hi guys, i’m actually a california-resident who’s studying abroad as a full-time student in South Korea. i’m looking to transfer into USC majoring in international relations by my junior year. the thing is, i noticed on the USC transfer brochure that only 2% of the transfer students came from international colleges. does usc give priority to community colleges, then in-state colleges, then out-of-state colleges, and then international colleges? What’s the reason for the low percentage with international colleges? Thanks

Hi guys:
I just did a terrible thing…
I didn’t sleep last night and I am super tired today, 10 minutes ago I sent USC an email to ask them whether they have received my college transcripts. The title of the email was “Hi dead admission officer”!! I immediatel apologized because I wanted say “hi dear admission officer”, it was such a terrible typo!!! Will it affect my application? I apologized immediately but I am still very worried!

i think theyll understand that it was an honest mistake. they probably won’t even see it until next week anyways.

also anyone know where we could check our application status or if we can at all? i noticed on last years thread a bunch of people were updating what their statuses were.

^USconnect.com

is this the status everyone has (if all their stuff has been submitted)?

The University of Southern California is pleased to offer the ability of students to receive online messages regarding the status of their application. However, all decision notifications are made via postal mail.

We have received your Common Application and USC Supplement, and it appears we require no additional information at this time. We will be reviewing applications through the month of March, and we expect to be able to meet our commitment to notify transfers by June 1st. Sometimes, in the course of our review of applications, we find that we need additional information. In such cases we will mail a written request. If you receive a request for more information, please respond promptly. In some cases we need to review final, spring term grades. If we request these of you, we will provide specific instructions on how to submit your spring grades to ensure speedy handling. In these cases, we make our final decisions later, typically by mid-July.

i noticed last years peoples statuses would change to like “being reviewed by committee” etc. so does that mean our apps havent even started being reviewed yet? hmmmm…

@yumenonaka: Oh my god, I’ve never laughed so hard on CC before. LOL!

I’m 100 percent sure that you’ll be fine. D and R are very close on the keyboard; I know they’ll understand that it was an honest mistake.

@ilovescience: Yeah, it’s way too early in the game. I’d say probably later March/early April, we’ll start to see a few people get status changes. Then the majority of decisions will come in May-July.

mike - just emailed my counselor every now and then and that’s it. just maintain a 3.7+ and you should be good to go. even if you get below that like i did, i’m sure you’ll still have a decent shot. what i found out is that it is definitely a lot easier to transfer in from college than it was to get accepted straight out of high school.

@james,

I’m pretty sure I’ll be getting a 3.6- or so this semester. Ergh. My precious 3.7 will drop…gurrr. Whatever.

So is it pretty much guaranteed that second year UC transfers will be notified later, even during the summer? what if you qualify for the merit scholarship… does anyone know if there is a chance we will find out sooner?

they cant really evaluate you without 30 units taken. so if you’re a first year at a uc applying to sc you wont be hearing back until july at the earliest.

@ james

what did u email your counselor about?/i dont want to come off as bothersome to them

@jamesbball911
Do we qualify for merit scholarships if we have over 30 units but one of the requirements to be completed is still in progress? Do they go off of what GPA we have now?

does that also mean anyone with less than 30 units doesn’t qualify for merit scholarships…do ap credits count?

ilovescience - well my Trojan Transfer Plan counselor set up classes that I should take so whenever it was time to sign up for classes, I always gave her a call and updated her on what was going on and what I was planning on doing. Towards the end of it, she knew my voice without me having to mention my name.

krystle and soooos - not sure how the merit scholarships work. You’d have to call admissions about that.

Does anybody know when you will be aware of the final decision if they request Spring grades?

Could you explain why UC first year transfers wouldn’t be notified until July?

^^ because finals don’t end until mid june. you won’t get your grades/transcript until june 20ish and then once you send it in, they have to review it which takes about another week or so. From there, they send your decision which would be around early July.

Yeah, I guess that would be true for semester students, but Quarter students will have sent in First and Second quarter grades by then. They might ask for your Spring quarter grades, but they don’t necessarily have to, do they?

Hi everyone,

I haven’t posted in this thread, but have been following since about January.

I completed my application and submitted on time, but I was curious to know if anyone here knew what we needed to do and how soon, to get dorm housing? Also, are the USC apartments different from the dorms?

@jamesbball:

Did you send in your winter quarter grades after winter quarter or did you just wait and send in winter and spring at the end of the year?
