Official Yale 2011 Scea Thread

That’s right, littlelis.

So I am a little worried about not being contacted by my interviewer yet. I turned in my app on 10/19. Is my worry justified?

Where do you live? You don’t have to answer that, of course, I’m just thinking that perhaps there is no alumni association where you live. Even so, I wouldn’t worry too much. There’s about 6 weeks left till decisions come out so I myself am not going to worry until 3 more weeks go by with no contact.

sirius, i’m not gay–just jewish african american. don’t hate me? :P

not joking, either.

Yea, I turned mine in on 10/23 and I definitely don’t live in a remote area. I haven’t been contact either, so Sohni, i think we’re in the same boat right now :-)

Your alumni could be procrastinators or they’re busy right now.

I haven’t even gotten my ELI account yet. Does one only get this when his/her app is labeled COMPLETE?

I’m guessing they’re still dealing with the influx of apps received right on the November 1st deadline and that if you submitted around that time it’ll be a little while longer.

will i be screwed if i forgot to send in my parents taxes and css and applied EA?

You should send those forms in ASAP but you might not get financial aid since it’s now the week after the deadline. Admissions won’t be affected but financial aid will. None of us here are experts, though, so ask the Yale admissions/fin. aid office for the accurate answer

I got a really prompt response, it will not affect my application but I need to get it out ASAP.

I submitted everything via USPS last Monday and even included a return receipt. Should I be worried that I have heard absolutely nothing as of right now?

I doubt it junior…the website says that you won’t get a reply until mid Nov. As for the return receipt…um.

“I heard a figure quoted from a yale admissions officer (one degree separated, rather) that the percent of the class that is ‘unhooked’ --no athletics, race, legacy, or development–is 5% or less.”

That’s crap and I’m leaving this thread till Dec. 15. Nice talking to you guys, have fun propagating stress through lies and rumors.

aww, come on; you must know by now that CC is chock-full of these statements, just choose what you wish to ignore… blocking out an entire thread isn’t necessary! :-)

Umm I know plenty of kids who’ve gotten into HYP unhooked. So unless if my school is the #1 unhooked-student-sender to top schools, that 5% thing isn’t true.

I was given the contact info for the alum interviewer in my area. Should I by chance contact her if I don’t hear from her in a little bit? I’m nervous my interview won’t be in on time for them to consider it and I was kinda hoping it would just add something good.

hey everyone,

poor me, there’s no alum interviewer in my area! the letter i got with my ELI account says so. i know this won’t put me at a bad disadvantage (since i’ve already had a current student interview), but any thoughts good/bad about this?

a while ago we were talking about weaknesses…i’m a little worried that my EC’s are TOO directed. they’re all music, writing, service, or some variant thereof. no math, science, etc. oh, and NO WORK EXPERIENCE. i’m going to die.

did any of you take the creative route with the “Why Yale?” essay? my fifty words were objective, but not your blanket “i love the directed studies program” type statement. instead, i wrote about how, when i walked onto the yale campus, i felt like i had exploded, and saw bits and pieces of myself flying into Old Campus and the shelves of the beinecke. i’m a bit worried that they won’t take that the right way.

thirty-nine days!

theo–I said it was by one degree of separation, so I can’t confirm exactly. Someone (an adult, a teacher) who had a long-standing relationship with a yale admissions officer reported aforesaid officer as having said that. Just reporting what I hear. On the scale of yale’s entire applicant pool, I’d say it’s still quite plausible.
