@imkuizxx ,I was rejected earlier this week and I’m considering appealing as well. What was the basis of your appeal if you don’t mind sharing?
@bbop14 do you know why you were rejected? If not, set up an appointment with an advisor from us, asked them why you were rejected. Address all issues in your appeal. Tell them why you are an excellent candidate for uw. I was rejected because of my weak gpa from the first year of college, so I explained I had some physical issues last year, and my academic performance in this year was great, so I said it proved that the gpa from last year should not be a predictor for my future success. Get a letter of recommendation from a class that’s related to your major. Write you appeal ASAP.
*Set up an appointment with an advisor from uw
@imkuizxx Thank you!! I have an appointment scheduled for next week to go over why I was rejected. Also, Im switching majors with my transfer so Im having my boss write a letter for me (switching to an education major and she’s my supervisor for an elementary school position), would having a professor for an unrelated class be better? Congrats on getting in btw!
@bbop14 i think it is great for your boss to write your letter of recommendation. Do you have any guess why you were rejected? So you can start to write your rough draft. Meanwhile, did you apply to education major directly? You may want to reach some advisors at education department and have them write you a letter of support.

[] College GPA: 4.31/4.0 on application. Currently 4.05/4.0. A+s removed => 3.88
[li] High School GPA: 2.8 (ow)[/li][] Units completed: 16 semester units
[] Units in progress: 16 semester (in progress when applied)
[] IB Diploma completed - 21 credits, per the IB policy

Other Things:
[list]
[] Other schools applied to: University of Michigan (rejected), Carnegie Mellon University (withdrew), University of Southern California (accepted, will attend)
[] I was definitely more EC focused on my other applications, and Udub comparatively deemphasises that for transfer evaluations.
[li] I think given the very somewhat odd nature of my stats I am more inclined to say that it was unsurprising I got rejected. Every application I sent was pretty much a “Hail Mary”. Given the fact that I was already accepted by my top choice however, I will NOT be appealing my decision. [/li]
Go Dawgs though, cheering on you all for the Apple Cup. But if it’s a USC vs Washington game? Fight on!
How long does it take between the unofficial transcript loading to the application status updating or getting an email? I’m hesitant to tell anyone until I get that official confirmation but I’m excited! Thanks in advance!
@E5dn10 It took mine about a day so you should be seeing it sometime today. Congratulations!
Has anyone who got accepted recently gotten any emails about their financial aid?
Hey guys can anyone tell me what are my chances getting into UW?
I’m just gonna give you my stats from my current university.
I am a sophomore this upcoming fall attending a 4 year out of state university (University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley) in pre-nursing. I’m looking into transferring into UW pre-nursing knowing that I’m not able to transfer directly into the program because I’m missing a few prereq classes, so I’ll work on those while also getting clinical experiences outside before applying to the next cycle. I have 52 semester credits at the moment and I currently have a 3.9 cumulative gpa and finishing this upcoming semester, assuming I get all As again I would finish around a 3.93 cumulative gpa. I have a couple of questions regarding if I ever transfer to UW. During high school I had a 2.8 gpa so I know that there will be a huge positive academic trend there. UW also doesn’t require an SAT/ACT score since July 11 so I won’t submit those.
- Knowing that I have over 52 semester credits worth, a 3.9 gpa at the moment in college, what are my chances of getting accepted to UW with those stats? I know there is an application to fill out and the personal statement but I want to know the stats regarding number wise.
- My parents also have been working in Seattle for a year now, therefore they count as residents, but when I apply will I be counted as in-state student or out of state student?
- Is it worth transferring to UW as a pre-nursing major? I will end up finishing all my prerequisites for the nursing school in the university I am currently attending so that I can apply by the end of the semester before the winter quarter starts but I am widening my options just in case I don’t get to the nursing school here.
Hey @AstroSolaris , apologies if this reply is super brief but you definitely have the gpa to get into uw! That’s the good news, but you have to consider your reason for wanting to switch over to UW for a program that is sounds like your current school already has. That’s the kind of question the admissions office will ask themselves, so I think in your case as an out of state transfer from a 4-year, your essay is almost more important than your grades.
So here’s what I know regarding your three questions…
- You have great GPA but I believe they prioritize those closer to 90 transfer credits.
- I’m not sure about residency, that would be something to email admissions about.
- And whether it’s worth it is completely up to you. I’d talk with an academic advisor at UW about your options to see how “worth it” it is given your current credits, goals, financial situation, etc.
I hope this answers some of your questions, but again I encourage you to reach out to a regular academic advisor at UW and they’ll have more solid answers than me for all of your questions. Good luck!
Hi @AstroSolaris ! Good news: GPA is great! Very UW-worthy.
Uphill battles: UW notoriously prioritizes Washington community college transfers and accepts very few OOS and 4-year university transfers. The ones who get in typically have compelling reasons why they HAVE to attend UW instead of their current University (typically their university doesn’t offer their major). You’ll have to go further out of your way to convince them to accept you, but don’t let that discourage you! It is TOTALLY possible with a good personal statement that specifically addresses why coming to UW is better for your goals than staying where you are, so just keep that in mind when you’re writing it.
Regardless of your parents, you will be considered an OOS transfer student unless you move here a year prior to your start date at UW. Establishing residency is also notoriously difficult, and OOS tuition is very expensive. Even though your parents are Seattle residents, you would still have to reside in Washington for 12 consecutive months and change all your documentation to WA to even be considered for residency. After 12 months, you can apply for residency, so there’s no way coming from OOS that you’d get all 4 years covered in-state. At least your first year will be OOS and everything after that is a gamble. If you’re willing to jump through all the residency hoops, I think you’d have a good shot of being accepted!
