Official USC 2012 Transfer Thread

@djpsu2015 - yeah, last semester was cake tbh, so I’m nervous that the lack of rigor in my classes will be weighed against me :/.

But this upcoming semester, i’m taking chem and precalc so I really need to finish my application this break bc there’s no way I’ll be able to put any true effort into it with those two classes -_____-

But yes, good luck to us all!

@gousc92

How many credits will you be taking? I’m taking 16…well, more like 15 because the one credit seminar class doesn’t really count lol. I called USC and adjusted my schedule for Spring so I wouldn’t screw myself over with too hard of classes. Currently, I’m signed up for: Statistics, Art History, Comparative Lit, Film Theory, and Econ. My Film theory class is kind of my saving grace, so I wont die from boring subjects lol. My stat will count for the math credit for USC, and the Art History, Comp Lit will cover some of the pre reqs. How many pre reqs have you fulfilled so far? I finished about three or four, i forget. My film theory professor is writing my recommendation, so I figured I’d take his next class since I did exceptionally well in his previous class. That way, if I don’t get into USC this fall, I can ask him for another recommendation and he knows me better.

@Djpsu2015:

I will be taking between 15-17 credits assuming a Courtship and Marriage class i want to take opens up. :confused:
My schedule will be German 102, General Chem, Precalc, Intro to African American Studies (or Courtship). I’m sure I’ll have my hands full :confused: but i took an Art Prehistory class…never again. I was so bored. If it wasn’t for the extra credit he offered, I wouldve gotten a B. -_-. I think ive done diversity, I, eng req, started the language req…but then again I’m applying for sophomore standing so I should be ok.

Lucky you for getting a letter of rec! I’m exceptionally shy so it was difficult for me to talk to any of my professors outside of class. What major are you applying to?

^

That chem class sounds intense! But then again, I’m no science guy shudders. I’m applying to Communication for my first choice; undecided for my second. You? It can get pretty daunting when you try and meet your professors for the first time, but I think it’s best to do it once at the beginning of the semester and more frequently in the middle. But you just have to go for it. It’s not too bad once you get to know them. My newly earned charisma skills as a college journalist have helped me a lot through my classes!

Ahah I find science fascinating, even though I’m garbage at math. But complaining about numbers won’t change anything so I might as well just dive in and hope for the best! :)

Yeah I can’t decide which degree to apply for, so it’s either Sociology, Health and Humanity for first choice and definitely undeclared for second. Ahhh i know! I will definitely be in my math teacher’s office constantly lol.

You’re going to be a sophomore too? Yay!

@Bandit,

From what I’ve gathered from this thread and research, any of those evaluation forms are NOT necessary for transfer students (thank god).

This is from the Viterbi school, but based on how vaguely it was stated, I’m sure it applies to all transfer students:

[Transfer Applicants: Are not required to submit school forms – Viterbi Notes](http://viterbinotes.usc.edu/2011/11/18/transfer-applicants-do-not-need-to-submit-school-forms/)

If we had to do those evaluation sheets, it would be extremely inconvenient on our part.

I forget but someone on this thread went to the transfer day sessions and got it confirmed by the head of transfer department.

@gousc,

I’ll be an incoming sophomore transfer if it all goes well! Those are definitely interesting majors; I heard good stuff about their human/health policy program. I was actually going to put Sociology for my second choice, but the intro to sociology class totally killed me this year! I got a B (the only B ERGHH!), and the professor was fantastic, but never again will I take a Sociology class; it’s just not for me lol, but very interesting stuff you learn and worth taking at least once in college. Seriously opens your mind. I didn’t like the whole family sociology portion, but the race/ethnicity/education definitely intrigued me. I’d love to learn more about that subtopic.

@djPSU
I hear ya, my spring semester is going to just about kill whatever little social life I had left haha I was forced to take on a very rigorous fall/spring class load due to a
major change. I was previously a biochemistry major but sort of had a moment of clarity over this last summer…and
realized that’s not what I really wanted to do. Sorry I couldn’t help but notice your conversation above, you’ll do fine in chem. :slight_smile: I just finished my last semester of organic chem…and I’ll tell you, it couldn’t have come faster. Haha

Djpsu2015: oh no! My B grade this semester was in College Algebra. It was such a blessing because all the col alg classes this year were online so I really struggled =_=. Thankfully I’m told upper maths are in person. Let’s hope the Math dept at my school doesn’t get any bright ideas and change anything.

