Official Yale 2011 Scea Thread

Woah, I’m really late… I’ve been reading all of your posts but seem to have neglected to post myself. =) Anyway, I’m from louisiana, and I actually want to go into business… but I think if I get into Yale I’ll have to rethink that. Also, good luck to all of you, you sound like amazing people. And I’m glad it’s been established that their acceptance doesn’t say anything about how we are as students or people. =)

liaesque, why would you have to rethink going into business if you were to go to yale?

And why would you apply early to Yale if you want to go into business? No offense intended. Just wondering.

Yale doesn’t have business as a major, and even though there is the Make a Major option, I don’t know how comfortable I am with that yet.

When I visited Yale, the students were amazing, the campus was amazing. The people I talked to were all so happy even though they were stressed. It was all worth it to them. Everyone wanted to be there. Moreover, I’ve heard that students change their major many times, so while I may like business now, I might like something more later. However, Yale’s mantra is about teaching students not just about their subjects, but how to learn… and I think that could be applied to whatever I wanted to go into.

So #18 I hope that answers your question, although I think doing a double major in economics and international studies would work too.

And theoneo, don’t worry, you definitely didn’t offend me =) heh.

And, after reading what I wrote… I have other reasons for wanting to go to Yale, I just can’t seem to write about it very well, but it is in my Why Yale essay, heh =)

Do you guys think that the Common App site will be clogged and congested as the deadline approaches because many people cram in during the last minute?

I just submitted! I’m mailing all of the other parts (school report, transcripts, teacer recs, music supplement) tomorrow, and then… I wait!

I’m glad we’ve got this thread going so we can all support each other and cross our fingers for each other when the time comes.

Umm I want to go hardcore into Business and International Studies and I’m still applying early to Yale. Doesn’t every Ivy League including Yale have a realy solid Economics program/major/courses?? Besides, I love how Yale lets me double major in Economics and IR.;)

Is the Yale admissions office open on Saturday? Like, if I call to check on parts of my app?

OK so I’m just making sure I’ve submitted everything, beucase I always feel like i’m missing something… probably just paranoid, so here’s a checklist of things I’ve sent which may be useful to u all. Feel free to add on anything I’ve missed!

Common application!!
Yale Supplement
SAT reasoning test
3 SAT subect tests
2 teacher recs
School report form
counsler rec
My own supplementry materials

also, is the CSS profile necessary if i’m not applying for financial aid? do they require it from everyone?

hey all

stupid question but…do you use this address:

Office of Undergraduate Admissions
P.O. Box 208234
New Haven, CT 06520-8234

or this:

Yale University
Office of Undergraduate Admissions
38 Hillhouse Avenue
New Haven, CT 06511

the P.O. Box address for normal U.S. Postal Service mail, the secondary one for UPS, DHL, etc.

for the online app, should we put our AP test scores in the Academic Honors section of the common app, in the Additional Testing section of the Yale supplement, or both?

im doing it in just the additional testing portion

additional testing, it specifically mentions AP scores there. but AP awards go on the academic honors section

i’m almost done. i finished the common app but i’m still working on my long essay for the yale supplement.
question: I’m making an arts supplement. can i mail that in later? or is it due nov 1?

I think basically anything you want them to review should be in by november 1

I agree with everything being due Nov. 1.

And I’m including AP scores in Additional Testing as well.

Do we need to send Yale official AP score reports from Collegeboard in addition to the self-report?

^Obviously not since they are used more to award credit to a student once he/she gets accepted and enrolls in the university.

My question is can we choose to only report some of our AP scores if we have too many to list and we want to put in scores from other contests like AMC/AIME?

Why? Is there a character limit for additional testing?
