Official USC 2015 Transfer Thread

I’m an Annenberg student and I got my packet in the mail today

@onmyway8 Congrats! I’m still waiting to hear back from Annenberg  hopefully it comes this week.

@anamazing Omg I’m still waiting I hope were both accepted!!!

I just got a SGR from viterbi yesterday and was wondering if you guys had any opinions on my odds. Applied for aerospace.

I attended CC here in socal almost 10 years ago and dropped out mid semester. 3 Fs, 3 Ws.

I restarted about a year ago, and will have 58 units completed by the end of spring. I went through academic renewal (even though USC doesn’t honor it) as well as repeating the failed classes. Current GPA is 3.9. For spring I have a borderline A/B in physics and calculus and a A in engineering.

history/ECs : Pilot, afghanistan veteran, high level federal government work, track and field, thousands of hours volunteering at habitat for humanity

Few people that read my essays said they were very good. I also have letters of recommendation from my adviser at dartmouth (former boss at US gov), as well as from my calculus professor.

@blahvetblah I don’t usually do chances on people because I don’t know and I can’t answer that for people, but I’m almost in the exact same boat as you (except my bad stint at college was 4 years ago, not 10). Thankfully, my courses from my first stint at college did not cross over to my new major much at all, so I was able to get really good grades in some tough classes that I think colleges like USC likes. For the past two years at CC, I’ve averaged a 4.0 and when averaged with my previous time at college I’m at a 3.65-3.7, though I have a LOT of W’s from 4 years ago, even in some throwaway courses. I just didn’t take college seriously back then and I was completely directionless in life which is something I talked about in my essays.

USC does favor an upward trend in grades, so I think us re-entry students have just as good of a shot as anyone to get admitted into USC (as long as the last two years have been competitive with other applicants). To me it sounds like you’ve got a really strong application and they’ve given you an SGR just to see that you’ve finished strong with those physics and calculus courses, but obviously I’m not an admissions counselor and I cannot really tell you what they’re thinking.

But hey, if you’re interested (since I sort of have a similar academic history as you), I can PM you if I get admitted or not. So far I haven’t received an SGR unless it comes in the mail next week.

Edit - I forgot to mention, I’m also a Viterbi applicant for CS.

@HappyLifeMachine That would be great if you could let me know if you get accepted. Good luck.

Have you checked your portal? That’s how I got my SGR, nothing in the mail yet.

Out of the applicants who get SRG’d around what percentage of them will ultimately get accepted? I know this is a super vague question lol. Basically, how good are an applicants chances of getting in after being SRG’d? I’m just kind of wondering what it means, are they just looking for consistency/ improvement or are they looking for your spring grades to be a 4.0?

@blahvetblah Yep, nothing on my YouSC about an SGR… So it seems like I’m either going to get flat out rejected or accepted, so I’m very nervous lol… and good luck to you too.

There are some people who get SGR later in May or on June 1st too. The only downside to that is that you will hear by Mid July

@jasmine2468 Yeah that’s pretty crazy… and totally possible because my spring quarter ends June 27.

@HappyLifeMachine It is brutal. I hope that you hear soon. I have already SIRed to UCLA. But I just want an answer from USC. If I am rejected, I want to move on and I can’t without a final answer

@onmyway8 Do you mind posting your stats?

@jasmine2468 Wow congrats on UCLA though! That’s a great school as well. Is USC your first choice?

Congrats! I wish I could have applied to UCLA but they require 60 credits which I didnt have

I haven’t seen much people most about Annenberg acceptances yet…
It’s really worrying me because I think I might get rejected

@HappyLifeMachine Both were my first choice as USC and UCLA are the top two film schools. I really want to go to USC because I want to get into producing. Fingers crossed. Lets see what happens. What is your major?

@stevenjp Yeah they require a lot of units. What is your major?

Hi Guys! I am an Annenberg transfer and I got a SGR on May 22 so for Annenberg people, expect them soon I am guessing!!!
@onmyway8 congrats!!! What were your stats!!? I’m so nervous… The wait is killing me

@jasmine2468 Computer Science. USC has been my #1 school since I started CC.

where are my Marshall applicants still waiting haha??

Is the Admissions Office closed tomorrow because of Memorial Day?
