Official Yale 2011 Scea Thread

Just got the call, I’m getting my likely letter this upcoming week. I’m SO EXCITED! GO BULLDOGS!

Omg, likely letter people…Pardon me while I go shoot myself in envy and despair

that was hcdevil’s first post…

i think he was biffing…just trying to make everyone agitated.

does yale even do likely letters for EA?

biffing? i don’t know what that means haha. and I’m not joking, i found out on Friday. But I am an athlete, so it helps…

Nope, not falling for it. Any arrangements for athletes would have been made weeks ago.

Why would anyone lie about that just to make a bunch of losers on an internet forum feel bad? Seems rather pointless and paranoid to assume that it’s a bluff. That said, athletes make me bitter

2 posts, joined in November. So convincing!

What is a likely letter???

Okay, I have a better understanding of what likely letters are now. But this scares me. Do only athletes get them, or are they for everybody? If so, how do they decide which people get the likely letters? Do EA people get likely letters? And when do they send the letters? (All these questions are meant specifically for Yale’s Likely Letters)

Only athletes

Thank god, that would have added a whole new level of stress to the waiting.

Don’t worry about it. Whether you know about them or not, behind-the-scenes, under-the-table decisions/standards exist. No point getting worked up just because you found out about things that were already there. Does that make sense?

(nvm)

I agree with b4nnd20.

“Nope, not falling for it. Any arrangements for athletes would have been made weeks ago.”

Not really true. While coaches and athletes tend to come to agreements far in advance of the EA deadline, likely letters cannot be sent out until the application, SAT scores, teacher recs, and school profile are all in and have been looked at by an admissions official.

I say this having gone through this myself as a track recruit.

“Omphaloskepsis” is indeed a cool word, but were you ever able to use it in normal conversation?

This is correct. Likely letters have been going out for weeks to athletes, but only get sent once all paperwork is received and reviewed. Athletes that didn’t mail in their paperwork until a couple of weeks ago are just getting reviewed now.

And don’t shoot yourself. This pathway is only for specific, recruited athletes. Separate pool, separate process.

32 days 21 hours 18 minutes… haha

subrosianspyder,

actually, yes. i wouldn’t say that it’s in my daily vernacular, and i don’t drop it into random conversation just to sound smart, but i do have a friend who contemplates her navel while sunbathing, which brought the word in perfectly.

as for vernacular-izing a word, everyone should bring back “poosk.” it means “to search one’s head for vermin (i.e. lice).” 'tis wonderful. :)

Doesn’t she know that all navel concerns should be directed immediately to me?;)

Err. I’m sure it would be more used more often… if it was needed. Do you have to poosk often?
