Official USC 2012 Transfer Thread

@Laurz14 USC is sort of a reach for me because I have 3.6. I applied at CSU Fullerton, Fresno, and Northridge as well. I got into all of them and if I dont get into USC then im going to Fullerton.

@Ngarcia3 why not UCs, if you don’t mind me asking.

@encgdr Im from Fresno and am not interested in moving to any other location other than Los Angeles. I was going to apply to UCLA but they dont really have a business major and my GPA is not good enough anyways. I really wanted to do something along the lines of entertainment business and Fullerton has an Entertainment Management major with a good advisory board and internship list. Fullerton was my first choice just because I thought I could never afford USC. It turns out they offer a lot of financial aid so I thought I would give it a chance and apply.

@bandit1990 haha that’s definitely a good point though :slight_smile: i’m at a small university on the east coast. and yep thankfully done with a&p 1 and 2, good luck with them they certainly are draining! i’m taking kines right now with abnormal psych and they’re not too easy either. congrats on your 2 acceptances already! i heard San Jose’s OT program was difficult to get into, so congrats! :D

@Ngarcia3 congrats on your acceptances too! i thought the average gpa was around 3.7, so you should be fine! what did you say your major was? and will you be a junior as well?

@Laurz14
Ahh kenisiolgy, when my sister went through OT school, she said it was the most difficult class in the entire program. :0 I love my abnormal psych class this semester
haha Thanks a lot! Yeah they are officially an impacted
major at SJSU so it’s super competitive. I’ve accumulated a
lot of volunteer hours with a licensed OT so I’m assuming
that helped with my acceptance. My sister is pressuring me
to go there regardless of if I get into USC or not because
she doesn’t want me to be in debt like her, but I’m hoping for a little help from USC. :slight_smile: have you thought at all about what area of OT you’d like to pursue after school?

Haha omg I can’t help but point how similar many of our goals are through these previous posts. I hope to get into Annenberg to major in Communication (with the entertainment industry track) and then pair it with the Public Policy major and minor in Cinematic Arts. My dream job is definitely work in the media, hopefully film/tv business.

@Laurz14, welcome to the amazing USC thread! Yay! I’m happy you’re from PA! I go to PSU and despite my love for this school, I miss the west coast so, so much. Plus, USC has the small school feel to it even though it’s quite large, but it’s not as a big as PSU, which is another reason why I want to leave this place. Hope we both get in!! :)

Have any of you decided not apply to any UCs because of your current low transfer credits? I wished I could’ve applied to more schools in California such as UCB. UCLA, and UCSB, but it’s too bad they make us have 60 transferable credits before we apply. But I’m praying to god I get into USC. I’ve worked so hard after a not-so-hot performance in high school. Please, let us ALL get in!!!

@DJpsu2015: Yes! Haha, if I had the credits, I would’ve applied to UCSB and UCSC as well. Not a big fan of that other school across LA so USC would’ve been my only LA choice. I’m just anxious to get back home; cannot stand Arizona at all!

@gousc,

Dude, I feel you. I’m loving the big change on the east coast, but I cannot see myself working here post-graduation. Plus, the only other school similar to USC is NYU and that place is EXPENSIVE $$ and barely gives out any aid whatsoever. One of my friends who turned down NYU only got about $5,500 from fafsa in LOANS. The weather here is dreadful for the most part, but spring is actually beautiful. I miss Washington’s neutral weather, and I just want to be in the sun constantly. Seasons are pretty overrated imo.

@DJpsu2015:

OMG, I know! I literally had that same feeling like yesterday after I left class because my teacher was talking about the alumni association here. I was like, I really cannot see myself here after graduation. Oh my god, that’s terrible! I figured that as a private NYU would be throwing out grants and scholarships left and right. The weather is just HOT like always haha, but I’ve lucked out this spring because it’s been rarely about 80 thus far. :).

