@ody101 Short answer is to try to complete as many courses that satisfy the transfer categories as well as the additional requirements that pertain to the specific major you are intending to transfer to. ECs are ALWAYS good but focus on the most recent ones i.e. get involved with the CC you are planning to attend and the community you live in. You don’t need to take the SAT if you are going to apply with at least 30 transfer units since they won’t focus on your high school transcripts when transferring as a sophomore. Advice: Take at least full time units, build off your high school transcripts, get the best grades as possible on a CONSISTENT basis (3.8 or higher to feel comfortable), make some good relationships with professors at your CC so they can submit letters of recommendation if and when required, and learn to write really well in order to prepare for your short answers and writing supplement.

For me and a few others that I have applied and some been admitted, we would have complete a range of 50-60 USC transferable units, satisfied all GE categories, and have GPAs between 3.7 to 3.9. REMEMBER, as someone on here said, USC’s admission criteria is somewhere between “armchair psychology and tarot card readings” @RandomNewGuy

@Ody101 Hey, take ease in knowing that the 30 transferrable credits will need to be completed by the end of the spring semester. As for what you should do, yes, go with @HopeForMarshall’s advice, and do make sure you do an EC or a few to help make your app more well-rounded. But yes, dedicate this year to clearing up all the basic transferrable requirements. That’s what I’m doing as a sophomore transfer and will finish with exactly 30 transferrable credits by the end of this semester.

@epicer Over the last couple of weeks I received three different emails informing me to submit my winter grades. But I actually already graduated from my CC, so I had to call the admissions office to let them know this so they would stop emailing me and know that they have all my documents. Likewise, I wanted to know if this is a request everyone else got as well?

@jazz49 I’m on the quarter system myself but never received those emails actually. When did you receive emails about them? I sent mine last week, incase you were wondering. Never got any emails about to send them in though.

@jazz49 I didn’t get any emails, but on the portal it does say to submit my spring grades, but when I click on the link, it doesn’t allow me to add. nothing about winter grades though… no emails at all. that seems positive for you i would think.

I had two very important classes I was taking during the winter: Writ 140 and Acct 2. This no doubt showed up on the transcript as “in-progress” when I sent it in Feb. Furthermore, I had only 19 units completed by the end of Fall '13. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was an atypical response from USC. I’ve never heard of anyone getting a WINTER grade request before - my application is probably balancing on the lip of a trash can right now. Given this, I’d be pretty annoyed if I get rejected right after sending it, seeing as I had to pay for rush processing and mailing.

At the risk of jinxing it, I hope this means they don’t send me a SGR, because I think I’m about to get my first B in Calc…

@epicer Last year tons of people received WGR’s. I haven’t personally received one but I shouldn’t since I’m on the semester system. I can’t believe people are receiving emails already.

What does everyone have under the “Admissions Documents” tab for “Received Documents” and “Document Library”?

@epicer The reason they are asking people on the quarter system for winter grades is because you were supposed to send them automatically, it has nothing to do with your admissions decision. It’s equivalent to a semester system student not sending their fall grades, and then receiving an email requesting them. On a positive note, this means they are really going through the applications. Good luck all!

@Spiffyb0i I don’t think I’ve gotten anything from them, but that’s no reason to worry. You just have to wait, which sucks, but there isn’t another option. You’ll be fine! At this point the only correspondence you would be getting would be because you forgot to send them something, so no news is good news right now!

@fdominguez Yup. I saw on USConnect that they needed my transcript, which I had submitted already. I called and they said I should receive an email soon asking for my spring grades.

@sorakeybade Are you a sophomore or junior transfer? And what is your major and GPA? Sorry for the rapid questions, any news is so appealing right now.

Has anyone else gotten an SGR?
Heading up to USC right now to visit a friend, I hope I don’t get too attached!
