Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

I honestly feel like I could go my whole life without knowing why they extended it, but I don’t feel like I can last another month without knowing if I’m in or out!

When do most decisions come out? I know they said by June but WOW that is a long time

I’m hoping late May, but the official notification date is June 1st.

@randombookie @greengecko They start sending them late April, typically acceptances are sent before rejections, but they also tend to send them in waves by school. For example, Dornsife typically hears first, Marshall typically hears later.

@Randomnookie

I think it is that everyone will know BY June1st, at the latest.

GPA: 3.58.
Units: 78.
Major: Sociology.
Major Prep Work: Completed.
Major GPA: 3.8.
IGETC: Completed.
Degree: Associates in Social Sciences.
“EC”: U.S. ARMY, 4 years.
Applied: USC, UCSB (TAG), ucr, ucb, ucla.
Accepted: ucr.
Pending: USC, UCSB, ucb, ucla.

SC is my first choice so the wait is killer right now. Good luck to all.

According to last year’s thread, Marshall + Dornsife heard first, Annenberg heard last. All the other schools were in between.

I believe I was one of the first waves. Got my decision late april early may for Marshall although I found out I got in before I received the package. P.S. the oasis and backdoor links are bull don’t believe them.

Nothing quite like watching years worth of hard work travel solely on its momentum, judged by its own merit, and waiting to see the result. Good thing is I’m at Dornsife so should be among first, I hope. Any other Sociology majors?

Annenberg hears back last? Darn.

Does USC usually give us our first choice major? i put psych for my first and communication for my second choice.

Really wish there was more Viterbi School folks posting…
I feel alone in this thread with all you business & liberal arts people

@RoysGoin2College
My younger brother is actually waiting for a decision for first-year admission. Do you have any idea how competitive Viterbi is among other engineering schools?

I don’t know but I imagine that with an overall acceptance rate of about 21% that Viterbi is pretty selective.
What’re your brother’s stats?

The acceptance rate for Viterbi freshman stands at between 12% and 15% depending on the year. This year they have had over 10,000 applications and will accept between 1200 and 1500 with an expected yield of around 30%.
I currently have a freshman in Viterbi and he loves it, but is working his bootie off like he never has before. I also have a senior in Cinematic Arts and Annenberg. She is dreading graduation. She never wants to leave! Loves it! Best of luck to all of you!

@RoysGoin2College

My brother’s stats are a bit average I think. 2110 SAT, 800 Math II, 730 Physics, 3.8 GPA (Weighted, his school doesn’t grade UW), solid ECs and essay (IMHO). I was just wondering how selective Viterbi was compared to Dornsife. From what @southerncalimom said, it sounds incredibly selective compared to the other schools. I’m a Marshall applicant and I have no idea about engineering stats and such.

@southerncalimom was your daughter a transfer student? If so, was she able to live in on campus housing with the cinema students?

Apparently freshmen decisions are being released soon (3/29) so maybe transfer applications won’t be under review until around the first week of April? In that case admissions decisions may begin being released later in the first half of the year (<<why didn’t I just say May?)

It seems like every year since USC has been on Common App things are getting released a bit later (likely due to the high volume of applicants). For example, in '12 many people on CC started receiving their acceptances or SGR’s mid to late April. Of course there’s no way I can be sure since I’m currently reading them and no exact dates (other than the occasional acceptance package postmark post) were given. Then in '13 many people on CC started receiving their decisions around late April early May (though supposedly some guy received his around late March). Thanks '13 date posters!

Just to try to put emphasis on how sporadic the process is… a transfer friend of mine received her SGR in late February of last year. I don’t think we can trace too many trends, just because there is such a small number of people on these forums in comparison with the total amount of applicants. Let’s hope for late April or earlier!

Sorry scahopeful my daughter was not a transfer student. Since freshmen year, she has lived off campus with members of her sorority. Her boyfriend was a transfer student. His first year he was put in campus housing with random roommates, but this year he was easily able to get campus housing with roommates that he chose. Seniors and juniors are at the bottom of the food chain as far as housing goes so they get what is left after sophomores get housing.
