Official Yale 2011 Scea Thread

I got my Eli account info today! And I just got back from my interview. It was awesome. He began by asking what I do and stuff and we ended up talking about environmental issues for like 45 minutes. The whole thing was an hour and a half.

Ahhh that’s awesome. I hope my interview goes that well…it’s tomorrow at starbucks and I’m kind of nervous

Ahhh that’s awesome. I hope my interview goes that well…it’s tomorrow at starbucks and I’m kind of nervous

awesome, theoneo!
and good luck, koena :-)

haha, i just got back home from mt interview. I think it went fairly well.

I’m really nervous about my interview… and I have to go to the guy’s house to do it! He said I needed to be prepared to answer questions like, “Why do you deserve to go to Yale?” eek!

Calm down everyone. I went on my interview. I, usually, am a really quiet person. But the interview wasn’t that bad, the guy seemed to like me, I was talkative enough, and I didn’t make any glaring errors. All you need to do is calm down. At the end, he even said “I don’t think they really listen to what I have to say.” So in the end, it’s not even that important. Just good luck, but you won’t need it. Afterwards, you’ll wonder why you ever worried about it in the beginning.
In other news, I got my Eli Account information yesterday.
SOOOOO EXCITING     :)

whats an eli account?

Your Eli account is where you find out your decision online from Yale. You should be getting it in the mail pretty soon if you haven’t already.

Just got done with my interview! It started off a bit slow, but we had a lot of the same interests and it turned into a sweet conversation, almost like one I would have with a friend. It went well, I think :)

My guy had the ASC newsletter in front of him to read off some scary statistics at first and then later to relate something I was talking about to something Yale students are doing right now on campus. Anyway, at the bottom of one of the pages it had a column entitled “What is a Likely Letter?”. Boo.

Hello. I submitted a paper application and according to the USPS tracking system my application arrived on November 1st (I sent it 2 days before). However, it has been 10 days and I have yet to receive any confirmation whatsoever from Yale. Did anyone else here apply using paper forms and, if yes, have you received confirmation/been offered an interview yet?

yes and yes…

but don’t worry, I’m sure they are so covered in paper they can’t stand it… in a couple days call and make sure…

for the eli account thing… how do you sign in??
(I just got mine, and i was excited…)

Or do they not have anything online yet and such?

Yale ‘prefers’ online digital things in the sense that they end up scanning everything in anyways, so the paper could very reasonably just be in scanning backlog hell.

you sign in to your eli account by going to www.yale.edu/admit/onlinedecisions

From there it’s pretty self explanatory.

It’s not even November 15th yet, I can’t wait until December 15th!

It would be interesting to know the acceptance rate of cc posters who were accepted. It is hard to tell. One thread last year for SCEA decisions listed it a 48%. But that number was misleading. It was not I believe 48% of those who had been posting for a while, but 48% of those who posted their results of whether they got accepted, rejected or deferred. That would be an inaccurate figure as many who were deferred or rejected might have decided not to post. CC posters are some of the brightest and motivated in the country, especially on the ivy league forums. It would be interesting to note if the acceptance rate for cc posters were higher than those published by the school

Homesliceturkey - you should be fine. Submitting the paper application is fine. It will be noted by Yale that you made the deadline, and your tracking number indicates it was received. However, they do not open all the applciations that day. They probably have piles of applications to go through. They probably have only gotten to your recently. I am sure you will receive the confirmation soon.
For any future applications if you send them in by mail, you should allow two weeks before the deadline so that it gets filed and sorted earlier.

My interview is in an hour and I had a dream last night that I got a rejection letter in the mail. This is so nerve-wracking!

Good luck elsewhen.
Like I told everyone else, just calm down.
And as for the dream, I think we’ve all had hundreds of similar dreams. :frowning: But dreams don’t necessarily predict the future. Just a dream that is your OWN feelings, not Yale’s. Good luck on the interview, just remember not to shake despite your nervousness. I’m sure you’ll be quite alright.
