His classmate was waitlisted - SAT 2390, ACT 36, Full IB, NMF - but, the student doesn’t have much in the way of EC’s

But why would that student EVER be WL here?

I was waitlisted probably because of my financial need.
I wish I had known WashU was not need-blind before I had applied because I probably wouldn’t have applied there because of that.

WUSTL’s waitlist must consist of thousands of people! No one in my school got rejected either.

Our school had five rejects and one acceptance, who was rich and a legacy.

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT I: 2220
[] SAT IIs: Math IIC 800 Chem 780 Bio 760
[] ACT: n/a
[] GPA: 4.3ish UW/W (I don’t really know how the UW/W system works)
[] Rank: was 6/157 since I last checked. was told that it has gone up due to a large increase in junior/senior year. My counselor and I wrote different ranks because the school gives out different ranks to a person at the same time for an unknown reason.
[] Other stats: I kinda emphasized on my ECs related to basketball. But I was the founder of all the basketball clubs/teams related to women’s basketball. I created the women’s team, the women’s intramural club plus lots of other basketball related activity. I am also proficient in 4 languages if you count japanese (I suck at it). I play 2 instruments, piano (duh) and clarinet. Used to be in the concert band/marching band in singapore. Attained 8th grade ABRSM certificate for piano. President of a few clubs at my school. English Editor-in-chief for school magazine ASNP (anti-school newspaper). My basketball team won various competitions in the shanghai area (yea i go to intl sch in shanghai). I absolutely LOVE playing card games (apparent from my nick). International competition for schools – English – High Distinction (top 1% [?] in Singapore). Received a prestigious scholarship from my school for every year that i’ve been there. Scholarship from the Shanghai Educational Board for outstanding performance in school. Big Heart Award for ourstanding community service. Volunteer at blah, blah and blah organizations. I don’t think I mentioned my love for card games but I don’t remember half of the things that I wrote on my application and half of the honors/awards/extraordinary experiences/talents that I mentioned in the WashU application.

[] Essays: truthfully speaking i thought they were bad because it looked really average to me. My friend looked at it and said it was pretty good and i guess I was pretty low on self-confidence. Haven’t looked at them since clicking “submit” on 1/15
[] Teacher Recs: pretty good except for one where this teacher commented on how I multitask in his classes i.e. don’t pay attention in class. The other teacher went on and on about how I was so good at bridging economics concepts but my intended major is biology.
[li] Counselor Rec: he had bad english but he wrote the stuff that I wanted him to write about, both good and bad.
[/li]

[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses:Maybethe multitask rec but other than that I don’t think my app had any major flaw.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied:I thought that I had a OK chance at WashU coz I had OK stats and OK ECs. Didnt think further than that.
[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Good luck people, wherever you go to college

4 people applied at my school. 2 accepted 2 rejected. so far the word “waitlist” is foreign to me…

Four people applied at my school. There may have been another one or two, but I don’t think so. Four were accepted.

3 applied at my school.

ughh waitlisted :/

[] Essays: I wrote about Atlas Shrugged… how it changed my outlook in high school and made me more interested in ECs and stuff… in hindsight, the essay was probably a bit too risky.

[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: No clue, I barely knew anything about Wash U, and I didn’t have to learn anything since the supplement was tiny.[/li][/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I’ll say this, it’s nice to get in SOMEWHERE… I got rejected from Duke (second choice) and all my ivies, including my first choice (Penn). Looks like I’ll be at Wash U or Michigan Honors next year. Gonna have to visit both.

^^hah, same here, rejected from duke and yale. go to washu!

3 people from my pretty small high school applied to WashU including myself, we all got in. I’m guessing the hook for us was probably our location. We’re all American students living overseas, and I’m guessing that adds to the diversity everyone says WashU is looking for.

I got accepted to Wash U, Northwestern and Stanford, where would u guys choose to go?

All three are amazing schools. It just depends on which would be the best fit for you. Best of luck!

thanks, good luck to you too. now the decision is hard, hmmmm

misskeptical what is your prospective major?

The decision would come down to Stanford or WashU for me. But I would ultimately choose by the cost and the feel, because both are amazing schools and I thought either would be a great fit for me. Congrats on your acceptance!
