@LuckyNumberSe7en I did the exact same thing as you did! I called my area counselor at USC and she looked at my account and said everything was fine and it does not affect anything in any way, so don’t worry at all I guarantee you are fine. Just call your counselor on Monday or leave a message for them today and double check.
@wgmasjb123 Yeah I’m also pretty confused about that… Does anyone know if transfer applicants are required to take the placement test because if we’re taking chemistry and calculus courses right now, why would we still have to take a placement test if the classes are equivalent to USC’s classes?
@ForeverGymnast21 Any reply is better than none, I’ve sent an email because that never crossed my mind. Thanks!
@hoping4SC Thanks for the relief! I’ll make sure to call my counselor, but how do you find your counselor? I tried using the search engine that ties your school to a counselor but my CC isn’t listed.
@LuckyNumberSe7en It doesn’t go by CC it goes by your area, so wherever you live! Here is the link: http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/firstyear/prospective/counselorprofiles.html
All transfer applicants need to take placement tests for the majors listed above. This was confirmed to me when I called the orientation office, since am in the same situation. I specifically told her I am currently enrolled in general chemistry and precalc; my major only requires precalc and 1 year of gen chem at the minimum. She told me I still had to take the placement tests despite that my prereqs will be completed by fall.
still waiting… I’m going to lose it soon lol
Yes, this is true. UC San Diego told me this some time ago and j was disappointed that I had to take so much math and science, only to take a placement test. So make sure you do well on the placement test or you’ll find yourself at the school longer than expected!
I think they do it for the sake of making sure you are up to par with THEIR department.
^Seriously?
I already took a set of placement tests in CC… that doesn’t make ANY sense.
So what if you don’t pass these placement tests are you going to be put into pre-upper division courses or something? Lol…
That makes sense. Fortunately I got what I needed on my placement tests. Was slightly worried I’d do terrible and have to retake something. With tests, such as this placement test, I tend to overanalyze everything…
And for anybody that has to take them, I really didn’t think they were bad, especially if you’ve already taken chemistry and trig/algebra.
the placement tests for math and chem are online tests.

but I really dont know for sure… anyone else know about placement testing? I have taken calc 1-3 and I would hate to be busted back to precalc!
from what I gather
?
@samchoochiu I read your earlier posts. You have incredible stats and will likely get in. It might be the case that they take longer to admin 4-year university transfers because there is no articulation agreement.
Accepted!!! I wish you guys all waiting the best! Hopefully you guys all get in!!!
@lordfx if you have taken calc 3, you will be fine. When I took my placement, there was not an option to choose a math level. I got 38/40 and it placed me for calc 1. What I’m assuming is, I think the highest you can place is for calc 1, and the results are more of a guideline anyway. I hope that makes sense.
So I guess my question is, would they actually make you retake something based on a placement exam?
I can’t answer that for sure, but I would imagine it would depend on different variable. From my understanding, the results are more of a guideline to help your academic counselor place you in the appropriate class. To me it seems like more of a formality to require them. Like, in your case if you do well and they place you for calc 1, and you’ve competed calc 3, I really don’t think they will make you go back…
calc stats chem bio… I don’t think they would tack on an entire years worth of classes which I have already passed especially at the cost of attendance. I mean. they give you credit for completing the classes right? Yeah I think you are correct in that it is used as a guideline.
Exactly, as long as you pass the classes and they are on the articulation agreement, you will get credit. I know since classes, depending on the major, are required to be taken at usc, outsid otherwise, no matter how you do on the placement, you should get credit. If you’re at all concerned, just call a counselor.
Hey guys. Do you think it would be appropriate/welcomed if I sent in a photo supplement about my USC tour and some newspaper articles from my city about me to show my interest for USC?
@MichelleSafarian congrats on the acceptance!! Mind telling us your stats?
