@Mick96 I want to know this too. I just emailed orient@usc about this, specifically if the test would hurt my transferred coursework or if I wouldn’t be able to register for a course because of a bad score. Honestly I just need to know if I should study for this test or not. It sounds like the math test just tests you on pre-calculus stuff to see if you can start Math 125, and I’ve already taken a year’s worth of calculus so I just don’t understand why this is necessary at all. I’m sure the CHEM placement test is pretty low-level stuff as well…
Anyone else waiting for their spring grades to come out in order to send in their SGR? I feel like it might only be me on this thread, haha.
@Mick96 We’re supposed to take placement tests? What if we have already completed the classes?
@mochibbycake No you aren’t the only one. I am still waiting too!!
I am still waiting too. Quarter system
@mochibbycake @provence97
@Mustang012 I think we still might have to take them… Still waiting on this email but if you’ve started the online Pre-Orientation Checklist it has you take the placement exams (it states if you haven’t 10 days before orientation, you won’t be able to register for classes).
From my freshman usc friend who took the math placement: “A lot of simplifying equations, some basic word problems like area of a frame or something, there were a few sohcahtoa problems, a lot of log stuff. Not with ln but with the actual log. Remind yourself of synthetic division.”
Sounds like basic algebra/geo.
They basically told me if you already successfully completed a calc course at a credited college then you’ll be fine. We’re still required to take the placement exam just for the sake of taking the exam but they’ll “take the higher score of the two” (referring to your calc grade and the placement exam score). They just said don’t bomb on it though lol
@Shortstop3 Hey bro, has your stars report been updated yet? Or the transfer credit report?
@HappyLifeMachine I haven’t started on it yet since I just committed a few days ago. I don’t know why I would have to take it since I finished all my math courses ( calc 1-3, linear algebra, differential equations). I also noticed I would have to take the chemistry one as well. I took both chem 1 and chem 2 so again I don’t know why I couldn’t just get credit for it from my coursework?
@Mustang012 I’m on mobile right now but earlier I read a USC faq and it mentioned that USC also takes the placement exam data to see where incoming students are at. I’m guessing you will have full credit and the only reason they want it from someone like you is for the data. Also explains why USC doesn’t want us to “bomb it”
For anyone who has taken it, how far into calc does it go? I figure I might as well review topics. Do I need to go over integrals, infinite series etc? Or is it pre calc stuff?
@HappyLifeMachine ok. Either way, i just need to go back and review some stuff since i may be a little rusty on a few things.
Is anyone having trouble setting up their USC NetID? For some reason it won’t allow me to activate it.
Anyone know if they reserve spots in classes for entering/transfer students? My orientation isn’t until August, and most of the classes I want to take are already full.
How can we take the placement test online?? Is it on OASIS?
Hi. I just received my admission packet. I’m so excited! In order to make my decision, however, I need to see how much financial aid I was offered. When do they usually update the financial aid info status online when you’re accepted?
Are any other admits still waiting for housing assignments also? I’m still waiting, i turned in m housing app early June
Orientation just told me I don’t have to take the placement test now? I’m so so so confused!!
@thelakidd It took me about 3 1/2 weeks. You can try calling housing, but I imagine they’ll just tell you to wait a little longer.
How do you register for a myUSC ID once you’re admitted? This might be a stupid question but I can’t figure it out.
