Official USC 2013 Transfer Thread

I’ve always had the June 1st status

@usctranser haha mine was blocked for awhile too. took me some time to figure it out

Mine at one point said June 3rd, now it says June 1st too.

Mine never has said 3rd. Been the same for months now. Lol probably haven’t even seen my app.

There’s only a two day difference, so I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. The USC Admission’s twitter account tweeted someone about a June 1st notification, but then they later corrected it to June 3rd.

My rejection letter from last year is dated June 2nd.

Man, I hope I don’t get another one of these this year. :P

Will we know when our application will be under review ? Or will the same message of “we will be reviewing applications through the month of May blah blah blah”

@smalone3d what do the rejection letters say? out of curiosity? do they give you a reason?

@jr2013

no specific reason for my case on the letter, pretty much a generic “it was very competitive this year, we only offered admission to 2400 students out of 8100 applicants, etc”. I just contacted the department I applied to directly to get a reason why. (it was due to only having 3 spots last year)

hopefully this year it will be a different story.

What department are you applying for?

@smalone3d, only 3 spots?! Guessing you applied for animation last year too? Geez, I knew there’d only be a few spots but I imagined like 15-20. :(

Yeah, it did change from June 3rd to June 1st. That’s a plus for me, since it means I can avoid eating a $250 deposit if they notify me before then.

If USC wants to reject me, it’ll allow me a good night or two of heavy drinking before I cut the check for another university as well. Either way, we’re good!

Oh, odd thing. I am a recipient of the MDCAPS grant, which is for Maryland students at a two or four-year Maryland institution. I got an email last night saying my grant was renewed, which is great, but I will be completely ineligible for any funds considering my next stop is a California-based university.

But here’s the interesting thing. When I went in to update my account, it showed me the following information for 2013 - 2014:

… Montgomery College was my two-year school. I never, ever put USC in my account. In fact, it’s impossible (MDCAPS will not let you select out-of-state schools). Not sure how USC showed up and none of the other SoCal-based schools did. Only thing I can fathom is that out-of-state schools can receive funds if it offers a legislative degree (or something’er’other) or a program not offered by any Maryland-based schools. That might be possible at USC and perhaps Financial Aid has utilized MDCAPS before to get transfer students financial aid?

Total mystery. Good omen, maybe?

Hi everyone!

I just got an SGR for USC a few days ago, and was initially really excited because I was under the impression that as long as I keep my 4.0, I have a good chance of being accepted. However, I’m noticing online that quite a lot of transfer applicants get SGR’s…

So, is it a very common thing to get? About what are my chances of acceptance with a 4.0 GPA in honors classes and classes pertaining to my major (IR), plus Greek folk dancing/teaching and working at Nordstrom?

so has anyone heard anything new today?

@animati0n yeah, transfers really get the scraps in the animation department. I’ve heard some years there aren’t even any spots at all for transfers. it’s just all filled up by those who apply right out of high school.

hopefully this year there will be over 3 spots. :P

So some of you have always had “June 3rd” on your app status check? Mine has always said June 1st… or do you mean that today for a little while it was june 3rd and then changed back to June 1st? I just checked mine, still June 1st.

Am I making any sense?

@chloe316, my USConnect has always stated June 1st as well. I haven’t seen it change to June 3rd. But I don’t imagine this change/lack of change has any significance…

^ yeah, mine’s always been June 1st as well…weird.

Also, I was looking through the old thread and the range of GPA’s being accepted seems to be 3.1~4.0 which is pretty huge if you ask me…I think it pretty much means they don’t really discount anybody from getting accepted with a lower GPA…
