/debate school. The debate team has a total of about 7 people on it at my school. So definitely small.

Bronx Science school? They are coming to our Langan meet- stressful!
but awesome.

I wish I went to Exeter/Andover/Hotchkiss/Choate :/

I’m curious how our college lists have changed over time (schools you’re not interested in that you weren’t, vice versa). Any dramatic changes in schools you’re considering? What kind of college lists do people have at this point?

^First of all, lol at your location haha:) Let’s hope we all do well on the test:)

As far as colleges go though, I had wanted to go to a UC, but then I decided I didn’t want to go to an immense school full of 20,000+ students. I’m still applying to them, but ultimately I would be more content at a smaller school.

Yeahhh, Bronx Science school came once. And so did some school from Long Beach.

@college3231 - My college list has changed dramatically. I used to want to get as far away as possible, but now my list is basically limited to the midwest at this point. And it has gotten a bit more realistic in some parts and has changed to what I want to do with my life. My dream used to be Brown, but I realized that a) I can’t afford it and b) it is really far. So. Basically my list is something like: Iowa State, Central Michigan, Purdue, Ball State, U Chicago and Northwestern. I’m pretty sure I can’t get into UChicago or Northwestern, but I’ll just press my luck when it comes time to apply.

Yeah same, my school choices changed A LOT from 6 months ago.

Up until March of this year, I would have been satisfied if I got into UC Berkeley. After my sister got into Harvard I realized that ordinary people actually DO get into HYPS, not just the rich and famous, or Yo Yo Ma or something. So it’s kind of a new goal for me.

^Good luck! I also noticed how your self-esteem has gone up!:>
Haha, yes, UC Berkeley would be nice to get into, but again, I would rather try to get into a smaller school where I would be more content:)

I forgot, were you taking the PSAT on Sat or Wed?