Also, I’m strongly considering graduate school after my undergrad, but my school isn’t really reputable. I figure I’d get a far more superior education and more opportunities for research at USC. Plus, they have the JEP program, which I’m absolutely nuts about! I also found out it was the oldest program of its type in the country while stalking the homepage lol.

Why can’t it be May already -_-!

@luarz14 Thanks! My major is Business Administration and I am transferring as a junior.

@DJpsu2015 I definitely want to get into media and entertainment too. The reason why I love USC is that you can focus on your major but then mix in other classes as well and really personalize your experience. Also the internships some of the past students have gotten KICK ASS! haha

@gousc,

Oh, my god. I keep stalking the USC webpage, too! It’s just so pretty, though hahahaha. I’ve been obsessing over the PPD site and the major is really interesting me to the point I want to pair with Comm if I go get into Annenberg. It’s good that you’re planning ahead and thinking about grad school; I thought about going but I want to avoid it if possible lol. I’m know USC is a great school to make connections while getting a great education, so I hope that I wont have to think about grad school when I graduate, but I guess it’s always an option since I plan to keep my gpa high.

I went to one of those career fairs and listened to the PSU alumni association organizer boast about how big the network is, but it’s definitely for the east coast for the most part. I can totally see myself working in all parts of California, I just fell in love with that place after I visited last summer. I also know that the jobs I’m looking for are all in California. I’m totally dreading finishing off this semester. Spring break just ended for me and I’ll be going back to the same 'ol routine back at good 'ol PA. I also signed up for summer courses since I plan to major in Business if I stay here, so if I get into USC, I can cancel the registration lol! I DO NOT WANT TO TAKE THE SUMMER CLASSES!!! I’m counting on hearing back sometime in April hopefully!!!

Edit:

@Ngarcia3,

I LOVE the internship opportunities that the USC career fair holds; I’d honestly be satisfied with almost all of them. That’s what really drives me to get into the school: the fact that you can have a flexible schedule and make connections through the other schools even though you’re not majoring in it. There’s just so many opportunities for people who have interest in that specific field of business. Hope we get in!!

I would be satisfied with any of the entertainment related internships as well! I wish we can just fast forward 2 months to see what happens with our admissions. lol

I go to LA so often because my family is obsessed with American Idol and we go to the tapings every season and I still havent toured the campus. I dont want to do the tour either because im afraid to fall in love with it even more and not get in.

Ahh, yes. That would be terrible if I got rejected after hyping myself up for the school LOL. Major rejection there. But I always keep in mind that nothing’s a guarantee. Even a high gpa student can get rejected based off of previous year’s decision thread, so I always keep in mind not to get too attached.

I mean, if I don’t get in, I wont be too upset about it because I gave it a shot.

Heres hoping 2 months from now were looking for apartments in LA! At least I better know before May! I dont want to find out in July or anything too crazy because I actually want to ENJOY my summer lol

@DJ: I know right? I absolutely love the layout! I swear, I go to USC’s site all the time. I think I go more than my own school’s webpage, lol. But I can’t help it, it’s like muscle memory at this point. Yeah, Annenburg is such a good school that I’m sure you won’t even need grad school. BTW, I’m sure you’ve answered this but how many credits have you completed? It’s kinda hard to keep track of everyone on here.

I know what you mean. I am so used to California since I am a native. I just feel like I belong stuck in traffic on the 405 during morning rush hour or something lol. OMG, Spring Break starts like on the 19th. I swear, I cannot stand waiting anymore lol. After this week, I either have a choice of staying here and studying my brains out or going back home. I think I’ll just do the good student thing and study it out for that week since I want to keep my grades impeccable JIC I get a dreaded SGR. -_-

I’m only really preparing for it to be May because if I get it sooner, it’ll be more of a surprise. Whereas, if I think I’ll get it later this month and I don’t, I’ll freak myself out even further lol. Just my way of relieving stress lol.

