Official USC 2012 Transfer Thread

Hi! I’m looking to transfer to USC and I’m really confused. It’s not really USC, it’s the common app that’s giving me some trouble. It says I have to send some strange variety of forms and whatnot to college officials (okay I can sort of understand this) but a high school counselor as well? @_@ I don’t see how that is even relevant for transfer students. Also, it asks for my high school GPA, and I have no idea what it is. The weird thing is, I never got my final high school transcript. I never looked at it. I just had it sent to my UC after I got in. I can probably guess what grades I got, but high school was so long ago. Should I just order a copy on Docufied or something for myself? Or can I just guess and have the original sent to USC so I save money.

I also have some questions about USC’s GE’s and pre-reqs. They are NOT a requirement right (I firmly believe that there is no way in hell I will be finishing the Physics series this year…)? I’m a prospective bio major and if Physics is a must have pre-req, then you can ignore everything in this post lol. I also have two whole GE categories (perhaps 3?), not including the ones that you must do at USC, missing. My schedule has always been more geared towards my own school/transferring to another UC. This is sort of a last minute thing that struck me and I kind of regret not preparing earlier. They seem to encourage finishing up GE’s at USC though…or was that only for those two categories?

Finally, can I just get a list of everything that is REQUIRED by USC for transfer in terms of forms and things to submit? Sorry for the long and stupid sounding stream of questions…thanks!

@oceanpartier: I emailed my USC counselor about those forms and he just said that for the time being, to focus on getting in your transcripts (high school and college) and wait for them to request any additional forms.

The GEs and pre-reqs aren’t required, but the more you can finish, the better. As long as you get your writing req done, (they’re big on that) you should be in good shape. :)

^Gotcha! Thanks a ton…that puts me a little more at ease about applying.

I’m making a last second push for USC as well, so will be completing one of the GE’s this semester (II) and the other three next Spring (I, III, V), plus the diversity course.

Would USC look down on this as a last second rush, or appreciate the push to getting in?

@paragon24: I don’t see why USC would look negatively at you for applying again. If anything, I would think that it shows them how dedicated you are to becoming a part of the Trojan family. :)

@oceanpartier: No worries! But I would probably go get my high school transcripts ASAP if I were you. I was able to grab a few of mine, official in unmarked envelopes so that when time came to turn in the application, all they’d need is an address and they’d be good to go.

@gousc92

how do you get a usc counselor? i tried emailing them and they never got back to me…

Yeah, I also haven’t gotten a response.

@hajypajy - I can’t recall exactly how I found mine because I’m on my iPhone, but admission counselors are region based. I selected my region and was given the email, name and number of whom I’m supposed to contact. I guess I managed to get lucky to get one who replies to me quickly?

Did you guys get specific names and email addresses or just a general email address?

Hi everyone, I’m also planning to transfer to USC Marshall as a JUNIOR. I just have several questions, so I really need some advices from anyone with experiences about this process.
Statistic: Pacific University (4-years private in Oregon)
GPA after freshman year: 4.0.
Courses will be completed after next spring: WRIT, Calculus 1, GE I, II, III, BA 1&2. I may finish GE V next semester too but not Diversity course.
International student: no language requirement at USC.
Also: on-campus job experience, paid job, volunteer every summer in Vietnam, plan to include several extracurricular in high schools.
Recommended Letter: one from my business adviser (Stanford PhD)

I think I can maintain 4.0 after this semester. My questions is: Do you think that not finishing recommended course (GE V & diversity) will damage my admission.

I asked my territory counselor and he said that they usually only look at college GPA if I already have over 30 semester units. What’s about essay, extracurricular, …?

I plan to put 1 on-campus job, 1 paid job, 1 volunteer (every summer), and several extracurricular in high school on common app. It is enough?

Both my semester in freshman year, I took intensive 3 science courses including lab (4.0 GPA). But this year, I took accounting & economic classes for Marshall. Do you think it is going to hurt my chance because I changed my mind (major)?
Sorry for asking too many questions. I will really appreciate your help. Thanks first

Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum but have been lurking around for a while,
I hope to transfer to Marshall fall 2012, my only delima is that I do not have business calc done. Will this completely rule me out? I will have about 60 some units by the end of spring but the highest math I will have completed is college algebra.
Thanks in advance!

this might help you guys out a bit.

@jakehbradley

Don’t apply because your application will not be considered. I’m not saying to be a you know what but just trying to help you avoid the time commitment and application fee. Check out the quote below from Marshall’s transfer guidelines.

If you’re a freshman work on the prerequisites and completing the recommended courses.

Thank you guys, so there is no “pre business” major you can do at usc before being accepted into marshall?
I will have all my GE classes done and my AA degree from a CC…

Thank you guys for the help!

@jake

Unfortunately, having the GE courses completed and your AA will not help you out in this case. Prerequisites are highly important and as I stated above, not completing them will make your application invalid. I do believe they have a pre-accounting major but even then you must be admitted into Marshall.

Try looking for other majors in CLAS.

Good luck to the 2012 transfer applicants!

The financial aid deadlines often come as a surprise to transfer students. Your deadlines are the SAME as for freshman applicants - **February 2nd for the CSS/Profile and FAFSA.

The confusion seems to arise because of the use of “New” and “Continuing” to describe applicants, and transfers sometimes assume “New” only applies to freshmen applicants.

Your deadlines are the ones specified for “New” students, because you will be new to USC in Fall 2012. The “Continuing” student deadline applies to students who were at USC the previous year and will continue at USC in 2012.

Good luck to all!

Are there any spring transfers that need student housing? $900 a month shared room and a parking space. 45 second bike ride to campus. Really big room and down to earth roommates. Let me know

How does the BABBA work? Is your major Business administration? Can you have a concentration in say…Econ? finance?

Thanks

@Yakov

What is BABBA? I’ve never heard of it before and a quick Google search yielded no results.

Bachelor of Art in Business Administration, actually a typo, BABA. Similar to a BBA, or a BSBA. I’m curious if you have to major in business administration or that is just your degree BABA.
