Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

Hi everyone, I am bored and have nothing better to do I went through last years transfer tread and found that we are a little early on the SGR’s which is a good thing. Also the first two acceptances came may 1st. Then there was another wave of SGR’s, and finally a bunch of people got acceptances and enrollment deposit boxes may 8!!! That was the second weds of may. So therefore I hope that since we are a little early on SGR’s that we will get acceptances and enrollment boxes a little earlier as well. Hopes this helps some people :)

Just a reminder for people who have heard back from USC (either acceptance, SGR, or rejection) to post on this page so we can get an idea of what our chances are. Thanks!

I guess I’ll just post my stats
SGR’d April 28th. I’m a Dornsife applicant (Neuroscience). I’m currently a freshman so I’d be entering as a sophomore.
GPA : 3.64 (25 credits completed, 16 pending)
I go to Chapman University (4 year private college)
If anyone wants to know anything else let me know!

is anyone applying to Roski? Where my art people at??
I do have a serious question though, if we want to do a double major, do we choose the 2nd major once we’re accepted or was that on the commonapp, because I don’t believe it was…
I know there is a stats forum already, but i’ll post on here for now.
GPA:3.6
units completed at CC: 55 (will transfer into usc at junior level if I get in fingers crossed)
Major choice: Fine Arts (I want to double major in psychology too)
I had a part time job all 3 years in CC so no E.C. But good E.C. in HS
I am actually receiving 2 associates when I graduate from CC this summer and I made note of that in the app, idk if that helps my case -.- (I will also have completed ALL general ed courses for USC)

@Bennyisbanksy‌ There was an option for a 2nd choice major on the common app, but if you want to double major you’ll probably have to talk to your counselor once you get into USC.

This is just a curious question: What would happen if you sent in your Spring Grades to USC even though they didn’t request your Spring grades?

@greengetcko unless you get a SGR, they will probably have made and you will probably have received your decision before they get your grades anyways

how about mid year grades?

Hi, would anyone know why some people have already been accepted? Does it mean they are probably getting a top scholarship? If not, why would USC admit them before all the rest of us?

@greengeck you can submit them if you want. If you get admitted then they have your final transcript, and if you get rejected then it doesn’t really matter. So it wouldn’t hurt. I was planning on sending mine even if I don’t get an SGR. Also, @collegelife213 no that does not mean that. What it means is that admissions thought they were a great fit and were among top applicants so top applicants hear first.

@collegelife213 among the first people to hear a decision are applicants on the Trojan Transfer Plan and students who attend an institution with a partnership or agreement with USC such as Biola. USC has a small preference over these applicants because of the established relationship between the student or the school. It is known, but not official that UC and CSU applicants are reviewed immediately after followed by Out Of State and International applicants.

@xsayax thanks! I thought the 2nd major choice on the app was an alternative, in case the first one you chose was impacted.

Also I think its important to remember that transfer decisions are usually decided AFTER the freshmen class has been established (remember that April 30th deadline last year?). So I think the reason why they’ve sent out the current decisions to some applicants is because the enrollment figures they already have show that some colleges (i.e. Dornsife, etc.) didn’t have a high commitment yield from freshmen admits so if Dornsife, Marshall, etc. are already below enrollment quota, why wait until May to send out transfer acceptances when you can start accepting your most competitive transfer applicants now?

Thank you this makes more sense now. But then it’s fair to assume that those students who have been accepted because they are the most competitive applicants are also more likely to get merit scholarships? So the people who haven’t been accepted already are less likely than they are?

@Bennyisbanksy‌ Yeah, or so if you don’t get into the school of your choice, you might have another chance to get into a different major. There wasn’t specific place to fill out double major stuff, unless you were to specify in the essays you wanted to or something. But I don’t think you need to worry about it at this point :)

@Paguy8‌ we already had one acceptance a few days ago actually! So I think we should see a few more soon!!

Do you guys know if USC would ever accept you for your second choice major if you seemed to get a better grade for the beginner class?
Example: I applied for environ science and health and 2nd choice international relations
I got a better grade for my intro IR class than biology

@wdemasters02 good observation and you have a valid point but I have to agree more with @itzsupermanyo that those students who have been accepted fell into TTP or ‘agreement’ schools. Remember, freshman students do not need to claim a major and a lot are ‘undecided’ still, so it wouldn’t be as easy to see which schools actually have openings in their programs, respectively.

An example is a transfer student who gets accepted as a Junior who doesn’t need to take many GEs or Pre-reqs, if any at all, and can go right into upper division courses when a freshman student still needs them.

If you think of admissions through the lens of ’ lower division class slots available’ to ‘transfer students who still need to take lower division slots,’ I think admission decisions just got a little more tricky. This is the problem at CSUs and UCs that do not want to accept lower division transfers because they simply don’t have the lower division space available.

@anyabel‌ yeah I saw that, but looking from lasr year I feel like a bunch of people will start seeing enrollment deposit boxes or the star audit report by the beginning of next week, but I could be wrong on that!

just got an SGR…