I haven’t yet found an area of Sociology I truly like but I think family would be up there haha. Racial dynamics would be a cloooose second :). But honestly, as long as I’m helping people, I’m happy :).

@Bandit1990: omg! My friend was in it but since he is a near genius it was a breeze for him. How did you fare in the class?

@gousc92

I came out with a B unfortunately :/. I’m very mathematical which might have been the problem, organic chem was much more conceptual, as opposed to my prior chem classes which were almost all entirely applied algebra. I did just find out today I got an A in my multivariable calculus class though…I was ecstatic! One more calc class and I’m finished with this dreaded calc series haha what’s your class load looking like in the spring?

^A in Calculus?! Teach me! Lol and honestly besides my chem and precalc (terrrified for this class) courses, i have a very easy schedule. I was toying with overloading on languages (German in conjunction with Italian or Japanese) so I can really be busy and challenge myself, but I figured that would be frivolous because it wouldn’t get rid of any extra SC requirements :/.

How about yours?

To be honest, I was a little surprised myself! Haha fortunately for me my final replaced my lowest exam score. I’m sure you’ll do great in precalc, it’s really no biggie :wink: how about we exchange help, I’m contemplating taking my 2nd semester of German. My first semester was horrid, languages are not my strong point haha I’ve pushed the spring semester to the back of my mind, I have to take anatomy, physiology, descriptive physics, and linear algebra. :0 I’ve been told by my counselor and others to not take so many strenuous classes, but I figured I need to be ready for a university level course load. Well assuming I get in of course haha how’s your application coming along?

@bandit1990: of course! I would definitely love to! German was fairly easy, but my right brain has always been stronger than my left one. :slight_smile: if you do take German, be sure to get your pronounciation down immediately. Its very different from English and tbh, your throat might hurt a little after, but its fairly easy to master. :slight_smile: yeah that schedule is definitely heavy but i say try it once. If it’s too much for you, then youve learned about yourself, then, no?

And my app is actually going great lol. Ive finally gotten a clear vision on how i want to present myself so I’m excited about that. How about yours?

So now the question is, are you located in the northern California area :slight_smile: haha perhaps I didn’t go into the class with the right mindset, I had originally wanted to take French but my community college only offered German and
spanish, and I speak Spanish, so German it was haha Your absolutely right. The schedule itself is as much as a learning opportunity as the classes themselves. It will certainly keep me busy haha

I got quite a bit done today. I had a moment of panic when I thought I needed to submit those evaluation forms. But found out transfer students don’t need to. My essay is going to be centered around a particular event in my life, as I’m hoping it will make them give my app a second look. So you finished your entire essay? :)

Sorry if this has been answered already, but about these schools forms…do those have to also be submitted by February 1st? Second semester doesn’t start for me until Jan. 23, so I wouldn’t have much time do this…should they be postmarked by Feb 1st? This is the first school I’m applying to for transfer and am a bit confused on the process. Thanks for all your help. :)

@danielise Most schools, including USC, do not require transfers to fill out the school forms. This is for high school students.

I mean with transcripts and such too. And I know LOR are optional, but I’m sending them anyway. Should EVERYTHING be in by Feb 1st - or rather does it HAVE to be?

I am trying to transfer too. I currently at CSUF. Which is a good school. But I’m not satisfied. I’m working my butt off to go to USC. I currently have a 3.85. And I am doing an online class I expect to do well in so I hope that helps me. Raise it more. I haven’t taken a English. If I get in I’ll take it during the summer.

But On the transfer application does it even ask for your College GPA? Am I missing that? It only asked me for my secondary GPA and class rank.

I know thAt with the UCs, you apply in the fall and your receive acceptance in the fall and are asked to maintain your gpa. Does it work the same way at SC?

^^ UC’s do not send out acceptance letters until late March/April. Maybe you are thinking of the TAG program? Even with that program though you are not sent an official acceptance letter until the spring. USC sends out their letters of acceptance in June.

So do your spring grades play a factor in USC’s decision, or have they made up their mind before then?