@Ngarcia3: I haven’t toured the campus either! I was considering doing a tour there, but I don’t know. I’m hesitating for the exact reasons you’ve stated.

@gousc, this thread gets SWAMPED at times! One minute I’m on track of the page number, the next it has jumped 3 pages haha! I had 16 credits applying and will have a completed another 16, so 32 by the time I enroll at USC. I also just signed up for summer classes, so I’ll technically have 39, if continue to take them, which I wont if end up going to USC. So, 32 is the safe number.

The people here are so big on the public transportation, but to be honest, I don’t give a crap about catching the subway because I like driving my car! I miss blasting music with windows rolled down on a nice sunny day. Oh, those good old days. The one thing I’m slightly worried about is keeping my grades high. I mean, I’m not going to do terrible, but I just hope I get at least a 3.7 so I can keep my gpa the same. I might end up finishing up with a 3.6, or at 3.8 if I get lucky. Nevertheless, my gpa of 3.73 might drop to a 3.6-something, but I hope that wont be a big deal if I get the SGR. Maybe I’m just being paranoid…

I’ll actually be happy with an SGR because most people have gotten in after they sent in their transcripts for Spring. Do you think if my gpa drops below the 3.7 mark, they will frown upon me? Gosh, why am i always paranoid about things like these!!! Gahh! lol…

Edit: I didn’t tour the campus with those tour groups, but I walked around when I was in LA last summer and it is such a beautiful, quintessential campus. I loved it. Spanish architectures, palm trees and lots of green, and large but not overwhelmingly large campus size.

Btw, gousc, are you from LA?

@DJ: LOL! I actually love public transportation. I guess because I really hate driving. I hate it so much I haven’t even gotten my license, much to the chagrin of my father lol. And I’m also just not a good driver since I’m in my own world 99 percent of the time. But yeah, I know what you mean. I’m in Chem right now and although I love the subject, I am DYING academically! Just took a killer test last week and I’m praying that he curves the hell out of it. I just know I did bad. -_-. I’m also in Precalc which is a nightmare lol. I’m just annoyed that I couldn’t take French this semester like I wanted. I’m in German now, but I wanted to take French as well, just for personal fulfillment. I don’t know, I just love foreign languages. My brain gets lost with numbers, though.

And I don’t think they will, especially if it’s a slight drop, lol. But I totally get where you’re coming from, I’m the same way. :D

Yes! I was born in Los Angeles. Both of my parents went to USC and UCLA, so you can imagine how…interesting…my high school life was, lol.

I think if I do get in, I’d do just a tour group, just because I wasn’t really able to participate in the whole integration to college thing at my current school due to time constraints. I literally moved in and was thrown a map and told to be on my way. Still kinda bitter about that, tbh. I’m completely avoiding that this year if I get in!

@gousc,

I am so jealous that many of you guys are going on spring break right about now! I really wish I could’ve endured through another week of school in exchange to have spring break at a later time. Now…we have to suffer longer until the end of semester ><

Man, I am pretty much done with my languages lol. I cannot take another Spanish class or I think I will go berserk! But I’ve been thinking about studying abroad and Spain sounds like a cool place; I’ll definitely look into that if I go USC, as well.

Moving in last semester was kind of crazy for me because it was the first time I left the west coast. It was partly due to poor planning by me and my parents, so we ended up moving in really late like two days before classes began and I still didn’t have everything here halfway across the country! It was kind of a stressful time period since the weather was disgustingly humid and my parents pretty much bickered through the whole journey. I hate moving. Ugh. I was fortunate enough to do the tour with the groups here, but no way did we get to explore the entire campus in one day. I’m pretty used to the campus layout by now, but this place is just freaking gigantic! It’s a like a town within a town.

Is any one also applying to the school of engineering? I’m extremely nervous about it…

@Ajuan17 I’m applying for engineering and am extremely nervous too lol I feel your pain
