Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

@Ianbernas - The mid term report is not required for USC. However, for some students, they will ask for a Spring Grade Request - Just because they ask for Spring grades does not mean you’re accepted though.

I don’t know when they will ask for the SGR though.

@esai oh oops I sent my mid term report I hope thats ok

Midterm report? I’m 97.76% sure that’s only for high schoolers.

@scahopeful no it’s for transfer students as well. In fact, USC was the only school I applied to that didn’t require a report.

Lanbernas

If you’re on a quarter system then you will probably get one (which I assume only certain schools would ask for it) but Im gonna take a guess and say that most four year institutions operate on a semester system so most people don’t have midterm reports. I don’t know about community colleges though.

Anyway good luck.

My brother is completely freaking out about his USC decision letter that’s supposed to come out this week. Starting to give me anxiety as well @-) .

@bono79

This is the transfer thread and is your brother a freshman, because transfer decisions don’t come out for a while.

@5nonnegatiables I believe his brother is a freshman, but @bono79 is transferring

Has anyone ever got accepted as a transfer with a W? If so, what was your reasoning? And should I explain a C or just the W? I have a 3.71 GPA but I have a W for a non transferable class and received a C in one class. :frowning: I know my GPA is fine and I have a lot of EC’s plus I work full-time. I’m so anxious!

Also, is one semester good for an"upward trend?" What I mean is, I did okay my first 3 semesters, with an average of B+/A. I did awful in High School but I plan on transferring as a Junior. I had a 2.5 GPA in High School. Anyway, I’ve definitely excelled this semester with 5 classes and all A’s and if I keep up the all A’s for next semester, do you think that would count as an upward trend? As I stated above, my GPA is a 3.71.

I am currently a freshmen in UMiami applying to Dorsife for fall 2014. My gpa for first semester is 3.58. It was pretty decent i guess (considering UM is a private 4year university). However, I think my gpa will drop about 0.3 at most since I am starting to take harder + new classes. My question is, do you think that will lower my chances of getting admitted if I receive an SGR? Thanks!

@kyrakyrayu919

I think it goes without saying, don’t let your grades slip if you have an SGR. Make whatever sacrifices you have to in order to at least keep your GPA the same.

On another note, do admission offices treat an identical GPA differently for private universities compared to CCs or do they put weight on the level/nature of the courses taken?

@bobo79 They take into consideration the level/nature of the courses, but the 4-year applicant is more likely to be accepted than the CC applicant if their GPAs are identical, just because CC courses tend to pale in comparison to those at a 4-year.

Side note, though, they do prioritize CC applicants because they have “nowhere to go,” whereas 4-year applicants are already in a place they can graduate from. I still think my above hypothesis is correct, but this is something to think about.

April is in a week. Hope you all are hanging in there.

No matter happens April-July, I wish the best to you all and let’s try to finish this semester strong! Remember: whatever happens–it’s for the best …and all that jazz.

-SCAHopeful

Its crazy to think that some of us might be classmates or walk by each other on campus if we get accepted

@hepburn I was actually looking through some official stats and what you say about prioritizing CC apps seems true as I remember a large portion of accepted transfers are from Cali CCs. (50% for 2013)

Is anyone here on the quarter system? Not sure if I have to send in my grades for the winter quarter or not. Kinda don’t want to as I have a feeling that I didn’t do all that well…

I just noticed I deleted ‘what’ from my sentence lol. @bobo79 have their been many OOS 4-year transfers in any of the others threads? From what I’ve seen it seems to be all CCCer’s. I hope it’s not the case that many 4-years don’t get accepted :(

@Spiffyb0i yeah you have to, I saw it on the USC admissions twitter feed that they want winter grades

I hope that means CCC students get notified first

@scahopeful Well, according to the official USC brochure, unfortunately, it seems that out of state transfers have slimmer chances compared to Cali CCs (23% of total admitted transfers). This 23% includes everything from out of state CC to 4yr private universities I presume. Although USC is a private institution too, they do seem to be more favorable to Cali kids in general, based on the stats. Regardless, I’m pretty sure we’ve done our best by now. Btw, did you appeal your rejection for first year admission?
