Official USC 2012 Transfer Thread

Is it a requirement to complete the Financial Aid Form for USC for them to evaluate your application??

hmmmm i wouldnt think so. admissions officers dont look at anything regarding financial aid when they look at our applications

Quick q:

My dad just resubmitted the new tax forms on fafsa. Would that be good or should I upload onto usconnect so they can see it? Or will they see it without me uploading the updated version? Sorry, hope that made somewhat sense.

Pretty intense convo going on here…

How do I compare? I visited today, meeting with admissions, student ambassador and sitting in on a class. I am a sophomore (transferring as a junior for Fall 2012). Local community college with 70 credits. Applying Marshall Bus and Sol Price PPD, interested in the Real Estate Development Program/Dual Major. Avg GPA 3.4. All prereqs completed. Letter of rec from recent graduate and local businessman. Strong leadership/activities. Strong essays.

Thanks.

Good luck to everyone on getting into USC!
And for quarter system students, good luck on your finals this week! :)

It’s been noted this year has been a slow one in terms of post to the thread.

Freshman decisions are almost out but I am positive the thread will see an influx of posters who did not get accepted and are looking for transfer advice.

@mazemaker,

GPA is a bit low but hopefully you show an upward trend. The letter of rec and extra circs are definitely a good things though.
Good Luck!

has anyone’s status on USConnet changed?

MitchAPalooza- lol hopefully most of the Freshman get in.

Another reason why this thread is a little slower is because nothing exciting has happened in the last month. This time last year people were going crazy about the status updates and usconnect going down.

@dream

None here. Someone did post their friend (Soc major) had the “reviewing” status.

It definitely is weird that this thread is going so slowly when you look at last year’s. I wonder if this year is strange for not having a lot of posts, or if last year was weird for having so many. My possible three-part theory on why the thread isn’t picking up is:

a) Due to the intense amount of posts on last year’s thread, many of the questions that would’ve been asked and debated on this thread were already asked and debated on last year’s, so prospective transfer’s are just going to last year’s thread (almost giving it immortal significance, haha)

b) There seems to be a formality to this year’s thread that wasn’t present on last year’s. If you go through the posts on 2011’s, it’s a lot more of a laid-back and friendly, shooting-the-breeze kind of atmosphere. Here it seems to be mostly all business.

c) The potential influence of the Common App this year. After all, it’s the only tangible difference from this year’s applications with last year’s. The Common App not only reduces the amount of things to talk about due to it’s by-the-book, bland application essays/requirements (at least for transfers, discounting supplements), but also is something most, if not all, of us have done before, which sort of ties in to “a” with the reduced amount of application questions.

Just a hypothesis haha.

i wonder why everything for us is happening so much later too… a lot of people ahd “under review” for their statuses around this time

@teddy

In depth analysis right there. I agree with points B & C though. Not sure about A since I’ve seen threads where question X is answered in the page yet someone still asks.

and does anyone know when freshmen decisions come out? april 1?

^ I was skimming through the USC general thread and it seems some have not received their decisions. I posted this response:

I believe all those who are waiting are rejections based on the lateness of the notification. Most schools will want to notify their accepted applicants by April 1 following the trend with other schools. Just a guess.

so i just realized that if they send my letter in April then I won’t be able to open it till I go back home which will be in May. But knowing my mom she’ll probably open it for me and then call me to tell me if i got in or not. is anyone in the same boat?

for all of you guys anxiously waiting, just know that i received my acceptance package in Late may!! if you have any questions, feel free to message me :slight_smile: i was one of you guys last year and i know how anxious you all must be

L0vebug- How do you like USC? Has it exceeded your expectations and is it easy for a transfer to make friends even if they dont do the whole greek life scene?

@L0vebug
hey what is ur major and how do u like it? Also do u have any advice to transfers their first year there?

Hey guys, i LOVE IT HERE!

honestly, my best advice to to GET INVOLVED, and go to every event and meet new people. Also, your best friends will be transfer students because we are so supportive of each other. During orientation all of us transfers met up and hung out and are the best of friends. The USC atmosphere is amazing and teachers are sooooo supportive. My major is Occupational therapy :slight_smile:

My experience has exceeded my expectation. you will come to feel the trojan spirit and have so much trojan pride, i promise. So many transfers that i am friends with rejected IVY LEAGUES to go here and they have no regrets. And so many people came to USC iffy and stereotypes, but now that they’re here, they think its amazing! There’s sooooo many opportunities!

Making friends for me was pretty easy because us transfer students actually hung out and stuck together. I definitely didn’t feel the need the join sorority to make friends :slight_smile: Most guys do because they want to get into frat parties.
