Official USC 2012 Transfer Thread

@ alamemom
Thank you so much for that info! I didn’t know that. I also thought it was later on than that date. I’m guessing your son or daughter goes there, how do they like it?

Would it be weird to transfer in as a SENIOR? Is that even allowed? I’m hoping to get into Annenberg.

@vatransfer: LMAO, that would be pointless, IMO. I mean, you’d have no time to build relationships with fellow students and professors or get integrated in the USC community. It would be like going to a drive thru, getting your meal and leaving…

@gousc92: what about transferring as a junior? I mean usually normal students get involve more in campus community and get to know their professors in last 2 years right? I hope I won’t miss many things and will have a wonderful experience in my last 2 year as an undergrad at USC (if I get accepted).

More importantly, being a LIFE-TIME member of Trojan alumni is really advantage for anyone’s future.

@tonynguyen92 - Oh, of course. I’m not trying to offend anyone or dissuade anyone from applying. I just feel that one year as a senior would be really insufficient. It would be better to just graduate and apply to SC for grad school. 2 years is more than enough time to get involved.

I’m hoping that I can be admitted this year as a sophomore, but if not, I definitely will be applying as a junior! :)

Does anyone know if SC puts a lot of emphasis on the supplement paragraph? I submitted mine and now after reading it, I felt I could’ve been a lot more specific; however, the question did say a ‘paragraph’, which is why I’m confused as to why it has like a 3,000 word limit.

I feel like I’ve totally screwed up whatever chance I did have, lol. -___-

YOU GUYS! I remember posting on 2011 thread every single day last year and I GOT IN after my freshman year at SMC!
I wish you good luck :-). It has been 2 months so far at SC and I have experienced drunken nights at frat houses, Stuff goes down every weekend. Hahahaha. But seriously, SC has so many smart people and your experience here will be truly enriching. I learn a lot every single day. My life has actually changed for the better now. I love it here. Good luck!

@Stressy

Why did you submit it so early? Essentially, the supplemental question is your chance to distinguish yourself from other applicants who did not research. It is your chance to tell the admission officers why you want to go to USC, and as a transfer the why question is very important.

o wow you already finished ur supplement and submitted it already! i feel so behind. the most I have done is go on common app and downloaded the application. lol i don’t really think I’m going to start it till after finals in december. has anyone else started on their application yet?

@blackrose

It’s due on February 1. You have plenty of time. I’m not saying wait until January 31 to start it but I personally feel it’s way too early to be submitting applications when they’re going to be put aside until Freshman applications are done being reviewed.

@mitchAPalooza
lol no i understood what u were saying I was just afraid that I was missing something or if it’s just smart to start now. But i feel better now. haha

Has anyone visited the campus before? I really want to but I live all the way in Florida which is pretty much the other side of the country. I’m only going by what I have read and videos and it looks pretty amazing but still it would be nice to hear from someone else’s perspective.

@MitchAPalooza

I did research though, that’s the thing. In fact, I know quite about 'SC, considering one of my cousins attended, as well as my other cousin’s girlfriend. I was a bit specific, but I condensed it, because it specifically said a ‘paragraph’. Only real “regret” is submitting it too early, but I guess we’ll see.

@Stressy: Did they charge you the app fee when you submitted?

They don’t charge you until you submit your actual application, I believe…so you have until Feb 1st to pay. Even then, you can apply for a fee waiver. :p

You already submitted your app?! wow, you must have tons of confidence. For some reason this year, everyone seems to be applying to Marshall :/… oh well, gotta look for safetys now ugh.

BlackRose21,
Yes, my daughter is a senior at USC. She had high expectations as she entered, and USC has exceeded them all. It is an amazing school.

vatransfer,
USC, like nearly all colleges and universities, requires a minimum number of “in-residence” units before they will grant a degree bearing the name of that university. Regardless of the number of units you have earned at the time of transfer, you must complete at least 64 units at USC. Students generally take 16-18 units each semester, so in most cases that will take at least 4 semesters.

http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1213/TransferringToUSC_2012.pdf

So, while you can transfer with excess units, you will still need to complete two years at USC to receive a degree from USC.

Good luck!

No, I’ve just submitted my supplement. :s Don’t rush it like I did! Take your time.

Also, people always applying to Marshall, because it’s kind of USC’s specialty… I’d say that and film.

What GPA would I need to get accepted as an econ major?

@uschopeful2013

I got in last year with a 3.6., but i have solid EC’s as well as strong upward trend. Hope this helps.

when they say they won’t look at high school records/scores if you have more than 30 credits, does that mean 30 credits by the time you apply or 30 credits at the end of the year? also if you get an SGR, does that mean they won’t look at your high school record/scores? i keep finding different answers
