@lowermerion If you received an SGR by mid-july, the sooner you send in your official spring transcripts the sooner you get your decision.
Is anyone else done with school? I have so much time on my hands now. If anyone has questions, feel free to PM me or ask in the thread!
How do you log in to oasis?
Try MM/DD/YY @stevenjp
fgl everyone
Hey everyone, how are you doing.
I’m planning to apply to USC this fall. My major is game design and here is some classes I’ve been taking.
- Currently taking English 96, will do 1a in summer and 1b in the fall
- Finished calc A and B ( got a B+ on calc A and A on calc B)
- Finished Diversity ( got A on History 9)
- Finished Foreign Language (got a 5 on AP Chinese and still taking Japanese)
- Besides that I'm taking other classes for other colleges. I took 6 first semester and 7 this semester. My gpa For first is 3.66 (4 A and 2 B)
For GE
- Currently studying History 4A (1)
- Completed Global cultures and traditions (got a A on the History 35A) (2)
- Finished 4AL Physics, but Physics 4a i might get a D (3)
- Finished Arts (Got a A on Tha 31) (5)
so the only thing that messed me up is the physics, but if i failed i wanna take it again.
Do you know how USC gonna look at this ?
For my extra curriculum:
- Got around 10 certificate for Coursera online course
- Work for Kumon
- Voltuner at YMCA and other events
- Started my own clothes line.
- Hopefully getting an internship at Ubisoft this summer.
Other:
- Im a Chinese born but was raised in New Zealand, so i count as an international.
- no trouble with finical aid
Ultimately, the only problem I’m worried is that D from physics.
@jasmine2468 As the username or password? And what about the other field?
For oasis you put your USC I.D as the username and for pin its MM/DD/YY and once you are logged in, they ask you to create a password @stevenjp
This was from last year’s thread. Do not know the accuracy of the source.
Spoke to a counselor earlier and confirmed my original hunches regarding the purpose of an SGR if one, 4.0, could still get rejected. The counselor said that they ask for them because they want to see how you performed in the spring (of course). And when asked specifically why they reject 4.0’s the counselor said that when they receive spring grades, they also:
a) verify that you completed any required pre req’s for your program that you listed on Common App (by checking for W’s)
b) check for any other W’s (because you can list something on Common App and withdraw much later after your app is already under review)
c) see if you completed any USC Core GE’s and the grades you received (goes back to the W situation)
d) make sure your courses aren’t cake walks (to do this, they have to search your current school’s course catalog and look at course descriptions and sometimes syllabi if available)
^ I remember seeing that post as well. I wonder if they did the fourth thing with me. I only took a stats course for my transferable math, so it made me wonder if my counselor would have perceived my math course as being to easy or overall thought my spring semester was too easy after they had sent me an SGR.
I didn’t get an SGR (junior transfer) and I’m terrified over it… Either USC likes me and I’m admitted, or they “REALLY” don’t want me. ;_;
I wouldn’t read too much into it guys. Just be positive.
I know what you mean. I’m mega nervous even though I went through this last year. I want to think they really like me since I’m trying again, but who knows? I’ll really worry if it’s May 29th and I haven’t gotten an SGR :-S
It sounds about right.
My friend called about his W situation, because he dropped a class in the middle of this past semester. The counselor was not happy about it and basically told him he would be rejected, even though the class was not apart of his degree program. I was right there when this was happening and she said to him, “When we ask for spring grades, it is because we are either not satisfied with the way you performed in previous semesters and just want reassurance or just want to see how you progress towards a degree and a W does not show us that you are making good progress”. Moral of the story, don’t drop any class! Take a C if you must! He dropped the course and thought they would not ask him for his spring grades because he was well above the 30 unit cap, but now it’s apparent that ANYONE can get an SGR for any reason. She also didn’t care that it was his first time receiving a W.
He’s going to submit his spring grades soon, even though he sort of knows his fate. Our semester just ended, so I will keep you guys updated on his situation.
Now you guys are making me scared about this too. I never got a W before but I listed 5 classes on my app and then dropped 2 because i didn’t need them and I wanted to focus on the three classes that I have now. The huge problem is the fact that for one of the classes I missed the deadline by 8 hours even if I didn’t go to class at all and the admissions office doesn’t want to take the W off. The other class I dropped on the same day but it had a late W deadline cause it had a later start date, but I got confused because of that day and I thought they were both later :(( I haven’t gotten an SGR or an acceptance yet, but now I am scared I will get one and this horrible mistake will ruin my future since I only applied to USC. Do you think they would understand or they would not care?
Do not tell them anything about your W’s until you get a SGR. If you happen to get one, don’t let your admissions counselor find out you have W’s AFTER you send them the transcripts. Send them an email or even talk to them over the phone about your situation and on top of that, write a letter of explanation that explains why you got the W and send it to the admissions office; give it to them in person if you can. What I am basically trying to say is do everything in your power to maintain the integrity of your application.
I never got why USC is so anal-retentive about one W, especially if you’re an overall good and consistent student. Sometimes a student just HAS to drop a class; no one is perfect, and I don’t see why USC is not understanding of that. Even the top UC’s will take people with W’s on their transcript (friend of mine had 6 and got into LA, Irvine and SD–all very good schools).
Anyway, take charge of your situation if necessary! You may be down, but you are not out!
i surprisingly got an SGR even though i received a W in fall 2014. (it’s not relevant to USC but im retaking it this spring)
@RAHforHEE it’s so sad because it was such a stupid mistake… Literally 8 hours late and they don’t want to do anything about it, and now it won’t only affect this application but also my grad school application thank you so much for your advice, I appreciate it! I really hope I don’t get an SGR…
I had two W’s and got accepted. Don’t automatically assume having one will cause a rejection.
Has anyone been given a Transfer Merit Scholarship or know when they will be releasing this information?
