Official USC 2015 Transfer Thread

@collegebeans Sure. I actually attended college the first time around at a university 4 years ago. I really messed up there, got a few W’s, and dropped out. I’m a junior applicant now, moved from the Midwest to California, and have taken 2 years of CC where I have a 4.0. Averaged out with my previous “stint” at college, I’m around a 3.7 GPA. No W’s at CC. Also I attend De Anza College which has a really high transfer rate.

Applying for CS. A+'s (97%+) in all my calculus courses. Missing my final CHEM course because of being waitlisted at my CC. Have two writing courses finished, all the GE’s besides 1 category, all A’s. I actually have more A+'s this year than I have A’s. No FL. I tutor students CS material (data structs/C++) 4-5 hr / week. My CS professor wrote a letter of recommendation (I’ve been tutoring her students). While I can’t read her letter of rec, I’m assuming it’s good. My essays weren’t rushed and I spent a lot of time on them.

@MakeMilDolMove Thanks, I really hope so.

@HappyLifeMachine Does coming from a CC with a high transfer rate affect decisions? Just curious since my CC has about a 10% transfer rate :open_mouth:

@treetreetree

Besides getting an entirely different experience, a different university provides people a whole different perspective on college. Apart from obvious reasons that include simply not enjoying where they originally chose, the point of transferring is so you can graduate with a degree from somewhere that you feel you’ve spent your time in the best way possible. I wouldn’t necessarily say a degree is a degree.

@anamazing No it has 0 effect at all. ALL CC’s are on a level playing field.

@treetreetree Yeah I understand that having UCSB UCSD UCI as my backup schools are great.

But my dream school is USC. Everybody has a reason.

@treetreetreee Ill play devils advocate on this one.

Your argument: “A degree is a degree. What’s the urgency to go to a different uni.”

If that was the case then why would anyone apply to USC? If a degree is a degree it wouldn’t matter what school to go to, furthermore if people had that belief, then quite frankly it be smarter to apply to a school with the highest acceptance rate & lowest tuition; all the elite/prestigious schools would have no applicants. lol

There can be plenty reasons why a person that is currently enrolled in a university would want to transfer. For instance

  • Location
  • Vibe
  • Networking
  • Better Opportunities
    The list is endless.

Anyways good luck, hope you get in!

@poisonx wow you portal says that? Here is what mine says. This was after they received my SGR.

You can track the status of your application here. Check back periodically to see any new information that is requested. Please be aware that all final admission decisions are sent via postal mail. If you are using the Safari browser on a Mac computer or iPhone and experiencing problems viewing a message, please try an alternate browser such as Chrome.

We have received your Common Application and USC Supplement, and it appears we require no additional information at this time. We will be reviewing applications through the month of May, and we expect to be able to meet our commitment to notify transfers by June 1st. Sometimes, in the course of our review of applications, we find that we need additional information. In such cases we will email a request. If you receive a request for more information, please respond promptly.

@YoGabbaGabby96 Did your portal change to what @poisonx has? Just curious cause I know you submitted around the same time as @poisonx

Good luck to all of you who are waiting! I’m feeling anxious from looking at this board, lol. I’ve received a SGR mid May and I’m just waiting for my spring sem to end (mid June) to send in my grades. I think all of you still have a chance because I have pretty sub-par stats and was still able to get a SGR (I’m a junior applicant too). Wishing ya’ll the best! :slight_smile:

@jucery13 I think at one point my portal showed the same message as yours. I don’t really know why mine is lengthier…just noticed that the text was longer today. I don’t really think it’s significant though. Just really random.

@poisonx did you sent an official transcript as well? Maybe they just received that one or something.

@mochibbycake What were your stats?

@mochibbycake I’m a junior applicant too but I didn’t get an SGR. Have you completed all of your prereq’s and GE’s?

@jucery13 yeah, good point maybe they got my official transcript and decided to add extra stuff lol.

@poisonx I hate how under received document, it doesn’t specify which transcript it is. I just have 3 transcripts that say the same thing “CSULB Transcript”. I know one was for fall, another one was added when I submitted unofficial transcript for spring, and the other was added by admission when I called to ask them if they got it, and they updated on the spot.

@jucery13 I know, it’s a good thing we will probably get closure within the next couple of days. X_X

@arya24 same here. :frowning:

@transfergirl0006 hey! Was your stars completely updated with all of your course credits and everything on oasis? Or was it just like your major and it gave an entrance date at USC and instructions on credits needed to get a degree on your stars before you got your acceptance?

Hello! I have a quick question… So i got an SGR and im kind of confused… so do we only need to send in our final grades for spring term? or do we have to include all the things listed below acceptable documents for submission? Gah it says to include a grade card including our professors signature and stuff but … ITS SUMMER and i think it’ll be hard for me to get in contact with them. Please let me know!

@arrowheadwater You are only required to provide one of the following. The easiest would be an unofficial transcript; most schools allow you to access a unofficial transcript online.

@arrowheadwater you’ll just need to send one type of acceptable documents showing your grade for spring
