Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

@fayano - Yeah! Hadn’t seen anyone else transferring there on this thread. Got a 3.66 GPA my first quarter at UC Davis, probably looking at about the same for this quarter. How do ya think I fare?

@hepburn95 Sweet! What part of Mexico?

@randombookie I think if you have more than 30 hours then you don’t have to

@jch718 To be honest JC, I really can’t say. I don’t know how admissions completes their process. BUT, if I were to go off of last year’s acceptances (on CC that is), I’d say you are in good standing. I’ve seen 3.4’s get admitted (granted, most of them were applying to Viterbi or talent-based schools). And I think you should do what you think is right for you.

@bballprofessor23 As mentioned earlier, people get admitted with lower than the average. I am assuming that LOTS of people get in with 3.6’s given that the average is 3.7. So, all other factors aside, going off of last years admits, you are in good standing.

I’m trying to refrain from saying everyone has a “___ chance” simply because I do not know what kind of chance they have. I only know that based on previous results, one may be in good standing (i.e. have the potential to have a “good chance” → have good/great grades which is something that most schools like to see).

@scahopeful Ensenada!

Oh, cool. That’s near California I think. I wish you well on your travels! Be safe and have fun B-)

@scahopeful Thanks so much, I appreciate it! I hope you have a great SB as well!

@hepburn95 thanks!

Ensenada is so nice…im jealous
Nobody asked lol but I’m spending my spring break over in Cal Poly

@bballprofessor23 I mean based on past admissions decisions for the major on collegeconfidential, it looks solid. Damn, it is just really impossible to stop thinking about these letters coming out.

UCSD notifications just came out…but i wanna hear back from USC lol

So, this is interesting >> http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/transfer/prospective/counselorprofiles.html

Saw it in another thread. It’s cool to know a bit about the person who will (I assume) be advocating for my acceptance/rejection.

I know it’s weird but I imagine the admissions (not just for SC but for colleges in general) process is a lot like it is in the movie “Admission”. I don’t know why but when I imagine it, I think that they have a preliminary thing where they each get (a few thousand or so) students from their area and they recommend some and outright reject some. The ones that are recommended go to the committee for review where a final decision is made. The committee then decides to either SGR or accept a student. And the SGR’s go back to the committee again.

Darn, UCSD’s site is down. Not surprised.

@nmwcorvette Did all of the decisions come out or just some?

Got accepted to UCSD

@basketballer123 Congrats!

Thanks!
If only USC would let us know this early…

@basketballer123 I know! I can log onto UCSD but it doesn’t have a decision yet… I hope that’s not a bad sign!

@scahopeful - Wow that’s interesting! So the person responsible for our area is the person who decides whether our name should go to the big committee?

Hey guys,
So I am a freshman at UC Davis right now and I applied to USC for transfer for Fall 2014.
I have a 3.92 GPA at Davis, a HS GPA of 3.6 (going to a rigorous prep school in LA) and a 2010 SAT. I had a lot of ECs, what would you guys think are my chances?

Congrats on UCSD @basketballer123

@anyabel, no one here can give you a definitive answer. With that being said, your GPA is higher than the average for transfer admits. Therefore, you are in good standing grade-wise. Your high school stats are virtually meaningless unless you have less than 30 units completed at the college level.

@esai23 I’m not sure but if USC does their admissions process that way then you would go through different admissions personnel (starts at your regional counselor) before your application is recommended for acceptance by different counselors or if the recommendation is split. At that point you go to the adcom where all the admissions personnel reviews your application in front of a director of admissions. <<This is just a formula I read for freshmen, take this with a ridiculously small grain of salt.

There are many different formulas that differ from school to school and freshmen to transfers. I know some other school for sure use a different process.

Dear USC Admissions,

This could be us:
