what! three 2400s waitlisted???!!!

^Scores aren’t everything. Plus, Wash U predicted correctly in my case–I would not have accepted an offer of admission.
Who cares about 2400s though? The accepted students have some really sweet accomplishments.

hm, true, but i would’ve thought that at least one of the three would have gotten in–considering that they also had good accomplishments, such as Intel Semifinalist, etc

how exactly would they predict that an applicant would not accept the offer of admission though, since they don’t have a “why wustl” essay or anything. I mean, I never visited the school or came to any of the wustl visits to our city and even my own highschool, nor did i make any indication in my application that I would most likely go to washu, but i got in. And there were a lot of high scorers on sat/act who got in. very strange…

admissions is a crapshoot and wash u is known to waitlist top students.

How do you if know you were a top student being WL or a average student who were fortunately not rejected?

^You don’t.

Did anyone who didn’t receive an Olin email last week get accepted?

Hollllly mother of God, I’m in. I can’t believe this.

Waitlisted- and prettty content since I thought I was definitely up for rejection/ have not really received very positive letters thus far from other schools.
GPA: 4.89 UW, 3.94 W
SAT: 2050 combined (I know… it’s not the best…)
ACT: BANGIN’ English section (35), but overall composite of 30 (damned science…)
ECs: VP of a South Asian culture club that is co-organizing our school’s second huge charity show for South Asia, co-creator/co-host/co-producer of a tv-talk-show-parody on local cable access network, NHS, former volunteer at old folks’ home and local art center, science camp (ironic, no?) @ UPenn, human rights club, organized a seminar on good nutrition…
Essay: well it was common app… I kind of wrote it like a timeline, and I guess it was alright. The people I got to have read it liked it more than I ended up liking it…
Recs: my teachers who wrote them for me fell into one or more of these categories: a) knew me really well b) I knew them really well c) I talked to them a lot outside of the classroom… very easy to talk to teachers. But I didn’t read the recommendations.

I really thought my SAT would land me in the rejection pile. So I know waitlisting isn’t the best thing, but it is a start.

waitlistedddd hmm not unexpected…kinda weird to see so many other people well qualified waitlisted

Decision: WAITLISTED!!!

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT I: 2140
[] SAT IIs: 720 Chemistry, 780 Math Level 2
[] ACT: 31 (32 superscore)
[] GPA: 3.65 UW 4.18 W
[] Rank: 62/672
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I thought they absolutely sucked.
[] Teacher Recs: Both teachers really liked me because I’m thoughtful, but I didn’t speak up a lot in my english class. He told me he said that when I did comment, it was always really insightful. I suppose that’s good.
[] Counselor Rec: She started my junior year, and I was really close to my previous counselor. I played vball w/ his daughter. New counselor isn’t exactly helpful.
[] Hook (if any): I spent my summer in Tibet trekking and learning about Buddhism. I can’t wait to go back.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: IL
[] School Type: Public (I don’t know if it’s considered “competitive”)
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[] Gender: Female
[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: My midyear grades sucked really bad. I almost forgot, I have practically NO ECs. I’m not president of anything, I’m not a member of anything, I quit the volleyball team sophomore year. I’m not anywhere close to ya’ll when it comes to ECs. I volunteer but that’s about it. lol
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Quite frankly, I was expecting to be flat out rejected. I am ecstatic because I was waitlisted. It’s sooooooooo much better than being rejected. lol. I’m a glass half full person. I think my interview helped a lot. I got a chance to explain why I really really wanted to go there, and I got to explain parts of my application, like total lack of ECs. I can relate things so much better in person. [/li][/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I’M SO FREAKING STOKED RIGHT NOW!!! OMG!!! YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!! I WASN’T REJECTED!!! I was practicly hyperventilating before I clicked that decision button. I read the first line, screamed “YES YES YES!!!” and proceeded to dance around my room like a psycho. WashU is by FAR my first choice, so I’m so stoked that I wasn’t rejected!!!

I got waitlisted – all I can say is what a waste of my money and time. I’ve gotten accepted by 1st tier schools. I only applied to WashU for the Univ Scholars in Med b/c that’s the thing they’re good in, but I got rejected from that too. If they truly accepted ppl by their creditials, I would be in – not being cocky, here… it’s just what has happened. All parts of my application were really strong and my interviewer said that I was her best interviewee.

So, my advice to people would be that, **if you can get into 1st tier schools (Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford) and you aren’t an URM (under-represented minority) don’t even bother applying to WashU. **They purposefully reject 1st tier students b/c they know that they most likely won’t end up enrolling at WashU and so, to keep up their college ranking, they reject people. The more you reject, the higher your college ranking on US News and World Report. Smart, but cheap trick.

Well, anyways, congrats to all of you who were accepted, and good luck to all others. To waitlisted ppl that don’t understand why they were, this theory most likely applies.

So nice to see people so excited Congrats cowtipper, good luck with the waitlist.

Redleaf: a bit arrogant, don’t you think? I agree, for the most part, but hey…Wash U looks for a different kind of student. They’re entitled to do that and they have really built a great, unique student body with their standards.

Lord, all those nasty rumors about WUSTL and waitlisting are proving to be true!

I edited my post so much. lol

I just called my bestist friend in the whole wide world, we screamed in excitement together!!! OMG!!! I’m like a little kid who just got the greatest toy EVER on Christmas!!!

Thanks MallomarCookie!!! AHHHH!!! YAYAYAYAYA!!! lol… I’m totally insane

Waitlisted… I knew it was a longshot and I was expecting rejection, but I’m still very bummed. I’ll post my stats later. Congrats to those of you who go in!!!

Lol cowtipper, I’d say you’re more like the kid who went to Best Buy, bought an expensive laptop with a rebate certificate, and is eagerly awaiting the rebate money in the mail.
