Official USC 2012 Transfer Thread

Yeah that makes sense that they wouldn’t look at ur SAT scores. It’s just a way that they use to see how well you would do your Freshmen year.

Hello everyone.

So i need to speak to someone at USC that can sit down with me to get all of my situation in order (classes taken, major courses taken and needed, etc) as I feel my counselors at my school (which i won’t name lol) know jack about USC. They have on three different occasions given me misinformation, and have at times been honest about there lack of knowledge about details regarding transfers to this school.

What i need is a counselor or individual who can sit down with me for 20 to 30 minutes to sort out my situation, and show me the path, which thereafter for me, will become USC or bust. lol

It’s tricky, and at times confusing sorting everything out, with the credits I have completed. Which is around 110 units by now, fyi. :(

I’m lost and whenever I call, they say make one of those group appointments. I need just a little time with someone from the scool that actually knows what they’re talking about, and that I can trust and go full force and do what they ask of me there after.

@MeMyself, are you at a CC? I know my CC regularly has admission counselors come in to speak to those who sign up. You can ask anything from, “What courses do I need to take for my major” to “how competitive is my major”. blahabalah

You can also try: Error; this.
It just gives you a general overview of what courses you need and which are transferable. 110 units? I’d say more than half covers the requirements, if you took very general things like anthro, psych, soc, history, math, english, etc.

Good luck. :)

Letters of recommendations aren’t required? Do they consider you more if you do have letters of recommendations?

Has anyone submitted the supplement yet?

@Stressy: I was thinking about that but I found USC’s FAQ concerning the application, and they said they don’t encourage anything extra not explicitly required by the school we’re applying to:

And I haven’t submitted the supplement yet. Funny how it’s the easiest thing, but I’m so gung-ho about making this the perfect app that I’ve put off sending it in.

Hey guys!!

Recently stumbled upon this thread and decided I should join the discussion since I’m also transferring as a Junior this upcoming year.

I’ll be transferring in the School of Architecture.

I’m kind of disheartened by the fact that there hasn’t been one mention of USC’s School of Architecture in this thread; Is it not popular or something?

But anyways I’ve started on my application and have gotten down to the essay portion of the common app. Anyone have any good links/tips on the best things to include in the essay. I’m a relatively good writer but it would be much better to know what exactly admission looks for when reading your essay.

Write what you want to write about! That’s the best advice, you are talking to the admission officer through this essay, whatever you want them to know- say it.

It’s due in February, along with the application. You have plenty of time. No need to rush it.

@MichAPalooza: Ok, good! I thought it would be due sooner, but that’s definitely good to know.

I know how I’ll be spending my winter vacation. :)

Can you apply to two seperate schools within USC for fall semester? Say USC Marshall and then USC CLAS as well?

Yes, just complete whatever supplements are required. But one school has to be your first choice, though.

to add on to BurtonElitist’s question. Could you apply for two schools within the school and accept them both like a dual major or do they just put you with whatever was your first choice (hope that makes sense).

I have a bit of a dilemma. I want to transfer to Marshall, but I would still be happy to transfer to CLAS as an econ major. I know that I could make Marshall my first choice and CLAS my second but I was wondering if I made CLAS my first choice, would I have a better shot at getting in?

Hi! I am currently applying to USC as a junior transfer. By the end of Spring 2012, I’m going to have the USC GE’s completed. That is, everything except the language requirement. The class that I took to fulfill the requirement was French 3, except that this was taken during high school at a nearby community college. I currently go to Santa Monica College. I am a bilingual speaker though, so now I was wondering if there is a way to fulfill the requirement through my Spanish, as I can read and write in Spanish. Will it matter if I was born in the U.S though?

@esteban1424
The only way that I could see you getting out of taking the language requirement would to take some kind of placement test, but I don’t know how exactly that works in terms of getting credit for it. Also it shouldn’t matter if you were born in the U.S. You said that you took french 3 during high school at a local community college? I would think that it would transfer to the school that u r at now and they would give you credit for it and thus if you transferred to USC they would see it on ur transcript and give you credit for it.

I took Japanese 1 and 2 during high school at my local community college through dual enrollment and I was able to get credit for it at the university that i’m at now.

hope that helps! :)

@uschopeful2013 imo, it depends strongly on your credentials. I don’t know much about the business school, but from what I’ve seen, it’s highly competitive. I would say if you’ve finished the prereqs for Marshall with a solid GPA and solid ECs, go ahead and put them first. But if you’re lacking in any of those area, put your CLAS major down first instead.

who knows anything about theater? i’m actually considering transferring as a b.f.a. theater major. my chances are even slimmer…

Are there any hope for one-year transfers, transfer applicants who can get 60 units completed by the end of Spring?

Hello. First time poster here. I haven’t seen any Spring transfers here, is it just something shunned upon?

@jimtology

Does USC accept first-year and transfer applications for the spring semester?

Hi Everyone,

I was accepted into USC as a transfer student for the Spring semester of 2012. I was admitted as a Sociology major Sophomore standing. I was wondering if anyone could comment on restrictions about changing majors. i want to change my major to Communications, and I know that its under a different school (Annenberg) and I was admitted into Letters and Science. Is it possible to change, if so how would i go about doing so. Also I’ve heard some really conflicting things like that I can change my major at orientation, or that i have to wait a whole semester then apply to Annenberg. What are my chances of getting into Annenberg as a already attending USC student ?
