first choice major business, second choice planning policy and design

College confidential just urged me to join in the conversation because I haven’t done so in several weeks, so here I am haha how about this wait! I’m figuring it will be at least another month before the majority of us start hearing back right. Anyone break any ground with time travel?

@sportsfan1234 Don’t speak too soon. I said the same thing and I did not end up getting the grades I said I would. If I were you I would personally go to community college and transfer after a year, it is a more sure fire way. I have actually left UCR and am now at CC regretting my past decision…

CCs are not a walk in the park. Especially as a freshman because you have a hard time getting classes and you end up with the most difficult teachers.

Does anyone know if it’s okay to finish the English requirement this spring? I’m a sophomore applicant.

Any estimates on how many applied this year after switching to common app?

so the consolers that correspond to your region they are the one’s that look over your application? i thought it was the different colleges within USC that you applied to that looked at them. probably a combination of the two.

@bearterritory3: Yes that should be ok. I’m in the same position, but I knew someone who transferred as a junior who took their second semester writing requirement in spring. I don’t know if being a junior had anything to do with that though, but it’s not a deal-breaker (plus any sophomore applicant would have to have the writing requirement in-progress anyway, right? Unless they somehow took Writing 101 and 102 in one semester…?)

@BlackRose21: I’d imagine they all look over most applications. It said in the confirmation letter I got for USC receiving my application that they have “rigorous debate” over certain applications, so I’d assume at least more than one of them is looking over each app. And the “individual colleges” I think only look over applications they get from the admission counselors. I’ve heard that you get accepted to USC as a whole first (at least for freshman and sophomore applicants) THEN you’re accepted in an individual college that you applied to (if you’re accepted to USC as a whole, but rejected from specific colleges, you’re apparently put as “undecided.”) I think your regional advisor is only really there for specific help/questions on the transfer process, what the best way is to go about it, etc. That way students get to have real answers (instead of the hearsay that trickles down the line to average phone operators, which we all know are usually of little help) and the admin’s aren’t flooded with disorganizing calls.

@teddy

I"m using my AP score to skip the 1st semester. What is their policy on W’s? I know they don’t like them, but I only have 1 and I think I heard the lady at the transfer information session say that 1 wasn’t a big deal. Anyone have anymore info on their W policy?

Plus that W took me from 30 semester units to 27. I don’t think I even need to explain that one ahhah.

So here is the post on the backdoor links. PLEASE read the thread if you have any questions as most of your questions will be answered on there. Plus, I doubt they will work for anyone since it is very early with no one receiving status updates yet.

@bearterritory3: I did the same thing, and the person I know did too. When I spoke to my regional advisor he said it wasn’t a problem and encouraged me to use the AP credits to get out of the first semester when I asked if I should. I don’t know their policy on W’s, I assume that kind of thing would be taken into account within the context of the applicant (i.e. if you played a crucial role in the development of stem cell research in the 21st century, 2 W’s probably won’t matter; whereas if you’re a fringe candidate they’ll probably come more into consideration).

So one of my letters of Rec came from a USC film alumni. He went years ago though. Think that’ll help my application out? I also submitted what I believe to be a solid short film.

I really hope I get into sca.

@Mitch

Thanks for that. The third link comes up with a message saying: ‘This site is not open to public access’ so I imagine that they haven’t opened that portal up yet. Do you get that message too?

I have received the same message. I would hope that it opens this week as USC’s twitter account mentioned that transfer applicants should watch their mailboxes for decisions.

@corrupt theory:
oh really! kind of getting excited now. hope i’m home when the letter comes.

@mitch:
thanks for the post! i remember that when i was applying to FSU in high school they had the same thing with the whole backdoor thing.

FINALLY!
“We have received your Common Application and USC Supplement, and it appears we require no additional information at this time. We will be reviewing applications through the month of March, and we expect to be able to meet our commitment to notify transfers by June 1st.”

Its nice to see an update :)

Hey guys,

@Ngarcia3
Wait did your status just change? I’ve had that status for quite some time now.

@CorruptTheory Yes, it just changed today. I knew that they had everything because I called earlier this month but for some reason they barely updated it.
