Official USC Class of 2011 Decisions Thread

yeah i definitely give hope to all of you people who are worrying about getting accepted because i have such low SAT scores, it is actually embarassing! and i dont even consider myself international at all, its weird. Canada doesn’t feel international because it’s not like english is a second language or anything but maybe our SAT scores are treated differently because of our system…I don’t know…I won’t complain! I’m so thankfull I got in! and I do well in school anyways, I probably have the top average in grade 12.

Decision: Accepted

[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: Put it this way-I’m going to have a tough time paying for ‘SC if I go.
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM, 60 units of college credit, first generation (well, my 2 bros go to college and my mom went to school in another country)
[li] Why you think you were accepted/wait listed/denied: I have no idea[/li][/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I hope my example gives hope to applicants still waiting right now, and to those who decide to come to CC to gauge their chances for next year! It isn’t impossible you guys! Don’t give up hope! (like I almost did…) And don’t think this is a fluke because of my race or anything. I worked hard, have the grades (THEY ARE FROM COLLEGE, so 3.5 is pretty good considering it’s around the average for SC transfer admits), and I have the activities. The scores aren’t there, but USC looks past that if you have something else to offer.

Lord have mercy… my hope has been renewed. I hope they can look past my measly 2050 SAT.

OMG…

My hope has been blasted…

60 units of college credit?!!!

No wonder :frowning: I was getting excited for a minute

oh…i thought i mentioned that before…oops. yeah i’m 17 and i’m graduating with my A.A. in june. er…still keep that hope though! if i remember correctly you have better stats than me besides that anyways! don’t lose hope…

If you can get over the fact that the people who post here are generally 99+++ percentile and that they make up only a small percentage of the people that apply to USC, you’ll be doing better. Maybe this will cheer some of you up.

Status: ACCEPTED

STATS
Accepted to Annenberg School of Communication
SAT1 - 730 Reading 670 Math 710 Writing (2110 Composite)
SATII - Embarrassing. Math II and Biology M. (600 and 650 respectively)
ACT - 31
GPA - 4.00 UW
AP’s - AP US History (4), AP European History (3), AP US Govt. AP Biology AP Literature

SUBJECTIVE
Great Recommendations
Decent Essay

OTHER
Race - Half Asian, Half Caucasian
Location - Bandung, Indonesia (U.S. Citizen at International School)
Income Bracket - Very low. I hope USC gives me lots of money…
Gender - Male
Why you think you were accepted - I’m an American who went to an International school and have lots of great experiences that many other students can’t have had.

Don’t stress out over all this college stuff… Life’s too short  (unfortunately, I think that’s the only type of person who goes to this site… Me included)

i have 13 college credits… 3 of which are from USC

they won’t take more than 32 semester units anyway…the other 28 are pretty much useless except maybe it looks good

note to all!!

please notice that blanket statements about avg. gpa accepted/SAT accepted cannot be deduced with USC… according to this graph from my cc office at my school of the SAT/gpa and if they were accepted or not, the average GPA accepted at my school is around 3.5 uw cumulative, and average SAT is around 2010.

yet there are people with much lower SAT/gpa (lowest around 1750/3.3) who get accepted, and people with much higher (2240/3.7) who get rejected.

It’s not a two dimensional graph guys!

yeah, the other 28 are pretty much what i took for graduation requirements—like 5 units of PE and some other amount of units for music. but the 32 i’m going to choose includes general ed that I need like english, history, govt, math, and some physical/biological science. At least if I go to USC it’ll be as a sophomore, but if I get into UCLA i would be a junior…

Other thoughts: they offered me the NMS Finalist scholarship thing which is like… half tuition, and otherwise it’s still very expensive :</li>

what, may i ask, is a defective asian?

symphony, so if my dad went to college in korea, can i be considered as first generation? because if that is the case, i didn’t mark that i was first generation for all my colleges… it could have helped me… T.T

no you couldn’t be considered first generation college student. if he’s got a degree, you’re not the first one to go to college.

Hahaha good one… I think you’re confusing 1st generation college kid with 1st generation American!

As long as your dad went to college (doesn’t matter whether it’s in the US or not) USC will consider that you’re not the first to make it beyond 12th grade.

so how did symphony put 1st generation college???
cuz he wrote “first generation (well, my 2 bros go to college and my mom went to school in another country)”

i meant 1st generation college student… not 1st generation american…

i meant exactly what i said…my mom went to school in another country. WENT TO…she didn’t graduate.

i see… (sry i had to put so many dots in cuz it won’t let me post a reply if its too short)
