what a load of baloney. LA is an incredibly diverse and cultured city. the concept of a single “LA mentality” is ridiculous beyond belief…there’s more to this city than the hollywood crap you see on TV, just saying.

@poserbruin: Obviously, I didn’t say all of LA had the LA mentality, but you would be an idiot to think that it isn’t out there. I was just giving my opinion based on the fact that I have lived there. You are more than welcome to disagree, but don’t assume that I’m just talking crap for no reason.

let’s just say that our disagreements are a testament to the diversity of LA. i’m from a working-class part of the city and don’t really interact with “hollywood” people at all, obviously your experience is a bit different. just saying that the mentality you’re speaking of is just a TIIIIINY subset of the different arrays of people and cultures that Los Angeles has.

L.A. is so much different from any other city on the east coast; it really is. It’s hard to judge the place for someone because I think it’s like NYC. You love it or hate it. If you want to apply, just go for it. If you get in, make sure you visit the school though…It’s a gorgeous place, though.

I think I will, actually - what’s the harm, besides an application fee? Thanks for the advice!

What do you guys think the avg gpa is to transfer in for Philosophy in CLAS??

Looking to transfer from University of Florida any idea what they think of kids coming from similar style universities?

i have a question… I’m taking most of my General Education requirements at CC online far away and I make sure that they transfer over. I was wondering if I take all my major classes/english classes at local CC and most of my G.E’s at the other college online but it won’t say online… Would that look bad?

I was reading the USC transfer booklet and it says that USC doesn’t have a minimum number of transfer units, but if you have fewer than 30, they’ll look primarily at your high school grades. I currently have 9 transferrable units and will have 10 more in the spring. I’m taking a four unit course in the summer as well. When do you need to have thirty transferable units by to have USC look primarily at your college grades?

@uschopeful2013:

Below 30 transferable units and they will weigh in on both your high school grades/ACT/SAT and your college grades. Above 30 transferable, and they only need your hs transcript to verify that you graduated (they weigh in on only college work).

Bump to my question on post #486 :)

@Snizzle
I understand that. But do you need to have 30 transferable units by the time you’re at USC? At the beginning of the fall prior to transfer? Or the beginning of the spring prior to transfer?

30 units after the spring. So if you’re applying for fall 2012, you won’t have enough units

hey guys! i’m just finishing up my first semester as a transfer at USC…best decision I’ve ever made. College confidential is an amazing tool and it really helped me out during the transfer process…also I’ve made so many friends through this page. If you guys have any questions about USC and the transfer process feel free to PM me :slight_smile: it’s a long process but definitely worth it in the end! FIGHT ON!

@uschopeful2013: Yeah, it’s by the end of the spring semester, so you’ll have 19 transferrable on your app. Remember though, it’s not a direct cut-off. Meaning if you have, say, 28 transferrable, that’s probably fine. It’s kind of like as one goes up, the other goes down. So the more college experience you have, the less your hs career matters. They choose 30 because that’s about the average number of general course credits college freshman should have by the end of their first year.

@uschopeful:

My apologies. Didn’t read clearly enough to see that’s what you were asking. Need to have them by the end of spring.

:)

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to stay at CC for 3 years :(

I miscalculated and although I wont have 30 units by the end of the spring but I will have 30 by the end of summer. Will this work/help?

I’ll only have 28 by the end of the year. Under 30 crew woop!

You can transfer with less than 30 credits but if you don’t have 30 by the end of spring, they’ll look at your HS grades/test scores

hi i’m currently a uci freshman applying to transfer to usc for marketing, public relations, or communications. i understand that they are not the easiest majors to get into…i am wondering if i should apply for those majors when i apply or apply for a different major and attempt to switch majors if i do happen to get in?

and what did you put down in your applications that made you stand out? for instance, gpa?
