Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

got the notification this morning and the package this afternoon

Are there any English or Comparative Literature majors in the house? WHERE MY LACK OF FUTURE FINANCIAL SECURITY PEOPLE AT?

And if so, have any of you lovely folks heard anything?

Lastly, does anyone know whether or not they’re going through alphabetical order? Because I have a last name starting with Z. Gotta love it.

@transfersammy‌ I am in the same boat with you from the looks of it on my oasis they haven’t even looked at my application.

Just sent in my SGR!!! And now more waiting, hoping for the best

These are the people that are looking at our applications right now.

http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/firstyear/prospective/counselorprofiles.html</a></p>

I present to the community a haiku to describe my feelings:

[ul]Impatient, I wait
Wishing news would come quickly
This is torturous
[/ul]

Thank you.

@odinhelpme No one knows the actual process but it isn’t alphabetical for sure. My last name is early in the alphabet and there are others who have been accepted or SGRed with last names starting at the end who applied to the same program.

Hi guys. I currently have a 3.43 as a transfer student. I still have a year and summer left of units such as Calculus, Biology, Accounting, etc . I am getting really discouraged ever since I received a C in a 5 unit Pre cal course to apply to USC Marshall since it lowered my gpa tremendously. I know it is a very competitive school. From what I have seen, majority of people have 3.7+. I have taken majority of the core requirements and have received As in them. Also, I have been working at a bookkeeping company for 3 years which I have been told is a good EC since it is relevant to being a bus admin major. I am trying to be realistic about applying to USC. Is there anything I can do to increase my chances or should I give up on my chances of applying?

@rosyme‌ Don’t despair!

First of all, a 3.43 is good! Consider this - The average transfer GPA at USC is 3.6, however, there are MANY 4.0 admits. This means, in theory at least, that there should be just as many 3.2 applicants admitted as 4.0’s!

If USC is something you really want, DO NOT give up!!! You have a whole year ahead of you, make the most of it. Work your ass off. Impress and engage your professors (you’ll need them for letters of rec!). Stay in on nights and weekends instead of going out with friends if that’s what it takes to master the course material. The admissions committee is going to look at grade trends… so make sure yours are trending in the right direction! Prove to them that you have what it takes to FIGHT ON! :)>-

@whosnext I am a communications major! I applied as a junior from an out-of-state CC.

@odinhelpme‌ me! english! got an sgr on friday!

@almxy45 Business Administration!

@dmdwelle I’m not sure where you’re getting your numbers from, but as of last year the official statistics for average transfer GPA was actually a 3.8. You can find this info at the USC transfer webpage.

@StayF1y‌ Thanks for the correction; I realize now that I have the 2013 transfer brochure, which lists Fall 2012 stats. Although, I think maybe we were both incorrect: according to the website, the average transfer GPA is actually 3.7. (http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/transfer/prospective/transferprofile.html</a>).

Anyway… That would put the “normal” admit GPA range around 3.4-4.0, which means @rosyme‌’s 3.43 is still competitive.

Hey guys,

Do any of ya’ll know what USC thinks of classes that are taken pass/no pass? I got an SGR but one of my classes in Spring Quarter is destroying me.

Thank you!!

Got my spring grade request !
Funny I just posted today freaking out about why I hadn’t received anything
Figured this would happen since I’m applying as a freshman

@odinhelpme‌ I’m an English major and was accepted today! Hope you guys all hear good news within the next couple of days as well! :D

Also, I’m new to this whole system, and I was wondering: do they give out decision letters by time zones? I was watching the movie Admission (with Tina Fey and Paul Rudd [I know, I know-- I’m just a big Fey/Rudd fan]) and in one scene they have an admissions team reviewing applications by time zones. It made me think about it because everyone here (in Miami) that applied heard back today. Maybe it’s a combination of the departments that one is applying to and the time zones, I’m not sure lol

Anyway, good luck, guys!!!

ugh sgr. i really really hoped they will send me a definitive decision…i still don’t want to pay a deposit but i guess i have to. this is totally the opposite of what the admin guy told me on the phone that i will find out by the end of may…and i have one b in my class which is not good!! </3 i can’t wait til mid-july. i seriously have headaches everyday since i keep on thinking about usc :expressionless: hey guys do you think 3 a’s and one b is good or bad for my spring grades…the b is in a ge class and it looks like that way right now but i’m gonna push through

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

Please please PLEASE, If you receive an admissions decision (Admitted, Rejected, Spring Grade Request), post your information on the decisions thread!!! It won’t take very long and the rest of us will really appreciate it! Thank you! :)>-

Hi everyone!

I transferred to USC last year from a CCC, currently majoring in occupational therapy. Feel free to ask me any questions about the transition, transfer experience, etc. I know I had a lot of questions before making the decision to transfer to USC, so I’d love to help you guys out in return :)

ALSO, for the accepted students that are looking for housing:
I’m subleasing my spot in an extremely luxurious apartment about a half mile from USC, and it provides a shuttle to and from USC every 15 minutes. This place really helped me to have a great transfer experience, since it offers many weekly events (BBQ, pool parties, game competitions, etc) to meet people throughout the week-- especially since USC doesn’t offer housing designated specifically for transfer students. The majority of the people that live here are USC students (there are a few FIDM and LMU students), and many of the people that I’ve met are transfer students as well. You can see more details of this apartment here: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/roo/4461496682.html</a></p>

I look forward to hearing from you guys!
