@starz4dayz wait what…by mail?
Yes, in the mail, dated March 6th but arrived today. It seems really strange like they are trying to sell the school, but it has my application number on it. I am trying to not let myself read too much into it.
@starz4dayz where do you live? I haven’t gotten that and am in Norcal…
Washington, it reads like one of the marketing letters you get early on in the process. Maybe just a fluke, no idea what to think…that’s why I posted to see if anyone else got one.
USC: decisions will be sent by March 24, decisions will be available March 27 noon at Pacific Time
Where’d you see this? @binatang
@chocolateswag on the admissions website
Oh wow thank you!
Omg I thought it’d be online on the 29th… yeessss 27th!!!
@chocolateswag no problem! when i posted the date in some other threads other people also questioned me… i can’t understand why. But hope it helps everyone! I’m excited to find out!
@DL43516 I gotcha. I think that could be the case in some situations. For me, I have a pretty low SAT score (1850 - 690CR, 630W, 530M). If it weren’t for math, I’d say I’d have a much better chance, seeing as how I have a good reading and decent writing score. I put tens and tens of hours into the essays and my portfolio (SCA - Critical Studies) I think, not to be prideful, is outstanding. I worked with a professor who earned her PhD in critical studies from SCA and she said that she thought they would be impressed and that I have a shot (her friends there are also on the admissions committee). I hope my subpar SAT score doesn’t get in the way of my acceptance.
Sorry for the rambling post…just trying to convince myself I have a chance haha! Just over a week until we find out!
Are the packets being mailed via priority mail?
If so do you think most likely they’ll come before the 27th (when decisions are posted online)?
For reference, I’m from NY
How long do you think it’d take to come?
I’m thinking that I will be able to view the decision online before the packet arrives in the mail. If they mail them on the 24, it will take two to three days to arrive here.
I’ve read that the packets are beautiful.
@binatang In another page of postings someone will ask, “When do the decisions come out?” Followed by, “How do you know?”
I am an admitted student for computer science and I was wondering if anyone has an idea of if I would fit in or not.
My reservations
-I am a moderet a little on the conservative side
- I don’t smoke weed
- the campus is a little spread out and I am worried about the walking distance
- I am worried about finding a close group of friends
- majorly afraid of the gronnola crunchy rep it has
My pros
- I love surfing and its right down the way from steamers
- its outrageously beautiful
- I like the openmindedness
- every one seems happy
- like the laied back atmosphere
Any input would help !!!
Packets are amazing. They go out early and are on planes quickly. If they go out the 24th as the admissions sites states, Norca/West coast will be the following day 25th. Many close to major cities/postal distribution points like NY/Chicago get them the 26th. Everyone should have them by 27th (unless in small towns with slow mail).
Here is a list of school notifications dates for the curious.
@HopefullSurfer I literally grew up in LA, and practically on the USC campus as my dad is an alum and we always go to football games. That being said, I think you’d fit in just fine. Your pros seem to vibe well with the typical LA lifestyle, and although there are a lot of stereotypes, LA really isn’t that liberal. Yea, a lot of people smoke weed, but that’s a California thing not an LA thing. The campus is beautiful and no one else has any problem walking it, lol. As for the close group of friends, as long as you’re doing the things you love you’ll come across like-minded people. And in college, it’s not that weird to talk to people you don’t know. Keep an open mind and when you find someone you click with, you’ll know.
@HopefullSurfer not sure where you got the liberal vibe, but I would say USC is more balanced - you will find people of like mind, no matter what your preference. Most of the alums I know in their 40’s-60’s are some of the most conservative people I know!! Maybe they changed over the years as many of us do, but I never thought of it as a liberal place.
As for the weed, that happens at virtually every campus, I feel like USC has more of a drinking vibe than a stoner vibe, but as prior poster said, the weed thing is more a CA thing than specific to SC.
For a campus with 18,000 undergrads and over 20,000 grads, I actually think it’s pretty compact, esp considering the sports facilities integrated into main campus. Besides, you’ll need at least some exercise to fight off the freshman 15!!
Not buying the granola vibe you speak of, esp in Comp Sci or Engineering where you will be spending your time. There are plenty of great arts programs where this set resides, but there are probably more career driven business and engineering folks wearing suits every day.
Hope this helps…
@Crossinator my son applied to Thornton. What major are you?
