I’ve been able to log into OASIS since like a month back, I am applying as a transfer as well. I just used my id and birth date, however when you log in there is no useful information. It won’t display anything only thing I saw is that the financial aid was under review, but that’s as good as it gets.

@bomerr - Just curious - Is EFC (Estimated Financial Contribution) different from EPC? I don’t think so, but want to make sure.

I do not think college should have to pay all of my fees/tuition. And before you ask, no, I don’t think I should be able to attend a college just because I have been accepted into one. I’ve been accepted into quite a few colleges, and I haven’t attended them due to aid, so I do know that the college does not have to make sure I attend their college. I don’t know why many think I believe that…

The difference between a car dealer and a college is the fact that the car dealer will not offer any kind of aid to help pay for the car, whereas the college, based off of your need, will assist you.

A friend of mine in high school had an EFC of 0, and an annual income of less than $35,000. He went to Georgetown paying less than $5,000 per year. .If they had charged him more than $5,000 per year, he simply wouldn’t have been able to attend. Please explain how you think the college is not assisting him to afford a college education. This is the difference between a car dealer and a college.

I learnt something new about in-state schools in California though. I was not aware that CA taxpayers pay for OOS students’s grants. I would think the burden would be on the federal government and not on the CA taxpayers. I also was not aware that there is a rule set in stone that the state schools in CA will only match in-state tuition costs.

However, is this how it works for USC as well? They don’t look into in-state or OOS, since USC is private, right?

I was wondering the same thing (mostly my parents reminding me to make sure to try to find a place to live). Preferably with a roommate(s) so rent wouldn’t be too hazardous to our pockets.

I am open to finding a roommate(s) for off campus housing or apartments that are affiliated with USC. That also goes to anyone else that needs or willing to find a roommate. :]

@esai23

I know how you feel, a while back in this thread I was gained up on just by giving my 2 cents and asking questions but I just got bashed by people who didn’t understand what I was trying to really figure out (and didn’t see that I was really Not trying to start a debate).

BTW,
It may be my paranoia or a logical thought but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone on here was actually part of the admissions office or someone affiliated with USC at least gazing over the thread daily or even acting as a student or a normal member. Not to freak anyone out but it may be possible. Hehe ;]

Did anyone else wait until now to fill out the current tax form thing that was on the USC connect site? I feel like I waited way longer to fill it out then I should have but I didn’t have the tax info until recently.

Colleges grant aid for a lot of different reasons. For example someone has a 2300 SAT and is a black male. to meet the institution diversity requirement, a lot of universities would give that application grants/scholarships.

The example between a car dealership and a university is actually identical. Sometimes car dealerships will go down from the sticker price (msrp) to a number closer to the wholesale price because they have their own requirements (e.g. selling a certain number of cars per month) In either situation they don’t HAVE TO / aren’t obligated to help you.

The reason people in the other thread got upset at you is because you fail to realize that ANY money the college gives you is a gift and nothing more. you aren’t actually entitled to any of that.

Thanks I hope I get in I applied to Marshall. I’m sitting at a 3.75 GPA. I don’t think I will, because I have seen that most applicants have a 3.8 and above that applied to Marshall. Wish me luck guys. I know all of you guys will get in. You all have amazing stories and great grades to go alone with it. I hope I get lucky and given a chance to shine at SC.

Does anyone know if 1) Sending in a Midyear Report is mandatory/favored, and 2) If more preference is given to those transferring from CC’s as opposed to a UC, or if it is simply due to volume of applicants. Thank you!

@bomerr - Interestingly, he is a black male!

@WhiteTshirt - It’s okay that you don’t have a 3.8 GPA; a 3.75 GPA is excellent itself. As you yourself know, not everyone who gets accepted into USC has a 3.8 GPA or higher. You could be one of those guys this year! :)

@bballprofessor23 - A midterm report is not mandatory but I’m not sure if it is favored. They may ask you for spring grades though.

@WhiteTShirt A 3.75 is not that far from a 3.8. I’m also a Marshall applicant and I’m kind of worried as I currently have a 3.67 due to a mistake made by a professor who doesn’t even teach at my university. I am currently in the middle of a grade appeal. I uploaded a doc to USCConnect explaining the current situation. I seriously hope they give me a SGR instead of rejecting me outright.

On another note, does anyone know what you are suppose to do with an SGR? Do you just send in the final transcript for the year? I presume you send a final transcript with the second semester at the end of the year (May).

@bobo79 What mistake did he make? if he fixes it what would your GPA be? I think you have a great shot because you are at a University. They will be more lenient on you because a Uni is supposed to be harder than a CC.

The average GPA for USC transfer admits is 3.7 and the average GPA for Viterbi Engineering transfer admits is 3.59… That’s what last year orientation said.

@coolkid94@scahopeful I really, really, really hope I am the suspect. That would make me WAY cooler than my usual lame self… I fit the profile - I am a “parent (of whom??? Does anybody know???),” I often gaze at the USC forum and I try to act normal… It MUST be me.

@WhiteTShirt My professor factored in a grade that didn’t even exist which brought what would have been an A to a B+. When I saw my first semester final grades, I was kind of shocked as I thought I had aced Calc. Luckily through some investigative work, I found out that the professor was involved in grading misconduct. Although I was technically late for a grade appeal, I appealed for a late appeal (no pun intended) and luckily it was granted. I’m currently waiting on a decision (long process). I’m hoping they rule in favor of me as it would change my GPA from a 3.67 to a 3.82 which is the Marshall average. So as of now, I’m just prayin that USC sends me an SGR instead of a rejection. My younger brother was just rejected from Viterbi and he’s been pretty depressed (USC was his dream school). I probably will take it harder if rejected as this is my third try (I appealed my first yr rejection).

As for the 4-Yr University vs CC, I’m unsure how that will affect the process. For business students at my school, we have a required core curriculum meaning we must take the courses the university mandates. I can’t verify whether a 4 yr uni would be weighed differently. However, the official stats clearly show that CCs account for a huge portion of the admitted transfers.

@MentionTim Is the avg. GPA for Viterbi seriously lower than the overall rate of 3.7? From what I’ve gathered, Viterbi is one of the hardest schools in USC along with Marshall and Cinematic Arts.

@bobo79 How did you find out that the Marshall average is a 3.82. That’s really high, That means not much applicants below that were admitted. Do you think your appeal will be successful? How did you find out about the professors ill practices?

With that average, GPA for Marshall I will for sure be rejected. That is a mood killer.

Don’t sweat about your GPA. Based on previous posts, I just established that the avg. GPA for Marshall was about a 3.8. Your 3.75 is not far off from 3.8. Remember, the 3.8 is an average meaning that there are students accepted with GPAs lower than 3.8. As long as your GPA is above 3.6-3.7, I think you should be good as GPA goes. Are you a CC student or a 4 year uni student?

As for the appeal, I’m not sure how it will pan out. In my opinion, my case is pretty strong as I have all evidence in my favor (this includes grades, syllabus, and all emails between all parties involved). Additionally, I have been very cooperative with the investigation while the professor has literally not responded to any of my requests. She has also lied deliberately through email. Regardless of my thoughts, the math department has been pretty partial towards the professor. However, I think that the appeals committee should be impartial. Unfortunately, this committee meeting is entirely closed door so I will never find out what precisely happens. I’m still hopeful though.

@bobo79 that sucks bro it. I think it will pan out in your favor. The autonomy the professors have is crazy sometimes. I’m at a California CC. I think I had a great application when I submitted it. I also had the approval of others on my application, but who knows how admissions will feel about my app when they read it. I just have to be patient and hope for the best.
