Official USC 2012 Transfer Thread

I believe (I have to go back and read the transfer guide) but you’ll only be able to transfer a max of 64 credits or two year’s worth of work. I’m not sure if they give you elective credit after 64.

Plus, it’s better to have more than 64 when you apply because everything is not going to transfer over to USC. For example, I had to complete this computer literacy requirement and I chose to take a QuickBooks course to complete it. I’m positive those 3 credits will not transfer over.

I found USC’s tuition rate is kinda tricky. 12-18 credits are of the same rate but most courses are 4 credits (Does that mean the corresponding three-credit courses taken in my institution will transfer 4 credits to USC??). So if you take five courses per semester, which is very usual for those who have a double/minor major, it costs you around another $2500.

@Mit Yes, I read it again.
"Transfer Unit Limitations

A student may earn a maximum of 64 units of credit toward a bachelor’s degree from other accredited institutions. The B.Arch. degree and the Engineering “3-2” Program allow a maximum of 80 units of transfer credit, of which a maximum of 70 may be from two-year colleges. Students will receive only subject credit for work completed in excess of the unit limitations.

After completion of 64 college-level units applicable to the undergraduate degree, no more than 8 additional units may be allowed for transfer credit. In the case of the B.Arch. degree, no more than 8 additional units may be allowed for transfer credit after completion of 84 college-level units. "

Quick question about FA: How much does USC really meet your needs (I notice the site says 100%)? My family is…not in a very good position right now and the only way I get to go to USC is if it’s cheaper than my current university. And when I mean “not in a good position,” I mean that both my parents are in different states working with their own families to earn money and we just sold our house to pay off debt and my sister’s college fees (our family is broken up and all over the place). I believe when I was filling out the FAFSA, we got only got $11,000-12,000 – and these were donations my grandfather was giving us to live off of. Also, fyi, I’m only going to a university because my wealthy grandparents said they will help me out for college, thankfully. I have a good gpa of 3.7 at Penn State and it might stay at 3.7 or drop to a 3.69 or so since I might finish off with a 3.6. Is this gpa the kind that gets transfer students good aid? Yeah, I know I probably shouldn’t be asking this to complete strangers, let alone tell my financial problems…

^DJpsu2015:TBH, I think you will be a very good position financial wise. USC aid tends tp favors those who are really struggling, which really sucks for students like me. -_-. But anyways, all you can really do is wait for their financial package, because everything anyone says on here is just based on personal observations/experience. Nothing is guaranteed.

@gousc92,

That’s probably the best option to wait it out. Ugh the anticipation kills me! I would love to go to USC if I got in, but my grandparents and parents just all had a serious talk about money and I decided that I wont go if I’m going to be in debt of over $30,000 with loans after four years. I might still consider going as long as I’m not over 50,000 <<<that’s the really scary borderline for me LOL. I’m just going to hope for the best.

@DJpsu2015: You’ll be fine, I’m sure. And if the aid they give you is terrible, you can very easily appeal for a better package. :)

I just wish it didn’t take so long to hear back from SC! I try to keep my mind on other things, but it’s so hard to. Argh! Darn them, lol.

I heard people start slowly hearing back in April and that usually those with less than 30 credits get the Spring Transcript Request. I just hope I don’t get that because that’s going to be annoying! I’m going to be also taking summer classes assuming that I stay here, so I’ll be at 38 credits technically. Please, please I hope I don’t receive that request lol. I just need to know sooner because then I don’t need to take those classes haha. I’ll definitely attempt an appeal…might as well give it an extra shot. :/

^ i know what you mean. I really don’t want to get a Spring Grade Request because that’ll furthur complicate things with my school. I can’t afford summer classes since I pretty much pay my tuition out of pocket, so after this short semester, I’m leaving, lol. It would be great to have a decision by then.

And then, there’s the added burden of housing to worry about. Sigh, lol.

Are my chances good with a 3.3 gpa, business major?

^^ if you’re from a community college, with a 3.3 your chances are slim to none unless you have amazing extra curriculars.

You guys are lucky!! I will have to pay $50,000+ anyway if admitted. As an international student, I only wish they could give me the little merit scholarship based on my GPA.

^Jeremystory: I’ve always been curious as to how international students can afford attending USC. Will you be taking out loans or will your family finance your education?

Dude, USC is just as expensive as most other top50 American universities for international students. I also have to pay $50,000+ in my current institution. Yes, I totally depend on my family since international students are not allowed to work off-campus.

^ Wow. That’s bananas. I didn’t know it was the same all around. :</p>

@Jeremy, that is just crazy! Do you currently attend a school here in the states?

Question. I know this is random I received a Letter of Recommendation from a United States Ambassador who graduated from USC. Do you think this will weigh heavily towards acceptence? I am still a little nervous if I will be accepted as I am not the strongest gpa wise. I also have “life” experiences being Active Duty in the Marines. Arrrg I rather just peel the bandoff and know if I’ve been accepted or rejected. This waiting is so irksome.

Hey fellow transfers! So I have a question or two to ask and was wondering if I could get some responses :)

So first question,
Just recently I was able to read over one of my recommendation letters that my counselor had done for me. Anyways, while reading I noticed there was one sentence where she mentions me but calls me by a different name(The sentence goes along the line of “Bob is a hard working student that always strives for detail and perfection” except that my name is not Bob). I’m guessing she got me confused with some other student while writing the letter, or maybe she was talking to someone with that name. Regardless, I was wondering what USC would think while reading the letter; I image they’re going to be somewhat perplexed to see a name of someone else that isn’t on the application o_o

Second Question,
So from what I’m reading from this thread, if you have more than 30 units, then generally they don’t ask for a S.G.R. right? I have 60, and having to not worry about the SGR would relieve so much stress for me.

Also, I was curious if I could get a quick chancing. I literally feel like my chances for admissions are on the fence as of right now and it’s slowly killing me inside.

GPA: 3.71~3.79
EC’s: CC’s Honors Society, Science Camp Cabin Leader x3, Volunteer Service, some other high school E.C.'s

I’m applying to USC’s school of architecture

@jeremystory
totally feel you man. I’m hoping they’ll give me a scholarship too… Otherwise I’ll feel damn guilty if my parents have to fork out the full fees.

I realised I didn’t tick the box asking whether I was applying for merit scholarships. Does that mean I’m not going to be considered at all?

Hey guys I’m going to be a sophomore next fall and I applied for transfer to Viterbi… what’s generally the acceptance rate for sophomore transfers/viterbi transfers??

And will they also ask for a spring transcript?
